"I can't believe it," says an excited Anand Suryavanshi. This TV actor, whose metallic silver blue car was stolen on February 5 (BT had reported the theft), has actually got it back! And also quite a few of his prized possessions that were inside, like his cellphone, which had a lot of numbers, pictures and other important stuff on it. Anand's car was stolen from the pay and park area outside Goregaon Sports Complex. "I was there for my cricket practice. When I was ready to leave, I realised my car had been stolen." He lodged a complaint at the Malad West police station. Rarely do people get back valuable possessions that have been stolen in Mumbai. And a car seemed highly unlikely. Anand admits he had no hopes. But 20 days later, he received a call from the police. "It was a pleasant surprise!" he exclaims. The police managed to track the car thief through Anand's cellphone. The thief had passed on the phone to a friend. "I had given the police my IMEI number. The moment the person started using the phone, they were able to trace him. And through him, they tracked down the thief and the entire gang. In fact, they've retrieved more cars," says an elated Anand. Even the procedures to get back the vehicle weren't tedious, as one would expect. It took just three days. "It was all very smooth thanks to PI Dipak Phatangare, PSI Chimaji Adhav and others at the police station. I have written a letter to the commissioner of police appreciating their effort," he says. Along with the car, Anand's got back his cellphone, music system and some of DVDs and VCDs. He has lost some clothes and his laptop. "The police are trying their best to get back the laptop," he smiles, as he gets ready to take his car for repairs. "The tyres and engine parts are missing, so it will take sometime for the car to be fully functional. But it's insured, so that's fine." |
