We really laud the social message conveyed in the episode aired on New Year's Eve...there were a lot of helpful takeaways from that..
Remain alert.
Make use of phone apps and at the first sign of trouble make sure you alert a trusted one of your location.
Don't get scared and cower down...fight back and keep fighting till help arrives.
Most importantly it was conveyed that when such incidents happen it is not the fault of the girl but the thinking of such men who consider women as objects of pleasure. There is a need to therefore educate boys and men on how to respect women and keeping girls locked up or restricting their attire is no solution...
đđ To this.
However after this the portrayal of the state of the victim and the reaction of the family went a bit awry and lacked the same sensitivity. No offense meant but some of what we saw was not relatable given the situation!
When such an incident occurs the girl is totally traumatised and tends to be terrified of the male touch atleast immediately. And the family members close ranks around her..to keep her safe..to,protect her..to ensure that nightmares don't shake her awake.
Yet yesterday we saw Arzoo being left alone by Nausheen and then Zara too. Zara was asked to go and sleep by Zaki but why wasn't Nausheen around? How could she leave her traumatised daughter alone ...why wasn't she by her bedside? That was hard to understand.
After this Zaki clambers onto the bed...he may be a friend to Arzoo but in that situation that was so unwarranted..he could have sat nearby..in fact there was no need for him to stay at all..Zara could have slept beside Arzoo on that bed holding her hands which is what she was doing anyway.
Zaki holding Arzoos hands in her sleep..woke her up...she wanted to shake off his touch and she screamed for help..and no one heard..no one came running...that was unbelievable..and Arzoo getting comforted by Zaki and going back to sleep was too...it would be more believable for her to have called for her family members in that scared state...not accept Zakis comfort so easily...after what she went through.
After this Sahir made his entry into the room and leaned so close and said what he wanted to...and no one realised that either..Zaki was sleeping soundly..again no one cared that another man was so close to a girl who should have been dead scared in this situation..
These instances of Zaki and Sahir entering Arzoos room and later Nausheen happily saying Zaki sitting on Arzoos bedside the whole night was why she could soundly sleep are going against the grain of normal reactions in this situation...they dilute the message that is sought to be conveyed by this track..
In order for it to be truly effective this discrepancy should have been taken care of as well...so that the portrayal could be more realistic and sensitive.
And last but not the least we all know that this is the story of SaAz..Zaki Arzoo is not happening.
So it's inexplicable that such a scene was shown with Zaki and Arzoo at such a sensitive point in the story...was there a need for it at all? What purpose did it really serve other than show insensitivity to the victims plight?
