Hi. I am new here. Been reading all the posts and having a hearty laugh every day. I have a thought to share, please feel free to discuss.
To begin with, am going to use the "vaada boy" tag given to Virat Chavan. No wonder, because his catchline is also "Virat Chavan jyachi pakki zabaan". Much as I am irritated by the constant flashbacks of the illogical vaada made to Pakhi --sometimes even thrice in the 22-minute show 😳😳, I have been pondering over the words - Vaada (Promise) and Vachan (Pledge or Vow).
What Virat made to Pakhi or Kamal Joshi was a "Vaada" and what Virat and Sai have given each other is "Vachan". In common conversations, the words are used interchangeably but I wasn’t quite sure if it means the same. What does making a promise mean? Is it the same as making a pledge? Which one is more binding and more personal? Why do they say that "Promises are meant to be broken". Why is it that when we are made to take an oath, it is not called a promise but a pledge.
Dictionary meaning of a promise is: a statement telling someone that you will definitely do something or that something will definitely happen in the future.
Whereas, a pledge is defined as a "serious promise or agreement". The two words are very similar but also subtly different." The difference could probably be understood by the fact that a promise is more informal and can be broken because it is also personal but a pledge is a solemn oath/a vow.
There has been much discussion about the Vaada jaap and it is annoying too but it is true that infatuation, longing and lack of clarity can be blinding in seeing the reality around. Right now, Virat seems the most delusional of all, even more than Pakhi because he thinks he will be able to give his "Promise" more importance than his "Pledge/Vow".
Pakhi, although crying buckets for who is now "another man and her brother-in-law" has sensed that the 'promise' has already been compromised. One, she is a woman -whether a lead or a vamp -women's instincts are hardly wrong. Her instinct about Virat's soon-to-be-formed soul connection with Sai is not wrong at all. Because what Virat is calling his "farz" is soon going to turn into a "jazba". He cannot see it coming --although he has already sensed it once, much long ago when he went in disguise to meet Sai just because "Pata nahi kyun, par aisa laga jaise tum disconnect ho gayi ho". Pakhi has gauged something from the tone of his voice when he speaks of Sai, apart from the obsession that she has with the 'love' that never happened.
Virat wants to live in denial about this as of now because he thinks he is only doing his "duty" as is his intention but Pakhi knows that the 'promise' will eventually be completely broken and forgotten because someone has already come into his "zindagi" - although he denies that but it is a fact that Sai is now and will be an integral part of his life and days. The promise of the "heart" will soon be broken too because when it happens, it won't just be the 'dil' where Sai will be. It will be the "wajood" (identity) that will be intertwined in such a way that Virat and Sai won't be able to find themselves without each other.
