Geet heard him break into a laugh and opened her eyes in disbelief. She thought he would yell at her or be cold for what she had done but there he was laughing at her plight.
"So, you really thought I will bring Claire as your assistant? And you hired another guy so that you could fire her?"
Geet nodded innocently. Maan couldn't help but pull her cheeks.
"I'm sorry Maan. I am soo sorry. I can't believe I told Pinky to fire Vicky!", she pouted sadly.
"It's alright Geet. He is not fired yet. You still have time to make that decision.", he teased.
"What?"
"Yeah, I mean obviously you can't hire both of them right?"
"Well then, I can fire the other guy!"
"Really?", he raised an eyeborw at that.
Geet rubbed her forehead with her fingers. "I can't. If word gets out, that would be a whole news cycle on nepotism. Negative PR!!"
"Well, you can always hire the new guy as an intern and see how it goes. Keep him if he is good.",suggested Maan.
"Right! You are my saviour Maan", she kissed him on the cheek.
Maan pinned her down on the bed. "Waise Geet, were you jealous back there?"
"Nooo...of course not..I..was.."
"huh...?"
"Well yes. What if I brought someone like that in front of you?", she let go of him and sat upright on the bed.
Maan massaged her shoulders still lying back. "Try me Geet. I know you and so I am secured. In my defense, I didn't bring her here. She met me in the plane. To be honest, I tried to get rid of her. That's why I didn't tell you on the phone that she was coming. But she just wont go without visiting!"
Geet smiled. "That's fine. She is gone now."
Before she could leave he again pinned her down, "Don't you even think you can escape with just a kiss."
Geet giggled under him, "Stop it Maan! Vicky and Amy will be up here anytime."
"Yeah, Like I haven't heard that before..."
He was about to kiss her when Vicky and Amy rang the bell loud again and again until she answered the door.

One of the most happening places in New Delhi on New Year's Eve was the Leela Palace, where the launch party of Paegeant India was happening. Raymond, Ramona had all flown to Delhi to witness the event. There were may prominent celebrities, fashionistas, desginers, photographers and philanthropists present in the event. Dressed in a silver grey suit ensemble, Maan graced the occasion with his charming and confident persona. In her sequined golden knee length party dress, Geet on the other hand was nervous as hell. She was pacing up and down when she felt his hand around her waist.
"Maan! This is so not the time! ", she complained.
"Relax Mishty, shake a leg. It will be fine! Everyone will love it. " He kissed on her cheek
"You have worked so hard. There is nothing you can do now. So enjoy!"
He practically lifted her whole weight with his hands as he dragged her to the dance floor.
It was a peppy song on the floor.
Geet and Maan grooved well, a pleasure to the eyes.
"If it isn't my lucky charm, huh?", came a heavy male voice.
The man literally peeled Geet away from Maan as she danced to the tune holding his hand.
At first Geet was shocked but then she met the stranger and her eyes went wide with joy.
"Kailash?, What the hell you doing here buddy?", she exclaimed irritating Maan even more.
Kailash lifted her up cutely and put her down, "Well, I got an invite to this nosy party! Program head of TYZ media"
Maan glared at him, which went unnoticed by both of them.
"Hey, don't call my party nosy!", she playfully punched his arm

"Your party? Don't tell me you are the hot shot Editor of Paegeant India?", he asked pleasantly surprised.
"Yep, guilty!", Geet smiled her charming smile forgetting all about her nervousness.
Maan cleared his throat by this time. Geet held her hand around his arm with authority and introduced, "Kailash, this is my husband Maan and Maan, this Kailash..thr rogue! We were in post-grad together..."
"Wow, Maan my husband! how plain and Kailsah has to be rogue!", was the only thought that came to Maan's mind.
"Remember him? I used to tell all those stories when we had fun at class. In US Maan..", she probed.
"I'm sorry. I don't remember.", Maan replied with a lack of interest.
"Uffoo.. Maan", he was shocked when she complained like that.
"Wait, is this your imaginary boyfriend, huh?", realisation dawned upon Kailash.
"What? I told you he was NOT imaginary!", said a defensive Geet.
A bewildered Maan looked at the both of them with an unfathomable expression on his face. He hated this guy!! The man was tall, well-built and had a great voice. Not that he could intimidate Maan Singh Khurana but the way Geet was at ease with him all of a sudden did bother him even if he didn't want to admit that to himself.
Kailash turned to Maan with an easy smile, "Ok, listen to this Maan. I had this amazing crush on this lady when we were in college and I go and tell her. You know what she told me, - I am spoken for!- seriously who says that these days! All that time I believed she said that just to blow me off. I mean I never saw you two together..."
If Maan had mixed feelings about this guy a moment ago, he hated him completely now! He had a crush on HIS Geet!
Maan gritted his teeth and ignored him, "Geet, I think you should check with your team now. It's only ten minutes to New Years now."
"Relax Maan, Vicky has it all covered. Besides, you only told me to stay on the centre stage when they reveal the cover. I am staying here!", she chriped happily.
'Of course she was staying here with Mr. I-have-a-crush-on-your-wife!', he thought to himself grudgingly.
"Hey guys why don't you keep talking while I go get some drinks...", Kailsah excused himself politely all of a sudden. Geet was about to say no need when Maan quickly jumped in, "Great! A vodka for me and a gin and tonic for the lady"
Kailash was slightly taken aback as he only asked to be polite, "ok! sure...I..I will go get it.."
As soon as he was out of sight Geet turned with a questioning look at Maan, "What was that for?"
Maan feigned innocence,"What? He asked.."
Geet rolled her eyes, "Maan, we are the hosts. He was only being polite!"
"Oh, I'm sorry I don't fake politeness at random people!", he taunted back.
Geet sighed, "Besides I'm already feeling guilty about leaving Amy behind. I don't want to drink"
"Trust me Geet, this isn't a party you would want to bring yoyr five year old. Besides, there is no way Mia is partying this way past her bedtime at this young age. She can do that a long time after in her in life. Just not about now.."
Geet smiled at his protective attitude. Typical Maan Khurana!
Oblivious to Geet, as they were talking Maan led her away from the spot where they left Kailash.
"What? Anyway neither of us are driving today! We have chaperons...so I say lets just enjoy that drink, huh?"
"Yeah...oh..no Maan, Kay will be looking for us. We have moved..", Geet realised suddenly.
Ofcourse Maan knew that. He moved away on purpose. In the background he could hear people getting excited for the new year countdown.
Ten...Nine...Eight...
His eyes scanned the room and found a struggling Kailash trying to get all the three drinks together and walking towards their earlier spot.
Six...Five...Four...
Next thing, he spotted them and was walking towards them. Maan didn't know what came upon him. He had to do something to show that this woman was off his limits, anyone's limits! He wanted to make some gesture to show that "Kay" that she was ONLY HIS!!
Three..Two...
And then it happened. In a swift motion he pulled her towards him and kissed her full on her rose-petal like lips. Geet struggled at first trying to make sense. And then ever so naturally she melt into that kiss full of passion and possessiveness and the rest of the world, the drink-bringing Kay and the crowd shouting "Happy New Year.." all fade away. It was just Maan and Geet!!
The moment they parted, they became conscious of the gaze of not just Kailash but every single person in that party for the spot light was on them. They were standing right in front of the projector screen where the very first issue of Paegeant was about to ve revealed. Instead the whole crowd got a spectacular view of the love birds. Geet was beetroot red with embarrassment. The crowd include everyone. Ramona, Ramond, the other board members, media person, her dever Vicky, her enitre team for crying out loud. She titled her head slightly to see Maan. He was stanidn there proud as ever! As if nothing wrong ever happened!
The crowd went silent for the next few seconds when Maan finally broke the ice, "Come on guys, It's our first new year since we got married! "
The crowd giggled and clapped for the couple. Trust him, to save such a ruined night, thought Geet.
"And now I present Geet Maan Singh Khurana, the Editor-in-Chief of Paegeant India. She will explain the look of the magazine and our plans. Over to you.."
He gently slipped his hands away from her waist and disappeared into the crowd leaving her to do her job. Geet got her wits togetther and did a decent job of presenting the magazine. The magazine was elegant and insightful.
The first edition didn't feature super models or actresses, instead Geet went for the elegant working women, the busy ladies like CFO of the XTF advertising technologies, the reknown Gorumet chef, the Chairwoman of Iota group of Companies, the Chief Secretary at the External affairs office, all women in their early thirties who are particularly known for their sense of style. The women were each given a day to select their own pick from the top brands and designers and one show stopper designer wear by Ramond himself that complemented their style. The theme was everyday fashion including segments for housewives, college students, teens and working women.
When they wrapped up the event it was around 2 am in the morning.
"That went so well Mishty! I am soo proud fo you", he complemented her and was about to kiss her on the elevator when she stopped him.
"What? ", he asked innocently.
"Don't talk to me Maan!", the elevator dinged and Geet rushed out to the apartment.
She was fumbling with the keys when he came closer and took it from him to open the door. They had the key so that they wont disturb Liza or little Amy.
"Mishty, what happened?", he questioned impatiently.
"Shhh..you will wake everyone..quietly Maan...", she whispered
Maan stood closer to her as she took a bottle of water from the fridge and whispered, "Ok..Mishty what happened?"
"You really don't know, huh? " she walked away into the bedroom.
"Honestly, I don't ok!", he declared.
"Well, may be you don't know how hard I worked for this launch and then you had to sweep it all away with that "kiss" of yours! Now no one is going to talk about my work! Evryone will only have eyes and ears for that Mr. and Mrs. Khurana kiss!", she complained as she changed her dress and slipped into her pyjamas unkonwingly tempting and torturing Maan.
He sighed as he undid his tie, "That's what you are worried about!"
"YES!", she mocked him.
"Don't you think I would have thought about that? As we are speaking Adi is making every guest sign an agreement of non-disclosure that they are not allowed to talk about that New year kiss. They will be penalized if they did talk or even accidently leak the video!", announced Maan proudly. "Happy now?"
She pouted. This Khurana actually thought about everything.. "Wait..people have a video?"
"Not anymore. They will be asked to delete it before they leave the premises. No one is allowed to share even." Maan seemed pretty happy about himself.
But Geet was just not in the mood to give in, "I don't understand Maan! I mean you knew that even if we were in some corner of the room and kissing, someone would have figured it out and made a gossip about it..."
"Gossip? We are married...what gossip can they possibly talk about?", he argued.
"The point is when you knew this wasn't about us and this was about Paegeant! Why would you do it in the first place and then go through all that trouble. I mean that came from nowhere...wait a minute!" Suddenly Geet realised something obvious.
Her eyes had forgottenall about the complaint and so did her voice, "Maaan... you were jealous, right?"
Maan frowned, "What? nooo..why would I be jealous?"
Geet started laughing.
"Shh... Geet you will wake up everyone now!", whispered Maan as he undid the buttons of his shirt.
Geet tried hard to keep her voice down. Relaxed now, she plonked herself on the mattress with her stomach down and stared at him with a funny expression.
He threw his shirt at her, "Stop looking at me like that.."
"Maan say it na..you were jealous... and who "Kay".."
He was changing intro his tracks but the mention of that name again got on his nerves! Bloody "Kay"
He threw the black T-shirt he was about to wear on the floor and jumped right next to her.
"Ok.. I admit it alright. I didn't like the way that "Kay" behaved around you! I didn't like the way he was at ease with you! Satisfied now.?"
She stopped smiling and looked at him lovingly.
She cupped his cheek, her hand gently caressing his stubbled chin, "Maaan... you know you don't have any reason to worry, right?"
He nodded, "Ofcourse I do know that..but..I..I couldn't help it..." and he finally smiled.
They touched their foreheads together and sat like that closing their eyes, relishing the feel of each other.
"I love YOU...always did..always will Maan.."
"So do I...Mishty.."
That was enough. They both knew how much they wanted each other. How possessive they were about each other and it astonished them how crazy they were for each other even after all these years.
