Well guys if they were to show that she is standing up for her rights and for her daughters rights, there wouldn't be any story line. I hope this is not happening in India for real! What does it matter, hell If I had 4 girls and my husband gets another woman cuz he wants a boy, he is then asking for serious booty kick.

😛

I think it may have something to do with Savitri's background, maybe her mother was in the same position, or her parents taught her that a "good" woman/wife/mother accepts everything her sasuraal heaps on her, whether its insults or praise... It is very difficult to lash out in a society that stifles women... especially if she isn't in a winning situation...

I however believe that once she realised what sort of person Menka is, she should have developed a backbone... not necessarily speak out ginst the injustice, but fortify herself and request that she is given the respect she has earned. She is the elder bahu and the first wife, etc... so she should have some rights... right? It is ridiculous that she lets everyone walk over her and stands back while her daughts are practically abused... total rubbish! 😡 It may be difficult, and yes unheard of to fight back. She may be ostracised and even kicked out... but she hasn't even tried! I mean her husband never even smiles at her and her mother-in-law never has a sweet word for her... I won't even talk about Menka... that filthy witch!😡

ABSOLUTELY TRUE. her husband has never even kissed her i think, after he got menka..or even slept (i mean, in the gud way..like along wid the family) ever...she has bcome so onely..i think when she goes to bed and sees her bed empty, she must be crying in her heart..

This soap is yet another regressive one. They portray them all to be so helpless. Ridiculous. I think Savitri is doing herself and her kids a huge disservice by not standing up for herself. If you don't stand up for yourself, no one will...and therefore you are asking to be treated they way you are.

I understand TV and soaps supposedly reflect society, but it is also their job to utilize the power they have and try and change stereotypes not glorify them.

I feel like this soap is over 50 years old. They are educated people from a rich family, if they behave so regressively, there's no hope for the under privilaged!

Ridiculous.

I think a person is helpless, only when they allow themselves to be. This woman is spineless and she is the most unhappy woman I've ever seen on tv. Her husband replaced her like a pair of shoes and ignores her and her beautiful daughters. The only hope for this show is when it comes out that the second wife is a witch and her son is a snake and a loser. I'm sure this will not influence the father any, so what difference does it make. The worst thing about this show and this character is that it shows a poor example for young women. This show buys into the lie that women are not as valuable as men. And the idea of suffering in silence is why men are able to mistreat and abuse women in the first place. And usually when one generation allows itself to be victimized, the cycle doesn't stop with them. Just look at what Saraswati has to deal with. She's got a drunken bum for a husband and horrible in-laws and she too suffers in silence. TV is a strong forum in todays society, it should do a better job when it comes to its characters. A character like Savitri is a sad reminder of the inequality of woman in society and it is a shame the makers of this show even created her character in the year 2006, almost 2007. Its a shame they even created a show like this period.

Reading through all the above mails, all that I can say is that people who can't understand Savitri have never been an underdog. In the real world, where politics is heavy, it is a sad reality that poeple who do not have power will not even know that they have to have self respect. It is sad, but true.
