There's an sbs video where the voiceover said kids would be blindfolded and play a game where they have to recognize their mothers. Vinu will go to Sai and Pakhi will shout at him due to which he will remove his cloth and lose the game.

Looks like it. The black saree is for the women's day celebration. But what is not sitting well is the color going by the jadugarni story. It may just add upto Vinu's fear and his interpretation of jadugarni story.
