Hai Janki welcome to the forum. Thoroughly enjoyed reading your post. Both 'vada' and 'vachana' have Sanskrit roots and they are connected to 'vaak' that is speech. Since vada means to say about something definitely and vachana is a 'word' the later seems to be having more value in religious context.
I think a person can fulfil all his duties even in the absence of a promise. Usually a statement is made to remind oneself of what has to be done or for an assurance to the other parties when there is something involving them all together. Hence giving a word has become an integral part of religious requirements and responsibilities to the persons or activities we are dedicated to in life like parents, job, marriage, children etc. Its not a day to day thing. In every day life we only perform our duties.
Virat's promise to Pakhi doesn't make any sense at all because neither Pakhi is his responsibility nor he is undertaking something in life involving her. Moreover that vaada will be an immoral act by both (the one who gave and the one who obtained it as well) considering the fact that such a statement can only be between two persons getting committed towards each other. Here only Samrat has the right to make it and Pakhi can extract such a promise only from Samrat. Virat is an outsider.
Wow! Loved your reference to Sanskrit origin of the two words and also their significance in the context of religious duties.
Completely agree with you that the vaada in any case is immoral. While I would like to give a small benefit to Pakhi about not having feelings for her new husband yet -- they didn't spend even a minute alone so to say to expect a 'progressive' girl like her to feel much -- but her constant nag to Virat about 'purana vaada Nahi toda jaata, Kyun toda Kyun toda" is totally immoral and unacceptable. She cannot deny either that it was her own assumption that Virat had cheated her that drove her to willingly accept the proposal from the Chavans for Samrat. About Virat - the guy is an IPS officer but he wears his heart on his sleeve and goes around brushing the promises to the whole world with his pakki zabaan.
I mean, even Sai was surprised when he landed up in his fancy dress and said he felt she had disconnected herself so he was compelled to come to see her. The dialogues had so much weight - "wo Shaadi chhodhkar tumhare pass wapas bhi toh Aaya... Value Nahi hai?" And "Aaj bhi Vitthal ke gundo se Bach Kar Aaya tumhare pass"... I mean, the guy never video called his so called 'Love' to check on her but he couldn't help video call Sai 🤣 iska involuntary Dil bhi pakki zabaan Dene wala hai eventually 😅
