Ok, readers and enthusiastic responders

Finally I am in my comfort zone when it comes to writing.

Crime thrillers, action, humour etc.

For the next update, I have taken some creative liberty. For I have no idea whether the DCW has some judicial power. I assumed it would have, as an independent body.

So in the next update, the officer from DCW investigates the FIR independently. MInd you, she needs to do so keeping the police dept out of it. How she does, and whether she succeeds..

Ultimately justice is served in a manner best deserved, from some unexpected quarters.

Read on..posting in a couple of minutes.

Police HQ, Nagpur

“Jai Hind, Sir!” The DIG looked up from his file and gestured him to a seat.

“Jai Hind. So Virat, what’s happening at your home?”

“May I request you to come to the point, Sir?”

“Sai has filed a counter FIR against you with a copy, marked to the DCW. A lady is expected tomorrow in response. Do you have anything to say about it?”

“What are the charges, Sir?”

DIG Sir read from the list.

“Snatching a minor child from her mother causing mental agony to both mother and daughter. Use of force to prevent the mother from visiting the daughter when she is sick. Also imprisoning of the mother, when she is injured to custody on false premises!”

“I will answer all these in the court, if need be!”

“The court?”

“I plan to file for custody of my daughter, Sir!”

“That would be the most foolish thing on your part. First I suggest, you face the lady from DCW. She is a lawyer and will focus on the welfare of the Child. You can always take the legal course of action some time later!”

“OK Sir. Jai hind!”

Virat sank back on his seat to collect himself. He fished out his mobile, barking instructions to his subordinate staff. Within an hour, he had the necessary proof on his table. He smiled to himself. Now to face the officer from DCW..

Next day the officer from DCW, a stern faced lady with a no nonsense attitude, was shown in his office. He stood up, folding his hands in namaste.

“Yes, Ma’am. What can I do for you?” he was a picture of courtesy and politeness.

She fished out an official document and leaned back in the chair.

“DCP Virat Chavan?”

“Yes, that’s me”

“Dr Sai Joshi had filed an FIR against you, involving us.”

“I am surprised. How does that involve you? Its something between Me and my ex-wife. I would prefer to keep this private..”

“The welfare of a minor child overrides all your privacy concerns, DCP Chavan. You can check with your lawyer, if you wish to do so. Now please answer my queries to the extent possible!”

“Ok, Ma’am. I will cooperate to the extent possible!”

“How do you know Dr Sai Joshi?”

“She is my Ex-wife”

“Separated?”

“Well, she had walked out of my house five years back after a tiff. Then she was involved in a bus accident, she was assumed dead…”

“Assumed dead?

“Yes, a body was found which was assumed to be hers, based on the colour of clothes. But she couldn’t be identified…hence…” Virat’s voice trailed away. “By the time I reached the site, they had cremated the body. I had nothing to prove it otherwise. Hence assumed the worst…!”

There was an uncomfortable silence in the room as the ceiling fan whirled away.

“She was pregnant at that time. None of us knew. She somehow survived the accident, and the child was born. I was unaware of all this, she never contacted me even once. Then recently by chance I ran into her in a summer camp and saw the child. She refused to let me know the paternity…even on repeated questioning…”

“And you had moved on by then?”

“Yes. I adopted a boy from an orphanage and married my sister-in law, a widow to provide maternal affection to the boy…”

“So how and when did you know that the child was yours?”

“There is a rowdy contact of hers..he in a drunken state claimed the child to be mine…”

“And you believed him? Didn’t you try to get DNA test done?”

“I didn’t have the time. By then, Sai already had made plans to elope with the child. I intercepted her at Nagpur bus stand. Took the child away from her and…”

“Plan to elope? How do you know that?”

“The same rowdy…”

The lady did a mental facepalm. “You seem to assume a lot of things, DCP Chavan. Ok, continue. What did you do next?”

“I intercepted her at Nagpur bus station. She had already boarded the bus. I picked up my child and got her home!”

“And your ex-wife?”

“I arrested her, she is in jail now!” A smug expression played on his face. Out of his way at last.

The officer continued. “A copy of the FIR is here. Charges are kidnapping, trespassing and physical assault on a woman police officer on duty. Do you have any evidence in the support?”

Virat passed a CD over the desk. “This is the CCTV recording from Nagpur bus station. Date and time are recorded…you can see it clearly!”

“OK, leave this to me. I will get it checked on my own!”

“Also this is the CCTV footage from the patio of my house which clearly shows Dr Sai Joshi with an intent of trespassing.. You can independently question the lady officer on the assault!”

“Ok, let me do the job…”

The officer left soon after, after signing for the custody of the evidence.

Virat pumped his fists in air. It looked so simple and easy. He was confident of getting a clean chit from the DCW soon.

He didn’t know how misplaced his assumptions were at that instant.

A few blocks away, the officer was viewing the footage with an associate, who doubled up as a private detective. As the tape started, grainy but leaving no doubt about the person with the child in his arms pushing a woman away with her hand in a sling. The woman got up and ran behind the man, pleading with folded hands. Then the man, getting in a parked car, driving away leaving a broken woman behind.

The detective paused the video. “Ma’am, exactly who is the kidnapper?”

The officer looked at her assistant for a long time. “Can you find out more about this?”

“My pleasure..” the detective soon left. The officer then placed a call to the DIG. “I need to talk to you at once, Sir. Yes, the DCP Virat Chavan case. There is a significant development…”

Yes, V is so overconfident...he has handed the evidence against him to the lady from DCW on a platter.
