Well AJ was late for 2 reasons:

1. ironing the shirt that he wrinkled when he threw it on the floor
2. finding a matching waistcoat that goes with that pink shirt that would also show his physique (Nishant has great posture).

Even though he said he wore it as a way to apologize to her, I think he also was looking for her approval, especially because of the way she was encouraging him to try on this new color and because she was convinced he would look great in it. She was gaping at him for a good few minutes because she just couldn't believe he wore it, but also because she's seeing him as someone other than an uncle.

i agree + her complementing him did boost him up

I was touched by the look on Dadi's face. She got really emotional seeing her son all handsome beside his lovely wife and she knew he also did it to make his mother happy. .
