I have always been inspired by Tagoreji's poem "Where the mind is without fear". I connect with every line on two fronts, personal and patriotic. However, in this post i shall try to connect this poem to the protagonists of this show.
Where the mind is without fear and the head is held high - If only the Khurana girls were reared with freedom, foresight and pride in themselves, they would have faced these challenges with confidence and courage. They are so scared to even think of veering away from routine in times of adversity.
Where knowledge is free - Look at Rano and the way Bua has for her own selfish reasons has truncated her education. Knowledge is power be it male or female and now Rano has to learn the hard way that education is a weapon that wields untapped power.
Where the world has not been broken up into fragments by narrow domestic walls - Amrit, cloistered within her territory of the kitchen and a prison of bricks and mortar is unable to see that she has broken her daughthers' world of progress by her narrow-minded and impractical ideas which she refuses to let go of.
Where the world has not lost its way into the dreary desert sands of dead habit- Sunk into a life of monotony, the older generation of Khuranas have become "creatures of habit", wallowing in self pity, derision and cursing the world at large for their own insecurities and failures.
Where the mind is led forward by thee into everwidening thought and action - This is what would be ideal for the girls. Everwidening thought, action, courage and foresight, hand in hand with God, to see their family through the present crisis, breaking the bonds of ignorance to let their minds soar unfettered into the realms of reality in this world which is so full of magic and love, and yet has its hidden corners full of deceit and evil!
