But well..there is no one like JKR

Not her.... she created Edward Cullen.😉 If Edward had been ugly, how many people would have fallen for Twilight?
But hey, welcome back to the forum Ananya.🤗Missed you lots!

It's just that thing though..... some people like Twilight and some don't... it all comes down to personal preference... and you know what I find sad about Twilight? The story idea could have been so awesome if only a better author had considered writing it.... really, it could have been.... no offence to TwiHards :P

Meyer is a fantastic storyteller - no denying there. She is a bad writer, and that is where the problem lies. J. K. Rowling has both the qualities, with her talent in writing being better and more gifted than her talent in storytelling. Without reading the Harry Potter books, I do not think anyone, an adult at least, will be interested inthe series, and yet once people start skimming through the pages, they are hooked till the end. The story - the plot at least - is ordinary. It is her writing that turned this ordinary piece of writing into such an extraordinary one.

I am totally with Chillt - Twilight (granted that I'm not an expert in that saga) would have been much better, not only if it was written by someone better than her, but also if it was written by Meyer had she concentrated and given a little more time to the series. It seems as though she just jotted down each and every of her ideas in a hurry, without thinking how to shape them. Twilight reads like a fan fiction.

True, Twilight does have an interesting plot, and if more importance had been given to the action/adventure part of the story, as well as the evil characters being introduced way in the beginning instead of the end, it would have been a good read. I actually felt that she had a lot going with the James story, but she hurried it since she had already written so much in the beginning, and that's what got me ticked off. If she had written the action and romance side by side, it woudl have definitely been a page turner.

Agree👏; Meyer should have taken more time organizing the story and giving her characters more personality. Her story did have the elements to become suspenseful and interesting, but she spent too much time on the romance and less on the action.

Wish we had a common room to discuss all forms of books, not just a particular one. Oh wait, we already have it, just that book-talk forum (which is aimed at discussing and comparing books in particular) is excessively inactive.

^ She said she's not going to create another fantasy novel - not in the distant future as well. If my memory is correct, I'd posted that article a long time back (around the time when Lakshmi was active here). Maybe I should go and try to dig it up. As far as I can remember, she stated that she had done with her fantastic imagination, and that creating another fantasy world may result into her copying/taking things from Harry Potter, for which the novel may loose its charm an d originality.

Either way, whatever she writes, it will be an absolute pleasure to read it. Harry Potter may fall i n the fantasy genre, but it has shades of other genres as well - romance, teen[age] angst, part tragedy, part comedy, sometimes adventurous, at times thought-provoking, etc etc. So it wouldn't really matter what she is writing, since she usually mixes ingredients from all genres into her work (judging from her previous books).

I think that JK Rowling did a disservice to herself by creating such an intricate fantasy world in Harry Potter. Any other attempt in fantasy would undoubtly be compared to Harry Potter, so I think that might be part of the reason that she might not wish to attempt another fantasy novel.
I hope though that she does stick with a book for all ages much like she did with the HP series. She has a talent to be loved by everyone young and old alike and she should continue in that vein. She inspired millions of children and teens and even adults to pick up a book and read in these times of many distractions (tv, computers, video games etc.), which in and of itself is a fantastic feat.
I think she should have a female protaginist in her next book, just to change things a little, but whatever her next book is I'm sure that it'll become a part of my book collection!
Just to stray off topic agin here though. Imagine this - The Twilight Series written by JK Rowling instead of Stephanie Meyer? Ormaybe immagine a Vampire Series written by JK Rowling (with no resemblence to Twilight) Although, I really don't want to see that. Vampires have been written about so often now and there is so much hype that I think that its quickily becoming annoying!
I also want to say that I agree that teh Twilight story did have a great idea but needed more character development. I really liked the character of Carlise (i think that was his name/) and would have liked to know more about him.
Anyways - congrats to both Lalitha and Chhilt - you were able to survive reading more than one book in that series so I bow down to your patience!!! :)
