Chapter 58

Maan's attention drew to the changing room being unlocked, he glanced over his shoulder and tensed. Geet stepped out changed into her Victoria Beckham black wide leg jumpsuit, her hair loosely bunched in a messy bun with a few curls caressing her cheeks.

He swallowed thickly looking away quickly, he's been caught enough times, he didn’t want to be caught again. He focused on his phone keeping his head down, his hood pulled up covering him.

"Gigi" Nick stood excitedly.

"How is he so happy so early?" Tara groaned sitting up rubbing her eyes. "It's only…" she glanced at the clock, "8.30am" she yawned.

Geet walked over to the mirror checking herself out answering her sister, "I've got somewhere to be" she paused glancing over her shoulder frowning seeing Kartik still sleeping. "I'm sure I woke him before I went in to get changed" she muttered.

Maan looked over wondering whom she was talking about, their eyes met for a brief moment before they looked away, Tara's words echoed in Geet's mind. She recalled the kiss they had shared and thought over Tara’s words. His hesitancy, his reluctance when he barely responded, she cleared her throat and perused herself in the mirror. She was also wondering over his attraction towards her, it was clearly evident he was attracted to her.

"Gigi, can I come with you?" Nick asked seeing Geet reach for her handbag, he instantly knew it was time to leave.

Geet looked down at her nephew, he was still in his pyjamas. "Sean, get Nick ready" she nudged her brother in law.

"Tara, please" Sean groaned burrowing his face into the pillow.

"Get up lazy, Tara has been up half the night with Tess" she nudged him again.

Sean huffed scowling at his wife who grinned and cuddled Theresa into her arms closing her eyes. "Do you have to follow her around like a lost puppy?" he asked Nick.

"Daddy, do you have to follow mommy around like a lost doggy?" Nick answered.

Geet smirked, Sean scowled standing up.

"Come" he tugged Nicks hand and led him into the bathroom to help him shower quickly and change him. Geet glanced over at Kartik who continued to still sleep.

"Hey kid, wake up" she walked over crouching down and shook him.

"I’ll battle you" Kartik swiftly sat up narrowing his eyes.

"Excuse me?"

"Oh shit sorry" Kartik scrambled up onto his feet, "I overslept" he mumbled.

"Clearly, weren’t you told about the..."

"I was" he interrupted before she finished, "I’ll just quickly get ready" he stated.

"Okay, good. Be down in 20 minutes" Geet replied turning and walking out the room.

"Why aren’t you ready, Mum?" Geet questioned Marissa noting her making breakfast with the other ladies, couple of men were helping the women including her father.

"It’s your day, baby girl. What am I going to do there?" Marissa answered.

"Leave this" Geet took the plate from her hand, "Go and get ready please, dad and Sean are here to manage things for a couple of hours".

"Thanks darling" Suneel mocked.

"You’re welcome for the promotion" she responded turning to her mother, "Go! I’m going to be late".

Marissa huffed and hurried up the stairs, it’s almost near impossible to say no to Geet.

After Kartik, Marissa and Nick joined downstairs, Geet noticed the rest of her team had gathered in the hallway all dressed smartly. She informed them to get into the cars outside waiting and they made their way.

She sent a quick text to her other colleagues and they responded they were already at the venue waiting for her.

"Ms Pearson and Mrs Pearson, it’s a pleasure" Gavin Ryder walked over greeting them with a huge grin and shook their hands. "I’m so pleased to be the one shooting you all" he looked around nodding in acknowledgement of her team.

"Rihanna is going to be the one interviewing you" Gavin stated as he walked to the hall where he’d set up with his crew. "Okay, so how about we get the team ones done first?" he asked Geet as they entered.

"Gavin, darling please remember they’re guests also" Rihanna approached them shaking Geet and Marissa's hand. "Would anyone care for a drink or anything?" she asked.

"No, thanks for asking" Geet responded.

"I want a drink, Gigi" Nick cut in.

"No, you don’t" Geet shook her head, Nick frowned.

"We could get him a juice" Rihanna informed.

"It’s not that, he’s prone to having accidents with his drinks" Geet murmured. "He’s fine" she smiled.

"Alright, so as I said maybe we’ll do the teams first then go onto taking yours and your mothers picture together?" Gavin suggested.

"Yeah. Sure, whatever works" Geet smiled.

"I cannot believe Gavin Ryder is taking our photograph" Kartik muttered as they stood in a line staring straight ahead towards the camera.

"Believe it, boy" Shaina responded chuckling.

"Right, okay.... let’s see here" Gavin stepped forward rearranging staff members, "Can I have both the Pearson ladies here please" he pointed. Geet and Marissa stepped forward and into the front.

"Okay, Business executives put your hand up?" Gavin called out. Adhira, Arshad, Anna and Kieran held their hands up.

"Right, I’d like you ladies to stand here, then you there please and can I have you here" Gavin gestured, they did as he asked. "Now, the rest of you form a semi behind them, those who are taller please be behind" he called out.

After pictures were taken with the team, Gavin asked Geet and Marissa to remain with the executive managers behind them, then it was just Geet and Marissa followed by shots of Geet alone.

"I wanna be in the picture, Nana" Nick frowned at Marissa.

"We’ll take a lot when we go home" Marissa assured, he wasn’t happy but watched his Gigi pose like a good boy.

"Okay, I want to see you smile naturally like someone told you a joke" Gavin requested.

"Give me a joke" Geet smirked.

"You want a sex joke?" Marissa quipped from behind.

Geet chuckled shaking her head at her mother.

"Perfect" Gavin grinned, "You look playful here. Okay, I want one where you look powerful like you mean business" he told her.

"Kartik come stand in front of here" Shaina teased, "Geet means business with you all the time".

"Leave me alone" Kartik frowned.

Geet attempted looking powerful but ended up laughing, which ended up as a great shot.

"Serious business now" Gavin told her.

Geet nodded, crossing her arms in front of her and giving a small smirky smile.

"Perfect, perfect" Gavin clicked shots.

"Okay, great I think I've got it all" Gavin smiled, "It's going to be looking great on the magazine, Rihanna they're all yours now".

As they were just going to be interviewing Geet, Marissa and the executives – Geet had arranged with Aryan he'll be taking them out to breakfast as none of them had eaten before they set off. She managed to convince Nick to leave with the promise of taking him out later on.

After they had left, Rihanna took the remaining team to a different room where it was set up for the interview.

"Okay, you're all comfortable I can see" Rihanna chuckled as she saw Arshad leaning back on the sofa casually.

"You did say to get comfortable" Arshad winked.

"Okay, so my first question" she smiled looking at Geet, "would obviously be to you, Geet".

"Shoot away" Geet smiled.

"It is well known that you handle two jobs, one of which is an Air stewardess and the second is your hobby – interior designing" Rihanna started, "How did both of these profession come to be?"

"To become an air hostess, I decided that when I was in university. I still had no idea what I wanted to be because there were days, I considered joining medical school and becoming a doctor, other days I wanted to be a police officer or detective. Becoming an air hostess came to me suddenly, its like waking up one day and you decide your career in a snap" she laughed. "I did do research and how to meet the criteria, then applied for Emirates Group".

"What was your reaction?" Rihanna questioned, "Was this something you dreamed for her?"

"Honestly, I hadn't dreamed anything for my daughters. It was their choice what they wanted to be, Suneel – my husband and I knew Geet, she was interested in a lot of stuff so we weren't sure what she was going to be and we just waited for her to tell us" Marissa answered.

"I sent my dad into silent mode when I first told him" Geet laughed.

"Suneel wasn’t really happy, because we were doubtful and concerned" she replied, "Geet enrolled herself despite knowing her dad is really really not happy".

"He never said no" Geet laughed and turned to Rihanna, "One thing I am very grateful for is my parents never said no – they'd give their concerns and be doubtful but never said if you do this I'm cutting off all ties or whatever else some people do out there".

"Parental support is utmost important for us" Rihanna agreed. "With their blessings we succeed even more and make them proud".

"Whilst I waited for my application response to come back, I started working part time at this interior designing firm because that is something I loved doing. I love decorating, that was something I did since I was young. I painted and rearranged things all throughout my life so I decided to get some experience because I'd had gotten a designing degree. I wasn’t sure if my Emirates application was going to be accepted so I had interior designing as a back up" Geet explained.

"You mentioned in your speeches that Adhira here has been your support" Rihanna pointed.

"Honestly, I just said a couple of words. Nothing else, it was all Geet" Adhira chuckled.

"The firm I worked at for 2 yrs, I'm not naming anyone" Geet winked, "So, the managers refused to give me my own project. I was just assisting and I wanted to do more because I was capable of it" Geet explained, "I was quite hurt, and Adhira encouraged me to start my own business".

"Was the journey smooth?" Rihanna asked, "You were now working as air hostess as well?"

"Yeah I was working with Emirates now, on my days off I worked at the firm which is about 2 – 3 days a week, but I always done around 9-10 hours day so I was working nearly full time working hours" Geet responded. "The journey wasn’t smooth, whilst I continued working part time I started signing on clients using resources of the company. I was already putting in money and time in organising a place to rent but I needed clients".

"You used the company's resources?" Rihanna chuckled.

"We didn’t just use resources, we'd signed on 7 new clients that were to sign on with the company" Adhira added.

"Wow" Rihanna looked at them surprised. "How did the company take it?"

"We were fired" Geet laughed.

"There was around 6 of us" Adhira added. "News of the top designers leaving that company spread around".

"So, did the news of our project completion with our new clients" Geet responded. "Word of mouth from our clients spread around and we were signing on clients".

"What happened to the company?"

"The company at the time lost their clients slowly to other competitors, designers left to work with others, some of them who applied for my firm" Geet responded, "The managers closed down the firm due to the loss they made, and now work for one of my competitions".

"Marissa, were you with Geet the whole time during this?"

"I knew about it, she called me up every night telling me how things were going" Marissa replied.

"My mother was a branch manager" Geet intervened, "There had come a point where I struggled to manage my flying and my firm - that is when my mother stepped in" she smiled. "My mother has been my greatest support, she’s the woman who has kept me and my business going when I’m not here, she’s been the pillar of this firm - so I’d say she was with me the whole time and she’s still with me right now. Without my mother, I don’t think I would have reached the heights of success that I’m on" Geet squeezed her mother’s hand in a assuring manner.

Marissa beamed at her daughter, she was so proud of her youngest daughter.

The love, respect that they shared was evident the way they looked at another, their eyes filled with pride and love.

"So, the company is being run successfully, your job is also great - what made you want to open a couple more branches world wide?" Rihanna questioned.

"Best person to answer that would be Anna and Kieran" Geet pointed.

"You wanna start?" Kieran asked Anna.

"Um okay" she smiled clearing her throat, "So, at the time I was managing the projects that were done abroad, we had a lot of requests and started on sending designers for a couple of months to work on that project - which grew our client base after they finished and we’d have requests of this new person wanted their house done, or that person did" she continued. "Kieran and I then pitched to Geet about opening a firm abroad".

"She considered the idea for 4 months" Kieran laughed, "She was sceptical".

"Which is good!" Geet informed, "I discussed the idea with Adhira and my mother - we had concerns, I wasn’t going to be able to set the company up, my mother couldn’t leave at the time as my sister was pregnant and Adhira had young children as well - so once we’d discussed it - we sent Anna and Kieran" she pointed. "Once our first branch was successful and clients poured in, Arshad was sent to start a new firm followed by a couple of my other colleagues who unfortunately couldn’t make it today" Geet finished.

"Wow, now you’re one of the best designers out there" Rihanna responded smiling. "Is there anything new in store for us? A new branch or anything?"

"Not at the moment, no" Geet smiled.

"You’re well settled, you’ve got a business, a career in flying all sorted, on the professional front you’re doing great - what about personal front?" Rihanna inquired.

"Like you said - it’s personal" Geet smiled.

"Ah I see" Rihanna chuckled, "You dont wish to share, okay so I think we’ve gone through all the questions. It was really really great to have met you all" she stood giving Geet a hug.

"It was a pleasure to be here" Geet responded.

"I’m angry" Nick crossed his arms in front of him.

"Why? You’ve had breakfast outside, you had chocolate crepes and cream, we had cereal" Sean responded.

"Gigi not back yet daddy" Nick replied. "She promised to take me out".

"She’ll be here soon" he tried to assure his son but Nick wasn’t having any of it.

"No, I want Gigi now" Nick yelled.

"Nick" Tara hissed as Theresa shifted and burst out crying, she lifted Theresa into her arms trying to rock her back to sleep.

"Nick, come here" Sean moved to lift him however he ran out crying.

"Oh, Hey" Maan looked down as Nick came colliding into his legs. "What’s wrong buddy?" Maan crouched down as he sniffled and cried.

"Did you hurt yourself?"

"Mommy shout, daddy’s not getting my Gigi" Nick cried. "Gigi naughty".

Maan smiled gently, "Buddy, you’re strong right?" he asked, "I think you broke my legs with those strong muscles here" he poked his small arms.

"I’m strong like daddy" Nick nodded swiping his cheek and nose.

"Strong boys don’t cry for girls" Maan whispered.

Nick giggled, "Gigi not girl".

Maan mockingly gasped, "Is your Gigi a boy?"

"No, silly. She’s Gigi" he laughed. "I’m marrying my Gigi when I grow bigger" he informed. "I’m going to be husband" he said proudly. "That way me and Gigi are going to be together forever and forever like mommy and daddy".

"You want to marry your Gigi?" Maan asked.

Nick nodded eagerly, "My Gigi is the best".

Maan chuckled, seeing that Nick had calmed down he asked, "Would you like to go out into the garden and play?"

"I want to play with my Gigi - she’s not here yet" he frowned realising his Gigi wasn’t back.

"How about we both play?" Maan asked noting the sadness that crept back quickly.

"Can you play? Does this hurt?" Nick touched Maan’s cheek.

"Not anymore" Maan responded, "I think you’ve got magic in those hands".

"I have magic?" Nick grinned widely.

"Yeah, how about we go and play with some of that magic outside?" Maan quizzed.

"Okay, do you know how to play hide and seek? Gigi and me play that all the time" he straightened and took Maan’s hand into his as Maan stood up, Nick then rugged and led him outside. Their exchange hadn’t gone unnoticed, Sean had watched them silently from a distance.
