Being from the US & spending a considerable amount of time in Europe, I understand the bitter memories & pain associated with the concept of adolf Hitler & nazism. Therefore, I get why the western world has such a adverse opinion towards his connotation as some flippantly used adjective, but these are my complaints with the editing done:

- the most annoying part is the huge beep they use to blot out "Hitler"
- if youre going trough this editing, than atleast keep things uniform, maybe from the new shootings, you can use a different word so that my ears don't have to hear this stupid beeping ...plus a part of me wants the same experience as fellow viewers around the world
- its so silly that you'd change the banner but all these commercials & such which say they provided funding for HD use its original title which just counteracts all the effort put in towards appeasing the sentiments of others.

How are the other viewers in America feeling?

in spite of being born and raised in america, i dont agree with them changing the title...not to undermine what happened, but it seriously doesnt make sense because they still call her hitler in the show...and i find no reason to find offense if you actually sit and interpret the nature of the title rather than taking it as face value...i think i like some others have the advantage of understanding both sides in terms of the cultural connotations of the word

the show is in no way glorifying hitler...come on, her strict and akdu nature is clearly shown in a negative way...the sympathetic and humane feeling comes from the word "didi" in the title...shows that despite her having a sort of ruthless behavior towards everyone around her, she still is very human through the sweet title of didi...i seriously wish i could personally go to the ADL and explain this to them...i dont think the title could be justified in any better way

but i agree its so lame to bleep out hitler...they should just get rid of the "oh hitler didi" part of the song by silencing it

this is also my main question too. no one would undermine the events that happened, granted there are some crazy people out there that believe the Holocaust didnt happen, ... but not everyone in the world follows the same politically correct rules that the ADL wanted to see changed. if this hurts so many people, than why are comedians, collloquial/jargonic use of the terms "stalin," "fascist," "kim jong il (the north korean leader)," "communist," "devil," & whatever else not opposed, too? Under such harsh dictatorships, many were hurt, killed, traumatized.
Alas, its truly because we are diverse group of viewers that we can acknowledge these concerns and counter-questions. in the end, what was achieved? only one country having the title changed? A bleep whenever the word is used? How many people have they possibly been able to share their viewpoint with & convince that "hilter" shouldnt have been used? They can't change the frequently changing cultural lingo/connotations.

They should have conducted a poll and asked how many people wanted the name to be changed and why...I guess the half hearted beeping isn't going to be of any use...

I totally agree with you!
I think the name is the identifier. It makes people curious to watch. It in no way supports Hitler. The name is just a loose nick name in India. I don't know what was the big deal changing the name to "general didi". That name sounds stupid. I'm totally against this name change.

Here's what I wrote at an earlier article on the subject. That had a mention of Germans not liking the Swastika being used in India, hence the first paragraph. I do agree that now they have gone through with the name change, instead of beeping out the word, they should replace it with General.

Hitler was a terrible person, there is no doubt about that. But sometimes I feel the western obsession with Hitler is a bit unhealthy. The swastika story in the article is a good example. The Swastika was a symbol of auspiciousness in India long before civilization started in Europe. Just because one bad guy from somewhere appropriated a version of it for his nefarious purposes, we shouldn't use it anymore? Well neo-nazi groups have used various manifestations of the cross as their symbol of hate for ages (KKK had a white cross which symbolized the blood Christ shed for the white people!), so lets see churches all over Europe take down their crosses then. Overdone political correctness is just silly.

About the name of the show, Hitler usually has a different connotation in India than the west. Here it means overly strict (which was one speciality of his regime), there it means racist. Perhaps it was because they suffered through the atrocities of his concentration camps, while we only got to know of him through war reports. But there have been horrible incidents and terrible dictators throughout the history of mankind. Why single out Hitler? When I tell people my family live in Kolkata, they blithely say ''Ah, the Black Hole of Calcutta'' (which comes from a completely wrong reinterpretation of history) as if they are paying me a compliment. If people living in the west can have a wrong understanding of Indian history, its fine to do the same with western history. Hitler is NOT so important that the mere mention of his name will destroy the world !

I have no problem with the name change. I just think General Didi is a dumb name. 😆
I understand why ppl would have a problem with the name. Hitler's regime is part of recent history and as such ppl still would have bitter memories of what he did etc. I think everybody has a different take on the situation. But come on Zee MUST have known that this name would have caused problems. They just wanted publicity and they got it. 😆 Besides Hitler is 1st and foremost Adolf's surname so even though ppl in India have made their own meaning to the word it is associated with him and since Rati is the protagonist, seeing her addressed as Hitler all the time can indirectly be seen as a way of glorifying him. This girl is called Hitler and is a hero in the show? To some that could be a little strange. Don't u think?
Would u all like it is they called her Osama Didi because she fought against superpowers' influence in her village or smn?
Hitler's actions affected a lot of ppl so we should respect the view of ppl who don't like the name. Just because ppl in India don't have a problem with the name, that doesn't mean that we should forget that other ppl internationally do and they watch Zee as well. We should respect their feelings and applaud Zee for addressing this issue and taking some action before the matter got worse.
I hate that censored sound though couldn't they just edit it so that it would mute on Hitler or smn?

One thing with your swastika example...The swastika was ours first then Hitler used it.
But in this case Hitler is his name first and then Indians took it. So it is not the same situation.

The name was only changed in the US so i don't see what is with the opposition to the name change. It offended ppl in the West and thus Zee did the responsible thing and addressed the issue. It is still Hitler Didi in India so for me it looks like a win win situation.

It is indeed annoying the way they are bleeping out the word Hitler in every conversation/ dialogue!
Changing the title to General Didi was quite enuf...why do they have to bleep out the word Hitler from all dialogs?😔
Its not that ADL is watching every episode of HD in USA to catch that word and say: Ahaaa...caught u using that name again! 😆
