I don't think anything is binding (not even adoption laws) except Vinu. He cannot throw Vinu aside because he has a biological daughter. The major trigger to throw away Patralekha as a wife is Vinu's real status (if they are still going ahead with Vinu is real Vinu)

He used to do the same initially even after falling for Sai. He used to justify to Pakhi. You didn't find it irritating then although he was married to Sai for giving rose to Sai in her college etc.
