She was trembling badly.
Some encounters leave behind a deep imprint on the psyche and for all her bravado, Geet had not been able to forget the one with Vikram.
She tried to hold her fears back, tried to be brave but she felt fear enfold her, dark and bitter and earth shattering.
Maan was fighting the goons singlehandedly and she could do nothing but tremble in place.
Suddenly the knife glinted dangerously in the hands of one of them and he was ready to plunge it in Maan's back.
A shriek came forth from her, loud and shrill, "Maan".
Her feet flew in the direction of the assailant and with all her might she shoved the man to one side.
He was tall and heavy and angry to boot.
Shifting the knife to one hand, he used the other to hit her hard across her head making her tumble to the ground, landing on a large rock on the ground.

A father usually knows his son best.
Raj watched Maan come in and sit beside him.
Kuch toh chuppa raha hai, he knew.
It was time to test the waters.
"Maan, beta, ek baat puchu tumse", he asked and continued when Maan nodded.
"Ye jo Geet hai", he said slowly and watched the sudden alertness in his son's body.
Maan was leaning forward with a slightly expectant face eager to hear what he had to say.
He purposely kept quiet until Maan prompted, "Dad, kuch keh rahe thay Geet ke baaremein".
Raj smiled as he looked away, " .. haan beta. You know I am her guardian now, right".
Maan kept on watching him expectantly, nodding, wondering what this was about.
"Ye Dr. Teji shayad usse pasand karta hai. Ladka toh hummein boht pasand hai, I mean handsome hai, well settled hai, nature bhi accha hai ..", Raj baited, glad to see the frown that Maan could not hide.
"Wo main aur tumhari Mom soch rahe thay, kya uske saath Geet ke rishtey ki baat chalaye? Tum Geet se kyu nahi puchte ki usse Dr. Teji pasand hai ya nahi"
