First thing's first we all know Sahir Chaudhry has a tormenting past. One that has shattered him to the core and has caused him to torture his very existence. He refutes the idea of love and is stead fast in the belief that love can bring happiness. Most human beings term love to be a sentiment relevant with the inner core of the being and here Sahir is a harbinger of both, love and agony which have mutilated his consciousness.
The most logical conclusion to this morbid past would be that he may have fallen in love with a girl who misjudged the depth of his love for her and treated him in a vile manner. It could have been a number of reasons, his money, his social status, his charm or his basic and rustic nature that could have allured the woman to claim him and then discard him. The woman in question here could be the cerulean blue damsel at JahanAra's dress auction who had wished to outbid him. It was quite evident that she had wanted to own the dress and capture victory but caved in to his stubborn resolution of winning.
Having said that I feel that there is another avenue that is yet to be explored. The relationship between Sahir and Alveera. On the outset it seems calm and composed and Sahir shares a deep bond with her. Almost like a healing ointment to a wound. Yet there are signs of a boundary Sahir has set with her. We do not see him talking or opening up to her on impulse like a son would to his mother. There is no flow of mutual recognition just a dammed or rather bottled, well placed set of emotions Sahir seems to dish out to her. Some would say that is the case with everyone in Sahir's life and I would agree, Sahir is a man of few words and that has been vehemently portrayed time and again. All this has caused me to believe that Alveera is not Sahir's birth mother. She is of course Shiraz and Zaki's mother but not Sahir's. Her exact words "Tumhaein apney kaleje ka tukda dey rahi hun" on Eid day made me wonder as to why she would term only Zaki as that. Of course it could also be because he is the youngest and she may be worried about him settling in life more than Sahir who has proved his mettle in the business world. The fact that Alveera cannot openly express her wishes for Sahir to return to normalcy (not eat burnt toast everyday) is another clue. Mother's never cower to their children they make themselves heard, Alveera is shown feeling unhappy for Sahir yet being unable to do anything about it.
Also Kurti Apa's words "Hum sab jaante hain aap kiya kerna chahti hain per hum honey nahin deingey" point to the fact that she is aware of some fact/secret regarding Sahir and Alveera which has given her the authority to speak in such tones to her employer. The fact that Kurti aapa doesn't give two shakes of a tail to Alveera's status as malkin in the house make me wonder if there is someone else apart from Sahir who she considers worthy of the status of an employer in the house. Could it be that Sahir's birth mother deserted him or died? Where is Sahir's father? I have not heard anything about him. Could it be Sahir's mother or father who is ill in regards to the doctor's call which made him lose it altogether. Last but not least babajee's words at the dargah. "Jitna dard tujhme hai us sey zyada dard terey humsafar main hai". What do they point at? An unhappy childhood or a betrayed love.
Thoughts anyone!
