Virat has moved on in his life. He did move on much before, but he has probably realized it only now. All the while he has been seeking Sai's attention, expecting certain things from her and he too has been doing a lot of things.
Yes, he was swooned by Sai today but I think it was falling in love waala feel and blush. He was always impressed with her but now he has grown fond of her. He has acknowledged it today and that made him look at her this way.
Virat knows what Sai thinks about him and the relationship. He himself wouldn't have thought to take the relationship to the next level.
He would not just want Sai's consent, before he takes it any forward, he would like to know what she thinks about him, whether she is comfortable around him and whether she trusts him and is willing to let him in her private space.
When I say 'like to know', I mean to say Virat should be able to feel these, only then will he himself would want to take their relationship forward and will also seek her consent.
"As we can see in the falling on the bed scene how comfortable they are in the physical embrace especially Sai as she the hesitant one."
It is a sign that they both are now comfortable with the proximity, but there is still a lot of hesitation. They have reached this level of comfort and that is all, the awkwardness is vanishing.
Even today, right after taking the selfie, when Sai turned around, she was startled at how close he was behind her and immediately pulled back. They have that awareness.
"dil cahe aaj ho jaye hum ek rang”
It talks about their unity, not in physical sense. They haven't accepted each other yet as husband and wife or as lovers too.
This line only meant that they accept each other as lovers, as life partners, as soul mates.
I would like to add one more point. Initially when Virat used to show concern towards Sayi he would feel uncomfortable the moment Pakhi entered the scene. For instance during their wedding night Sayi got scared of the lizard and Pakhi came running to their bedroom. He clarified that there was nothing between them. But, now he just ignores her. For ignore he doesn't even bother to give any clarification.
