I always felt NB resembles Chotu Motu Kesar! 😆 Excellent choice! 😊

Ya not only even in looks but I read somewhere that Neil was made to watch Chotu Kesu episodes so that he could get his mannerisms.

Hats OFF to NB who not only incorporated these but also added his own charm and dynamism and took this character to a whole new level..I must say This Guy can act.."This was the first thing I said when I watchede this episode For the first time.😆

@Piu: I loved that bit too...MP portrayed those emotions so well...the way she keeps caressing his face or holding on to his shoulders...a constant need to touch him as if to make sure he's in front of her at long last...and yes NB-MP totally nailed this scene perfectly...and it seems this just set the tone for many scenes in the future where they just continued to be even more fantastic together.

OMG Anu😳..I just lubb you for your Caps.🤗.Well what to say. This was their first touch after their meet.Gulaal was so full of love and Kesar..sigh..so many layers.Just superb acting by both of them. The chemistry just oozed out instantly.WOW👏

Thank you for the caps Nur - as always, a completion to the written part - and Reemz, you say it all. Echoing Nur - charged is the word.

I want to start off from adding to what you said about Talli seeing him first though. I think what matters is not who between Gulaal and Talli sees Kesar first - but who Kesar catches sight of first! Which, yes ladies and ladies - is Gulaal. To me its symbolic of her being the first and only. The only 'woman' he has ever had eyes for... from let's see, the age of 10 or 12 years?! Everyone wants to get the 'hero' but the hero only falls for the one! 😆

Again - to elaborate on why I titled this post so - to me there was something very comparative yet distinct about the respective instant reactions from G and K. While for Gulaal - this was a first look at the grown up Kesar, for him, it wasn't really. As many people have pointed out over the months (mostly in criticism though) Gulaal's 'change' in appearance of a decade is not so dramatic. In my head - the change has been in her person. She hasn't really gone from being a 20 year old to a 40 year, and although a decade can make a person look very different, let's not forget this is the 20's-30's transition, not always the most stark obvious thing except maybe the 'responsibilities' which change the air about you. It is exactly the transformation in Gulaal. She hasn't grown fatter, or aged with wrinkles and grey hair - nor gotten reading classes at 30 some years... she shows a difference in the maturity about her. Also, is the slightly affectedly contained gestures, the self imposed rules and norms. The way her hand reaches out to clutch her accessories - her neck piece, her earrings - when you contrast and compare with the Gulaal of a decade ago, the vulnerability that has come about in having to 'hold herself within' is evident! And its an obvious change, when you're actually looking for it. But the point is, to Kesar - she is not a new face. And she's not a grand physical difference. Still the emotion in his eyes is reflective of her own - while she blatantly goes into her appraisal of him - an exception to her now new self which has learned to hold back and be drawn within - he instead is the case of bursting and stuffing the surge of emotions! To me, the second her eyes start brimming in this fond and prideful approval of his first impression, his own wall momentarily falls because it just has to mean the world to him - what his Gulaal thinks of him. And as happens in some later to come scenes too, Kesar in this rebellious phase is still transiently very much moved by the slightest show of pride Gulaal holds in him. In a strange way, its the one thing he has always been deprived of - the one thing that only Gulaal and Vasant have shown in him - a sense of pride. And while from Vasant it has been more like an idol or a mentor in his elder brother - getting this attest from Gulaal each time, is like his motivation to become better... even when all he wants to do is hurt her, cut her open, he can't help but give the greatest damn of all, to what she thinks!

Of course, the Duggu FB has to come in and interfere - as it will continue to for quite the while for now - but its interesting again to notice, how when Gulaal pulls off her tune apni Gulaal se muh pher liya... he is fighting to bring the cold face back. There's almost a momentary counter accusation in his eyes, and he does spell his counter accusation for her - although technically, that is not his grudge against her, really. And yet it is! Haha! He's such a cute and funny guy (okay I know inapt adjectives for his angry mode but really!) his base of base trouble is feeling betrayed by Gulaal, and not being convinced about it even in a damn decade. But his secondary trouble - and yes that bothers him although it doesn't get precedence - is being distanced from her... a decision he has taken for the two them, even as a child, but a distance that hurts him no less - in fighting it, in living it!

The coin toss is every bit 'charged' as Reemz calls it. Kitna nautanki hai ye banda - Gullu and he have both seen the coin fall flat in his hand, and then he shows her the crisply balanced adha adha stance of it 😆 You know the one thing I've always liked about Kesar's coin tosses is how he always bids the 'right' decision on seedha side of the coin. Without fail. How does it go, that cliche saying about a coin toss - when in dilemma toss a coin, not to see which side falls face up, but to realize which side you wish it will be, when the coin is still in air?! - Its like Kesar always knows what he wants the coin to tell him - and what he wants is always bid on the seedha side! Almost as 'fair' as the SHolay sikka, if you ask me 😆

Finally that tid bit from Nur's current avi - I'm so OHMIGOSH over it, there's no saying. Yes Nur, interestingly, its my favorite bit from the scene - although its really closely nearly tied with when he turns around first time to her whispered Kesar (which btw is not the last time we hear his name sound like that coming from her!) the last look is pretty classic - its a warning, a promise... and almost an assurance too, everything in one. A warning of more to come, an assurance of I'm back and real ... and an promise of I'm here to stay ... the promise and assurance are adha adha in intention. Very grey at that - the positivity and negativity of his character at its classic clash - but what a moment it is! To me, Gulaal is only consciously unaware of the warning... I personally think she can sense the disturbed undercurrents very well. But just that moment, she's is in such pure bliss, a sneaking glimpse of the optimist in her who once told Vasant she knew she would always win, peaks through, and tells Dushyant (on his expressing worry over Kesar's attitude) that he's just gotten back, give him time.

btw - I added that opening bit of Kesar's comeback particularly to lay out a comparison - of Neil in both scenes. While he's sufficiently good in the first bit, the initial sneaking smile of being the fix it guy, then the creeping and mounting anger blah blah at Dushyant... but the scene with Gulaal is like up by several notches. Its like the newcommer Neil suddenly picks up some last second tips at exponential rate, and the range of his expressions shows a whole lot more variation! They are so subtle, and so distinct all at once - unlike the opening bit, where they are slightly unvarying. Like the 'angry' look, doesn't show nuances, just anger. He's good there, but MP and him in the opening scene raise the bar several notches! An opening scene which spells so much to come - good and bad - kudos to the execution! 👏 One watch, and you know you want to see these two take it from here, to the end!

Late latif aa gayi aap with thy essay?? I'm so knackered today so will have an early sleep but as always agree with each and every word especially about Gulaal's changed demeanour of the years. They always made her wear the dull colours when she had to give that mature and sombre feel but when she was happy, her outfits reflected that very mood.
@Black: Interesting choice of words...'cut her open', he did that eventually but in the positive way. He brought her back to life!
@red: Yes and that made for another eye-conversational piece even in those few miliseconds some unspoken words were said.

Yeee... great effort , Jzee, Nur and Reemz for this brilliant idea and post. This is exactly what the doctor ordered, to recover slowly and steadily from the Gulaal end -grief... LOL.

This was such a brilliant scene... must have watched it like so-so many times, and yet every time I re-watch it, it feels soo fresh and perfect. There is amazing chemistry, I love the way Gulaal is dressed (one of my fav dresses in the show for her), Kesar looks so young n vulnerable, (yet this is right after the macho fight - one against 5-6 goons, where he just was the Rajnikant-style super hero), superb acting by both and such a sizzling eye-lock !!!!!

On a unrelated note, Neil really looked so young and cute in this scene, and as the show moved, his personality changes, along with his physical appearance. Not sure if it was intentional, or just co-incidence, that as he is shown to mature up / wise up in life, so does his looks change from a youngish-brattish look to more of a mature older look. By the end of the show, he looked way more mature (physically) than here in this first scene. Which was great in the sense that even the most doubtful audience could not scoff at the pairing of Kesar-Gulaal, as they look and behave as equals in the end. If it was co-incidence, well great for the show, and if it was intentional, then great effort to show and pay such minute attention to all details...

Like someone mentioned earlier, there are so many undercurrents to the scene, with both trying to accept each-other's presence back in their life... so, the one woman who matters the world to him, he gets to see in the end, and he can't keep his eyes off her, despite all the insecurity and doubts in his mind...

I remember Talli saying in one of the later episodes that she was leading such a dull and soulless life, and his coming was the one big happiness in her life in 10 long years... wow, such a monumental event in her life, where she expected her Kesar to come and be the same loving caring guy she knew... and she gets a shocker, where he is testing her loyalty by means of a coin... poor her... she takes it in her stride, but it sure must have pinched her in come corner of her heart...

^^ Minks! OMG I always always think of that dialog by Talli (it is right after he saved Gullu from drowning and Talli gives him an earful - which for a change actually makes half sense) and she tells him how down her life has been, but his return had given her the one spark, and how he came back and snatched that away from her too - Kesar's expression at this verdict is so so heart wrenching, because everytime he hurts Gulaal, the tip of the knife is really focusing on him! Splendid scene there - also happens to be the one where Gullu proclaims her 'love' for Kesar will not change! A first time - after the leap of course!

ps: He does not see Gulaal last. The family doesn't matter (well, so we pretend) and between Talli and Gulaal (cause the CVs were totally trying to build that half mind status among the audience at this point) he gets to see Gulaal first. =) Talli is last - and i'm not even going to start about what a dimwit scene it is, when she gives him attitude saying if he wants to meet her, he must come to her - eh, yeh right Talli *gags*

I knowww 😎... the scene right after he saves Gulaal from drowning is top of my FAV list... amazing dialogues, (even Talli had some good lines 🤓), and what acting by Neil-Manasi... and how can we forget the infamous "tere liye mera pyaar nahi badlega"... well, hopefully we shall get to that scene soon enough !!!!!

And for Kesar's return scene ... I ignored Talli, as opposed to the family in your case. I have a soft corner for the old PB, who was too good, and was watching the whole episode today, where PB is sooo emotional to see her son back after 10 long years, and the way Kesar just lovingly says Ba, I have come back to stay forever... it was heart -rending... sob sob... the others, Rewa, Giga kaka, and all were also fine... but the 2 most imp people in his life - MB and Gulaal were saved for the end ...

Oh I forgot to blabber about the phenomenol coin toss.i mean I HAVE NEVER SEEN SOMETHING LIKE THIS.This is what made Gulaal special and outstanding. The male lead is not a chauvinist and a stone face almost with no no expressions like those crappy shows..You know na Jzee main kiske bare mein baat kar rahi hun..Instead Kesar is introduced as a Multilayered character.with so much to potray. And MP she is so good I mean Look at her expressions which change with every passing moment.

P.S.Talli*gags*can we pls ignore her🤣Her OTT sugar sweet potrayal and her battisi*crinje*😆

Piu - the coin toss, the tuntuna, the ludo, the jhadu, the chulha(?), the indirect imli, how can I forget champa 😆... the instances of being unique in this show have been innumerable! They've really raken their minds to come up with situations and chances to create the 'magic' without being cliche. GK are unique in every implicit sense of the word.

Minks - To clarify myself (lol) when I said ignore the family, I meant simply, that they were not in the race 😆 I think the CVs at the initial point of Kesar's return kept it very hush about how the story would turn, whether Kesar would be with Talli or Gulaal - if not in the long run, then at least for a short stint they did lots of sequences where the evidence was intentionally misleading! Just like in this case a viewer can easily be thinking, damn! Talli saw him first - and that's where I'm pointing out - all the more wise in retrospect - that Kesar himself saw Gullu first. And that's what mattered!

ps: I need to call it day now. I can't look at the screen without readings doubles of half the stuff... sigh - too much reading today!

So long, until tomorrow - gives the Kesar turns around with meaningful glance expression 😎
