Geet was looking everywhere in the office but there was no sign of him. Finally she met Adi and asked him.
"Maan sir actually went to Uttam Nagar. There is a client meeting.", informed Adi.
Geet nodded sadly, "Ok. I am going home for now."
Maan was in the most foul mood. The whole NT incident had rattled him. His wife lied to him about liking the gift and then the meeting. Well, it was partly his fault. He didn't budge to any of the negotiations and kept snapping at the client. That didn't go well. Finally he reached the apartment. God knows he wanted some peace!
As soon as he rang the bell, he found his little girl at the door, "Hi papa!"
Maan lifted Mia in his arms and went towards the couch.
"How come you are early today?", quizzed Mia.
"To see you sweetu..", he pulled her cheeks. Maan heard some noises of plates from the kitchen and then a few seconds later came his wife. She was not looking at him. "Amy, ask your papa if he wants coffee!"
Maan watched her standing there tapping her foot without throwing a glance at him.
Mia looked at mumma and then papa, "Papa do you want coffee?"
Lisa was sitting on the side couch pretending to read a magazine while enjoying the fun unfolding. Maan nodded for a yes. Mia immediately took her role as a messenger, "Mumma papa wants coffee. And Mia wants sandwich!"
Geet smiled at Amy and pulled her cheek. Mia rubbed her cheeks. Whats with her parents and her cheeks anyway.
As the coffee was being served Geet still continued to bother Amy, "Amy ask your papa what he will have for dinner?"
Mia sighed, "papa papa what.."
Maan sipped his coffee and rolled his eyes, "Mia tell your mumma I just want a simple soup."
That's it. What were they thinking, fumed Mia. "Papa, mumma you tell each other naa! I have some homework to do."
With that she stormed in to her room taking her books. A laugh broke out from Lisa but she quickly suppressed it and followed Mia.
Maan said to himself, "Right! Madam lied to me and now she is the one who gets to stay mad!"
Geet who stood right behind him, "Oh! Hello..I didn't lie."
Maan glared at her which made her reconsider her words, "I didn't want to hurt your feelings." Geet said in her cute tone.
"Oh, so it was about that?", Maan was still pissed.
"Why else do you think I would lie to you?", questioned Geet.
Maan kept the mug on the teapoy stood up. "Geet, I told you if you didn't like the cabin we can always change it."
Geet retored, "Maan, why don't you understand? It is not about the cabin. It's about the job. I don't want to work there."
This was news to Maan. So far he thought she only disliked the cabin and office. But why the work?
"You think I am dumping you with work? Mishty I only want the best for you!", this time he was pleading more than arguing.
Geet sighed. She went closer to him and sat next to him still lost in her own world.
"Why would you think that?", he asked softly.
She closed her eyes tightly and took a long breath. It was time to come clean.
"Maan, KI needs a lot of time. The responsibility of a new launch is so much. I wont be able to handle it."
Maan looked at her as if he didn't believe what she said, "You will. I have seen your work at US. You did great. You had a dream to be like dadi. I want you to pursue that."
Geet was surprised. Was that all this about? This was becoming harder and harder.
"Maan, we just got married. I want to give more time for family. Working at KI, you think that will be possible?"
Maan raised his hands in air. He was not in a mood to reason and process. Instead the argument was becoming more and more clouded.
"You are just making up excuses because you are scared you would let me down. Geet I know you can do this. You managed Amy and your work without me! Now you are not alone. She is already growing up. Now is the time to focus on your career. I will step in too and help. It's high time Vicky joined office. Once he takes some of my work I can easily juggle. Lisa is there as well."
Geet looked at him with an obvious expression. Would that be all to their life? Isn't there more, something obvious that he was missing!
As if he read her thoughts Maan continued and thereby shattering Geet's little dream world of hope, "Besides, it's not like we will have other kids! "
Geet blurted out, "What?"
"What do you mean what? Do you want someone other than Mia to love? All our love and care goes to her and HER only!!, Right?",reasoned Maan completely oblivious to Geet's feelings.
Geet sat like a statue. She knew that Maan was sincere. He loved Mia so much that he didn't want kids of his own. Amy was her life. There was no question about how much she loved her as well. But with Maan in her life, she just assumed that soon Amy would have a little brother or sister to grow up with. She was so sure about Amy that she didn't doubt about her love getting divided among her kids. But now that he asked something like this, anything she said would come out as negative. If she said she wanted more kids, what if Maan thought that she only said that because she wanted their own kid! What if he thought she was discriminating?
The thought itself was so intolerable that Geet quickly replied, "You are right. We don't need anymore kids. And I should focus on my career. I will join office tomorrow."
Hearing those words made all his anger vanish. "That's my Mishty. I know you just need a little nudge. That's what I am here for!!"
He kept his hand on her cheek gently, "Mishty, this time you really want it, right? Or are you saying it because it would make me happy?"
She looked at him and his earnest eyes. That was worth devoting all her life. "Is it wrong to want to do it because I know it would make you proud?"
His lips curved into a smile, "I am proud to be your husband. You don't have to do anything else. But Geet, there must be someone who have to look out for you because you always do things for others. I am just doing that. Do it for yourself, Mishty!"
He kissed on her cheeks lovingly.
"Now let's make some dinner. I'm starving. You go in. I will change and join you"
He made her stand and patted gently on her bum. "Go go..."
Geet smiled and walked to the kitchen like a robot. By the time she took a kadai and kept it on the stove, a drop of tear trickled from her eyes. Geet quickly wiped it.
"Uffo Geet, why are you being sad? You have Amy, right? Maan is right. She deserves all of our love. A kid is not just my decision. If he doesn't want another kid, then what is the point of hoping for it! May be focusing on my career would actually take my mind away from all this", she consoled herself.
She was startled by his hands snaking around her waist. "I know you have a hot husband to dream about. But let's cook something for a change, hmm?"
And there he was helping her out like a gentleman, cracking jokes and flirting with her oblivious to the turmoil in her heart.
He murmured softly into her ear while they cooked, "You look worried."
"Nooo, nothing to worry!", she quickly replied trying to avoid his gaze.
Geet was getting the curry into the bowl. Maan cleaned the plates and kept the kept kitchen towel on his shoulder, "We need to talk about NT. I know you are worried."
Geet sighed relieved. It was better Maan thought that was the matter. Partly she was concerned about that too, "Well there is dadi and Dev to consider. But that is not what troubles me Maan. What if she comes back?"
Maan, "Geet, she wont. Trust me! Not for another few years."
Both of them were now setting the plates on the dining table.
"I trust you. But what happens after that few years?"
Maan carefully poured water on all the glasses, "After that may be we will find new cases on her."
Geet shook her head, "Maan I am serious. There are more ways to hurt us, right? Amy will grow up by then."
Maan looked at the table with satisfaction. They both made a great team together, he thought.
"Geet I know what you are worried about. I promise you, Amy will hear it from us first and no one else, alright? "
Geet almost had her eyes filled, "When?"
"When we think she is big enough to handle the truth!", Maan held her hand and kissed gently.
"You think she will love us even after that?", she asked not able to hide her anxiety.
"Ofcourse Mishty, she is our kid! Like every other thing, we will go through that together."
When Geet found herself in his embrace that night, she knew that this man was worth all the sacrifices in the world. If Maan says he doesn't want more kids, that is what she wants too, vowed Geet to herself.

Annie had redecorated the entire mansion with great care.
Dadi smiled at her efforts and asked her to sit next to her, "What is going on?"
Annie looked at the ground not knowing how to begin, "I am planning to invite bhai and bhabhi back to home. I know, I know that sounds awkward. What I am planning to do is invite them over for the weekend for lunch or something and then ask them to stay! I mean even if I have to beg them or fall at their feet, I don't care. I want them here back with us."
Dadi squeezed her hand, "Annie beta, you know Maan na? Don't keep your hopes high. But I am happy to see that you are making an effort."
Annie smiled. As dadi was about to leave Annie cleared her throat, "Dadi is it ok if I call Arjun too? I mean he helped us a lot. And he is leaving this week. So I thought.."
Dadi smiled, "Alright beta. That would be fine. Arjun is family despite whatever NT did! She received what is due for her. But I am worried about Dev. There is no news of him. All this would have been hard on him too."
Annie consoled her dadi, "Dev bhai might be hurt today dadima. But sooner or later he had to know NT bhabhi's truth!"
"Right!", dadi sighed. How she wished her family reunited once again!
