Indira's question made Ricky realize the mistake he had made, but the damage was done and he didn't have any answer, so he looked away but realizing indira's growing temper and the person Ricky was, he replied " before pointing at me, would you mind answering my question that why you didn't know that you were marrying me? And if uday, was supposed to be your groom from where did I fit this scenario?" asked Ricky diverting her mind to the question which lay in front of them

"I……I don't know, only thing I know was that I was engaged to uday and was supposed to marry him, I really don't know how this happened and in fact till the last moment I was unaware of the fact even when vidit bhaiya…. (she stopped saying further and a thought hit her hard, did vidit bhaiya purposely did it? was he behind it? for this was the reason he forced her or in fact blackmailed her into this marriage, she was totally confused)

"then you mean that you were fooled into this marriage" said Ricky thinking: just like me, and I know it would be Sam's doing for he was the one who had been pushing me indirectly into this relationship, now I understand why he wanted me to marry this girl"

Indira wanted to say yes but then she didn't for though she was fooled but then this was what she had always wished in her heart, "I can't say anything" she replied instead and continued "but then what about you, why didn't you know about this alliance"

Ricky went blank on this question, by no means he wanted to admit the real reason of marrying which was his jealousy which he had felt when he had known that she was marrying "I don't want to answer your question indira, it's personal, but believe me I didn't know that my would be bride was you, otherwise…..he stopped "otherwise I would have not suffered the way I did" he thought in his mind

"Personal" indira felt she was stabbed for she didn't believe the Ricky she had trusted as his best friend and wanted to trust him with all her heart and throughout her life had something personal

"What do you mean by personal and what did you say if you had known? Then what? Asked indira haughtily but with full authority just like a typical wife

Ricky didn't answer but turned away instead

Turning away will not answer my question said indira, with anger fuming now " tell me who the girl was, because as far as I know you had no body till college whom you claimed you loved, was she in U.S." asked indira but inside she was cursing the girl who had stolen Ricky's, her Ricky's heart

"I'm not answerable to you indira and for god's sake don't ask me anything, I don't want to answer, and I told you she was my past" replied Ricky cursing himself for lying, his heart was thumping badly urging him to tell the truth, tell her that she is the one whom he loved, but then the thought that indira didn't know about the marriage and that she was expecting uday, didn't let him accept his feelings

"Why not? Why you don't won't to answer, yourself you can blame me to any extent and when tables turned you want to run away" said indira haughtily and her voice raising

"Oh really! Then what do you expect from a man who on his first night of marriage learns that his wife was expecting some other man as her groom" came back an equally haughty and befitting reply

"And what about the bride who learns that her husband loves some other girl and for him the marriage is a kind of compromise" said indira almost screaming and shivering in anger, but before Ricky could reply back there was a knock on the door

Ricky quickly opens the door and noticed a middle aged man. With a stern face and in a second Ricky's gut feeling told him this man had heard something he shouldn't had

"Hello sir! I'm the manager of this hotel and it's our custom to welcome all newlywed couples with this bouquet and best wishes when they arrive, but we got it late as we didn't realize when you had checked in. sorry for the disturbance at this time sir, said the man and then an awkward silence prevailed for a minute and then breaking it the man in an awkward tone asked "is everything fine sir, I hope no problem"

Ricky felt like punching this man, but then controlling his nerves he said "no actually everything is not well actually my wife is didn't like this arrangement of yours said Ricky sarcastically and it took me lot of effort to convince her"

The man was embarrassed by this reply " sorry for this inconvenience sir, but sir just a personal piece of advice, when wife gets angry just flatter her, and she will do exactly what you want, and gave an understanding smile as he wished them goodnight

Ricky closed the door and turned towards indira who had overheard what Ricky had said and then before Ricky could settle down she burst on him

"How dare you Ricky, used me as an excuse to cover up this situation"

"Then what do you expect I would have told him. The truth?" asked Ricky

"so you are blaming me, it was you who started this, first by telling about your love and then not telling me more about her, and on top that using me as a haughty female ruing over arrangements when it comes to answering people!" replied indira controlling the rush of tears she knew she couldn't shed "and if this is the scenario right now Mr. Ricky diwan what would happen when it comes to confronting the whole society"

"What society? What do you mean by saying this" said Ricky confused over this sudden change of expressions, from that of being angry to terribly hurt

"now don't act innocent as if you don't understand anything, it's so convenient for you to blame me for everything, you always have done it and I know you will do it again, but this time I won't let you ruin me Ricky Diwan, and mind it "said indira bewildered that how Ricky can affect her to such an extent that she can still fear his rejection and heart break all over again

Ricky on the other hand was totally bewildered with this " what do you mean indira when did I ruin you, in fact it was you who had………but he stopped saying further, cooling his nerves and then in a whisker he grabbed indira by waist and pinned her to wall " I don't understand a word what you have said and one more thing whatever I said now, you hot heeded woman, was just to diffuse the situation as I didn't want tomorrows gossip news columns to be filled with the stories of our fight and……………. He stopped saying further as he looked into those dark black eyes and both of them blushed with the memory of what had happened some minutes back between them and indira shuddered in his arms, bringing them into present and Ricky quickly controlling his feelings and breaking the eye lock said "you go and change indira and take some rest, we will discuss rest things tomorrow"

Indira too nods her head in agreement and takes her clothes and goes to change

As indira leaves, Ricky is again immersed in deep thoughts, words of indira are still ringing in his ears, I wish indira instead of uday it was me, but that's ok that time I honored your decision even though I came at the cost of our friendship and my self-respect and this time too your wish will be honored, just waiting to know your decision

Indira locks the door of the washroom and rests leaning on the door still feeling the emotions that Ricky's touch had induced in her, she blushed at some naughty imaginations, but then turned grave thinking about the fact that Ricky's love was somebody else " this time I won't let you go Ricky, no matter whom you loved in the past, I will still give our relationship a chance, but if you still love that girl then like a true friend I will bring that girl back to you, even though it pains me, but if not as you have said then definitely I'm not letting you go this time, destiny has given me a chance and I won't lose it" said indira wiping her tears that unknowingly had started rolling down her cheek , she quickly changes her dress and comes out to the room where she sees Ricky sleeping on the cot and the bed lay vacant for her, she was happy seeing this gesture of his but at the same time disappointed, she takes the blanket and puts it over Ricky and goes to the bed but while she turned to switch off the lights she realized that Ricky was not asleep as he was tossing right and left due to discomfort

"Ricky!" indira called out in a low voice

Ricky got up started "what happened, is everything fine?" he asked

Indira: you……..you can sleep on bed

Ricky: it's ok indira, I'm not that bad to make you sleep on cot, I'm ok here you sleep on bed

Indira: you didn't get me Ricky; I'm not saying that I'll sleep on cot, I'm asking you to sleep on bed ………. With me (she added hesitatingly)

Ricky stared at her dumb struck

"No need to look at me like that, it's just that I know that I can trust you, so you can sleep here" said indira

Ricky stared at indira open mouthed, for he couldn't believe that the girl who once accused him can say so

"why are you staring at me like this, I've just asked you to sleep, now don't waste time, I'm too sleepy I'm going to bed now, when you are done with your staring you can come here, good night" said indira "and yes when you come, plz switch off the lights" she said finally going off to sleep

Ricky without saying a word gets up with off the lights and sleeps next to indira

Well sleep was something both were pretending, but it was something far away for them tonight, both of them were lost in their own thoughts, incidents of past, developments of present and probabilities of future all rooming in their heads and along with that that butterflies running in their stomachs as their beloved was so close to them and yet so out of reach. Both of them were waiting for the dawn to break, but for different reasons, and what the next morning had to bring for them, was still unknown to these loving hearts
