This post is in response to the many rants on the forum about the nikah scene... and self mutilation...

Of course, each of us have a different perspective...this is simply mine...and I realise I might be the only one enjoying the show as it is...

From wiki...

Self-flagellation

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Self-flagelation is ritually performed in the Philippines during Holy Week (onGood Friday, before Easter).

The Flagellation refers in a Christian context to the Flagellation of Christ, an episode in the Passion of Christ prior to Jesus' crucifixion. The practice of mortification of the fleshfor religious purposes was utilized by some Christians throughout most of Christian history, especially in Catholic monasteries and convents.

Some members of strict monastic orders, and some members of the Catholic lay organization Opus Dei, practice mild self-flagellation using an instrument called a "discipline", a cattail whip usually made of knotted cords, which is flung over the shoulders repeatedly during private prayer.[1] Pope John Paul II took the discipline regularly.[2]

St. Therese of Lisieux, a Carmelite nun of late 19th-century France who has now been declared a Doctor of the Church, is an influential example of a Catholic Saint who questioned prevailing attitudes toward physical penance. Her view was that loving acceptance of the many sufferings of daily life was pleasing to God, and fostered loving relationships with other people, more than taking upon oneself extraneous sufferings through instruments of penance. However as a Carmelite nun, she practiced voluntary corporal mortification.

Because practices such as starvation, sleep denial and flagellation are known to induce altered states, flagellation may be used by religious ecstatics and mystics as part of ritualistic practices or ceremonies to achieve unusual states of mind.[citation needed]

Islam[edit]

Shia Muslims in Pakistan flagellate themselves during the Moharramprocession.

Though it is uncommon, some Shi'ite communities flog themselves on the back with chains and sharp objects such as knives. Some of these practices include zanjeer zani (self-flogging) and tatbir. This happens in many countries around the world including India, Pakistan, Iraq, Lebanon and Australia. In Iran use of knives and sharp blades for flagellation is uncommon but chains are used. These practices happen in most Shia countries of the world, in Saudi Arabia it is strictly forbidden in every form.

...

Sahir: is an artist, first and foremost...a most temperamental one..and I find many artists to be that...they let out their frustrations in the form of violence in their particular art form- music, painting, writing etc. ...or...Writing in blood, certain forms of tattoong...they do things that don't make sense to 'normal' people...they also come out with the most amazing creations...I have always felt that artists cannot be measured by the 'normal' human standards...their pain and suffering is unfathomable...and they churn out gems in their endurance...

Sahir punishing himself...how different is it from starving yourself...Is that also not a form of self mutilation?

Arzoo: Is more level headed...But that walk through the embers, with the accompanying flashbacks...it was about the birth of a new Arzoo...and that bed of fire was the platform on which she was born again...she was not punishing herself...just immortalising the moment where the old Arzoo died...more than self mutilation..it was showing dissent..a certain stubbornness...to which Sahir responded well within his character... He has known greater pain...and is familiar with this kind of dissociative act...he lives her pain with her...but is equally stubborn.. he knows this punishment is for him...that this pain and anger is directed towards him...he can only stand and watch...and remain frozen knowing what lies in store for him.

Right now, he has won her as a trophy...and so long as their 'togetherness' is not threatened...he is just relieved that she cannot be taken away from him...

...

Using such acts as a pretext for entertainment... by this PH...

Qubool Hai has an Aahil who throws up when he sees a man practising self flagellation...such acts of violence are especially painful for him to watch, because he was whipped as a child...Sahir is clearly made out of a different mould...

I don't find it entertaining or detestable...to be frank, I feel more repulsive about people who have multiple ear piercings..and other body part piercings...

...it is just the way we are conditioned...

I don't know if the PH can be blamed for portraying such acts when it fits into the story...

Some people are prejudiced about Islamic women wearing miniskirts. To such people, such acts of self mutilation may not make any difference...Likewise, people who have no qualms about miniskirts find these acts abhorrable... Can hardly expect the PH to make a show balancing everyone's demands...

...So I simply feel each person has the freedom to express .. we can express our feelings thru the forum...and the makers express their story they want to write...after all, it is their story...we don't have to tell an artist what colors he should paint on his canvas to make it a masterpiece...what looks like nonsense to one, might look like a classic to another...tolerance... is a virtue, indeed...

This post is not written to target anyone's beliefs or preferences...I apologise if it hurts anyone in anyway...just wrote this because I feel extremely sad that the maker's vision has not reached the audience..writing and direction may not be picture perfect...but on the whole, the story is gripping...and I hope I am not the only one to feel so...

...

"People where you live," the little prince said, "grow five thousand roses in one garden... yet they don't find what they're looking for...

They don't find it," I answered.

And yet what they're looking for could be found in a single rose, or a little water..."

Of course," I answered.

And the little prince added, "But eyes are blind. You have to look with the heart."

So glad you could connect with the show this way...I had watched the episode mute (TV malfunction...) and just caught up with the daily motion video...(after I made this post)...except for one dialogue by Alvira- where she tells Nausheen to keep quiet...😕😆...

...I must say it was like the beginning of a new show..the stuff promos are made of...how she captured their 'togtherness' so far...and embarks on this new journey with him...born a new Arzoo...I was delighted with her dialogues on nayi arzoo..and purani arzoo having died as per her promise...the whole concept came through to me even without the dialogues...👍🏼..kudos to the makers...
...and looking forward to...

...A NEW BEGINNING...😊

@chicksoup. Totally agree with you. Good research. There are similar practices even in parts of rural India among hindus as well .
I occasionally login to forum but I mentioned it another post that creative expression of the makers should be respected and as such I am finding the show intriguing and gripping for the dark portrayals. A lot of great master artists are tormented souls who express through their art that connect and I agree the reasons for at the expense of their private pain and penance. It all depned s on our conditioning how much we accept or reject and how and what we judge.

As humans we constantly make deals with ourselves, each other and god and in various forms and what is portrayed is some extreme of that .

Am enjoying the show as is and wishing the very best that the creators get to tell us their fantasy story their way without a lot of changes driven by external opinios . some are fine but influencing every shot will eventually get in the way of storytelling.

Yes occasionally the story telling could vary based on pleasing a vocal audience but hopefully not much.
All the characters have been detailed well in their motivations and they just need the freedom to share it with us.

Now this is something new...liked your POV about the scenario.I guess this is their baby and we are no one to endorse our opinion on the creatives. They must have thought something like you have explained, though I didn't like it,my mother was too much involved in the scene who normally doesn't watch the show,so I'd say you aren't alone.I just want TRP audience to connect with this now.
