Leading as always is Strand Book Store, that quiet little book corner off P. M. Road, perhaps the only one that offers unbeatable discounts on its books. At Strand the book will be sold at a mere Rs. 674. "The official price is Rs. 899, but we are selling it at a discount. All you need to do is pay the amount and collect a requisition slip that you bring to the store on July 16. And the book is yours," said a salesman from the store. Bookings began almost a month ago and till now, they have received over 500 orders. There are another three weeks to go and they expect the numbers to increase.

Librarians recommend books for 'Harry Potter' fans
The American Library Association, through its Association for Library Service to Children division, released a recommended reading list today for Harry Potter fans waiting impatiently for the July 16 release of the sixth JK Rowling novel in the series.
The list was created by children's librarians using the following criteria: "books that have similar story elements and replicate accessibility, tone and flavor; and books that are similar in theme but may be more complex."
Included in the first is Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events and Eoin Colfer's Artemis Fowl series. More "complex" novels included Michael Ende's The Neverending Story, C.S. Lewis' The Chronicles of Narnia, Madaleine L'Engle's A Wrinkle In Time and Christopher Paolini's Eragon.

(PDM staff with CTK) 23 June - Speculation that the fifth Harry Potter film would shoot in the Czech Republic took a hit this week as Mlada fronta Dnes reported that the parents of Daniel Radcliffe, who plays the young wizard, reportedly fear the young actor could succumb to Prague's wild nightlife, the daily (MfD) reported Tuesday.
Citing British sources, MfD reports that Warner Bros indicated some time ago that it would consider transferring the shooting of 'Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix' from Britain to Prague for more advantageous conditions.
Daniel's parents reportedly disagree with the move as they do not want their son, who will turn 15 in July, to be away from home for such a long time in the city which, in their opinion, is ill-famed for "wild nightlife and expanding sexual services," MfD writes.
Consequently, the paper adds, the fifth Harry Potter film would probably be shot in Britain again.
The Prague Barrandov film studios, where the Harry Potter crew was to work, has so far commented on the news with reservations.
"I suppose that this is only a reaction stirred up by storming emotions around this film in Britain, and that this provocative report, which is not true, will not be the only one in the nearest future. We are still convinced that the shooting conditions in Prague are better than in Britain," MfD quotes Barrandov spokeswoman Dusana Chrenekova as saying.
The fourth film from the series, 'Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire', will premiere in November, with a Czech premiere scheduled for 8 December. Shooting of the fifth sequel starts in January 2006 and the premiere is planned for 2007.
Prague's 'too sleazy' for Potter boy star
A Prague film studio is hoping to land a major contract for the next Harry Potter movie despite reports that the parents of young star Daniel Radcliffe have misgivings about the Czech capital\'s sleazy image.
Prague: A Prague film studio is hoping to land a major contract for the next Harry Potter movie despite reports that the parents of young star Daniel Radcliffe have misgivings about the Czech capital's sleazy image.
According to British reports, the parents of 14-year-old Harry Potter actor Radcliffe told producers they want the movie, The Order of the Phoenix, to be filmed in England instead.
The report said mother Marcia Gresham and father Alan Radcliffe did not want their actor son to live and work for several months in Prague because of its "wild nightlife and sex industry".
A spokeswoman for Prague's Barrandov Studios, which is bidding for the film contract, reacted to the report with surprise and scepticism.
"I didn't know there was a problem with nightlife in Prague," spokeswoman Dusana Chrenekova said. "Prague is a cosmopolitan city."
The report about Radcliffe's parents "seems to be nonsense", she said, noting that plenty of children live safely in Prague.
She said executives from Barrandov discussed filming last month with the movie's producer Warner Brothers. The nightlife topic was not raised. - Sapa-
