I understand your disappointment with today’s episode . I just want to share my perspective here .
I am not disappointed with the episode. Each episode is a window into the minds of the characters so I am disappointed in the character of Virat today. And loved your perspective.🤗 I am carrying forward this discussion with my replies below:
1.Virat never normalized molestation . I don t think he expects her to recall any of her disturbing memories but it’s fact that she faced all of it without breaking down .He expected her to face another challenge of her life without giving up too easily because by leaving the family she will lose the ones that has always loved and supported her in that house . The dialogues could have been better.
The character of Virat is not any random rich businessman kind of man. He is an IPS officer, who has himself rescued this girl standing in front of his eyes and witnessed the kind of people Jagtap and Vitthal are. To 'casually' drop reference to them and how she 'dealt' with their torture and compare it to her current situation of being in a 'loveless marriage to the scion of a grudging family' was totally off placed for me. You don't think that the mere mention of Jagtap and Vitthal can flood her with bad memories and the pain of losing her father? If I were around someone like her, I would never use the trigger words for covering up a feeling I cannot express. All she should have said, "I am with you. Don't give up." And her question was anyway logical- why should I struggle and suffer so much for people who mean nothing to me and when I am not going to be in that house.
He could have given her any other example, but telling her "Jagtap-Vitthal se bhid gayi but mere Baba aur Kaku Ka Dil Jeetne se darr rahi hai?" Sach me laga ki inko aaj breakfast naseeb Nahi hua so dimaag bandh hai... The dialogues toh are a problem because they are only using Google translator Bengali. That's why even the character break is jarring. Virat is not Ranajay. We are bound to expect better from him.
2. Virat has always backed her from the day he brought her into his house not just during the outing plan . I was disappointed today with the execution but he deserves the credit where it’s due .
He HAD to back her because brining her there was his decision in the first place. I know it's more about the execution of the show but then we will also have to take at face value the dialogues that they are making the characters mouth. I have always given him credit when due, but it is a fact that we are yet to see what he will do if he indeed has to choose between Chavan Khandaan and Sai. It has not yet come to that.
3. From the day he married Sai , he always had to chose between his family and Sai and he has always stood by his wife . It’s not easy to stand against people who once were his ideals.
His conviction in standing up for his marriage and his promise to make her a doctor -- the basis for the marriage is applaudable. No doubt. But beyond that, I do not think he has yet reached a point where he has made a "choice". He is playing the balancing act. Protecting her honour, yes. Absolutely he is. But he is also ensuring that he reminds her when she's splashing the water from the pool even if it is a stone thrown by his own family into her pool.
4.I might be in the minority but I never felt he stopped her going to hostel because he needs her . I don’t think he has realized that yet . He is till thinking about zimmenadari, farz .
You know, I actually agree with Ninad's comment at gruh pravesh that as an IPS officer he need not have married Sai to fulfill any zimmedari or farz but he did because of the social pressure and moreover because it was Sai. And marriage gives him the unquestionable right to be with her. He has a connection with her. He even knows he does but he doesn't want to verbalise and acknowledge it. He doesn't need her, you are right. I personally find the word 'need' toxic. So yes, he doesn't need her. But she is his 'spirit'. And so, the moment she speaks of leaving, he feels this sting. He doesn't know that yet.
5. I was disappointed with Ashwini but I don’t think mother son duo were trying to avoid Sai’s feelings. .Ashwini wanted Sai to leave the place before she is pulled into another useless arguments and provoked further. At that time , priority was Sai’s college not another family drama .
I never said the mother-son were trying to avoid her feelings. I know Ashwini was feeling bad but it was her lack of fight that put me off. She was buckling down under the pressure from Ninad and Bhavani with just a raised finger warning. Today, Ashwini was much better than yesterday but it was because Virat had arrived. She can't fight without Virat around.
Also, coming to Virat giving back to the family. I actually didn't mind whatever occurred. It was fine. He made his point in a useless situation by asking Sai to get up and leave with him. He also made it a point to mention to the two spineless old men that there was no need for the show of vengeance on Sai's first day of college. He also gave it to Patralekha in the quantity she deserved. I actually liked that he didn't indulge in her because that is exactly what Patralekha wanted and didn't get.
I did not write much about it because I didn't find anything extremely wrong in his urge to get Sai out of that place. He had gauged everything in those few minutes. He is an IPS officer. They are trained to study forensics. They solve cases by just glancing at injuries. The careful look at Sai's hand was enough to tell him the entire story and followed by Sai meeting his eyes and silently letting her tears flow. And the pain he felt when he did realise it was evident -- it was excellently emoted by both the actors. He didn't need details.
So, what was bothering was the conversation in the car when they were alone. His need to manipulate her to seeing toxicity as normal 'purane khayalato wali family'. It just appeared to be a very bad attempt to cover up the torture because he knew it was that. I would have been a bit okay even if he had just kept quiet during the drive or shut up at the zimmedari uthani padti hai part.
But his reaction to 'oh-my-god' she will leave moment was bothersome. He wants her to fight to win the hearts of his family. Kiske liye? When his own heart is not hers? It's an indigestible advise. Man needs to have a monologue and decide what he wants.
Lastly, I would like to add that I was disappointed because like the danda episode I expected they would surprise me with a good episode but they dished out the same crappy dialogues from other two versions . Though I expected more from Virat I wold give him some benefit of doubt in this case and definitely I don’t think he was a abuser .
I am not calling him Ann abuser either. His care for Sai is praiseworthy but in his attempt to make her understand the need to internalise some of the toxicity, he is asking her to be in the line of fire for no reward at the end of it.
