A show like Gulaal...which is a daily soap has to deal with a whole host of other pressures from the channel, the usual TRP audience etc...and to manage to maintain quality despite all THAT is a true marvel to me. I wouldn't even compare or put it in the same league as R.com cuz I just view them in a very separate space from each other. Even R.com was a rare thing among YRF show most of which are honestly still quite mediocre script-wise...R.com was the only show with a strong script cuz obviously Rishab Seth spent so much time working on it in advance.

So the concept of a pre-chalked out script doesn't really exist on a majority of Indian shows. I think - from whatever I know - YRF may have well been a first in that. So I don't know if we can ever really say expected to be pre-planned... but it was a much needed change, that yrf worked out.

As for the difference of weekly and daily - inevitable! Just like the difference between TV and cinema. Which btw reminds me of this interview that Sushant Singh gave where he said how in doing a daily he had come to see for the first time. how scripts and plans could be altered at the last minute - given channel/public/TRP needs! I'd wondered then, and still do - if it was a general statement, because Gulaal certainly seems to betray that idea! Then again, maybe they're just really, really good in stitching up?

Anyway, I think if the CVs had a more or less confirmed intimation of going off air - which really has been lurking around this show for a while now - hopefully they have a plan and know what they're doing. Alternately, even if they aren't prepared but are still as convincing of a plan as the last 2-3 episodes post news, I suppose I can live inside the bubble of belief that they do know what's happening! 😆 Cause really, they introduced Kunal and co. only recently, SD and Yogesh's angle literally just came to fore. Plus Raman's role in Dushyant's showdown looks more imperative than ever. Lots of stuff to build up for a conclusive climax. I like that I can't really put my finger down on one thing and say I know this is what will happen (with the exception of GK coming together of course)! They've lefts us too many clues for that - and that brews up a tempting ambiguity! A bright change from the usual of knowing exactly what the high point in drama will be! Like you said - let's hope they live up to the promise they've shown so far!

Yes, we can say it was expected to be pre-planned cuz ALL YRF shows were intended that way...they weren't like the usual shows on TV...bringing me back to my original point that these are just totally different genres...I'd give more kudos to the YRF ppl if they could in general come up with strong scripts as well...which is sadly not the case...R.com's script was Rishab's...nothing much else has come out of the YRF TV stable that I think can be called as stupendous...all this DESPITE the fact that they plan SO much in advance...a bound script, ample time to shoot the epis, glossy production values, no daily soap pressures and STILL such mediocre crap as Khotey Sikkey and other juvenile stuff of that sort...It's ironic that such a huge production house with ample resources at its disposal is also not able to come up with strong scripts...

Gulaal's greatest strength is it's fantastic storytelling...the WAY the story unfolds keeps you hooked...very VERY few shows on Indian TV can claim that.

Oh-kay... so A) I thought Rishta and Mahi were their first ever on TV... they've done more before that? Again, like I said, I watched only Rishta by yrf. Mahi didn't appeal to me in theme, and I know Powder got popular too, but again... I wasn't so up on the concept. No idea about any others. But if there other shows were not Rishta level - they certainly need to revise that, cause they do have better scope than daily shows to brandish 'quality'. And I'll never know why Mahi deserves a comeback more than Rishta - if that piece of news too isn't just another rumor in the air.

Anyway, back to Gulaal. And its countdown to the end, sigh! Gulaal might be the only daily on Indian TV which has given any credibility to the idea of coherence and quality in a long running day-after-day script. I'd come to believe there wasn't a possibility of that kind, at max after a trimester of launch.
