It is very, very easy for anyone to say this person should not attempt suicide for this and that reason. Trust me, I get very angry when people attempt so for what I consider as very stupid reasons.
We may know them, they may be close to us, but we haven't walked a mile in their shoes, we haven't lived a second of their life. How are we to know and who are we to judge? One of the major cause of suicide is depression and depression most of the times is closely linked to loneliness. And trust me, loneliness can cause even the strongest to stumble!
I used to be be like that too, not understanding the reason why people would even attempt to do so. I volunteer a lot with NGOs and I once met a teen - 15 yrs or so. She had a very traumatic childhood (abuse). But she held strong for her mother who was her support system. When her mom passed away leaving her with a family that victim shamed her, she lost it. When I met her she was in the process of healing, and through conversations with her, we figured out that her attempt was because she had no one to live for, she felt lonely and the void of attachement was eating her up.
I'm not saying it's right - but, we cannot understand the negative emotions people go through. Some people stay put in such situations, but other crumble for they believe they have nothing to fight for.
