Just came across this FF. I must say u r a fabulous writer. I m in love with this story.

Geet demotivated by her life as couldn't clear the entrance exam repeatedly. Now she knows once she goes back to her village her life wouldn't be in her hands. And waisa hi hua.

The other side Maan is also having a difficult time with his job. N upar se constant pressure for his marriage by Dadima.

Geet family is planning to marry her off since she is not studying but isn't she young.

Maan bhaiya. Lol. Their first meeting was interesting. Maan calling her chubby cheeks and actually smiling at her antics. How cute.

This isn't the same Maan who married her. I agree that it was against his wish but why is he giving her hard time. She is also forced into it.

The train journey interesting to read. Finally Delhi arrived. Geet can't catch up to him. Maan angry at her.

Let's see wat happen next.

Totally loving this FF.

Chapter 17 : Tujhe Yaad kiya...Tera Naam Liya

Geet kept close to him as they came out of the station. Maan , she noticed was looking for someone. He waved to someone standing at a distance from them and he started walking faster leaving her behind.

No.

Not again.

And she ran after him.

A man standing against a grey car started walking towards them. He was a tall man. As the distance between them decreased she had a better view of him.

When he came to stand in front of Maan and Geet,he gave a broad smile to Maan and then took the luggage from his hands.

For a moment she did not recognise him inspite of the fact that he looked framiliar.

It was when Maan called him by his name that she remembered him.

Ayush.

Who had thought that they would meet again?

And that too here out of all places

***************

The taxi stopped in front of the yellow bunglow in Sector 3 , Salt lake , Kolkata.

Aditya Kashyap rang the door bell and adjusted his glasses . He was both excited and nervous.

Excited to meet his wife after a whole month. And nervous because it meant he would have to face his father - in -law.

A father in law who despised him and did not even care to coat the hatred with sweet words. The door opened pulling him out of his thoughts.

"Jamai Babu ? E ki surprise ! Weren't you coming tomorrow?" asked the woman in her melodious voice opening the door wider.

She was wearing a sea green bengal cotton sari over a white blouse whose sleeves ended at her elbows. Her black dyed hair had been tied up in a bun . The wide open kohl lined eyes and parted lips spoke of her surprise.

"Surprise !" whispered Adi while bending down to touch her feet. "Pishi Maa...How are you? I took an early morning flight. Wanted to surprise you all. Didnt you like it?"he asked while straightening up.

"Oh I loved it. Come inside. Piku would be delighted to see you . As it is half of the time she keeps dreaming about you,"Jayita(Pishi Maa) said while closing the door. Her red bangles and white shankhas clinked aginst each other drawing attention to her hands.

Adi smiled.
So his little wife missed him and yet would never accept.

He followed her into a well furished large living room where he saw his father in law sitting in a plush chair reading some book.

"Bijoy Dada..see who is here..Jamai Babu has come,"Jayita spoke drawing her brother's attention towards them.

Bijoy Mukhopadhya looked up from his book , removed his spectacles and kept it on the nearby table . He kept his book on the same table in a slow motion and simply stared at the visitor who was both unexpected and unwanted.

Adi met his father in law's gaze which was as usual devoid of pleasure at seeing him.

He simply touched his feet and then asked ,"How are you Baba ?"

"Alive, I suppose," came the terse reply.

Jayita, surprised at the acerbic tone of his brother asked, "Dada e ki bolchisch tumi?" (What are you speaking brother ?)

Adi had been used to this tone now.

"Of course you are alive.Nowadays people don't die so young. After all you are not more than 75, right Baba ?"he answered back.

He met his father in law's eyes and as expected he was being glared at.

Bijoy opened his mouth to speak something to remind his son in law his place but his sister cut him by saying ,"Adi you should go upstairs , Piku is in her room. Till then I will get ready your breakfast."and then she turned towards her brother,"Dada Eikhane boshe ki korchisch? Ja dokane thake sandesh nie aye"

(Brother what are you doing sitting here . Go and get sandesh (bengal sweets ) from the market)

"Why should I go ? Send one of the servants."

"The servants are busy. I need them in the kitchen. Go now ," she commanded.

Adi was in awe of the lady. Her respect rose a thousand times in his eyes.
After all not everyone and anyone could order Bijoy Mukhopadhyay, the retired district judge.

He rose to leave for upstairs when he remembered something and then opened his bag's chain to take out two boxes wrapped in a beautiful gift paper. He gave the bigger box to Pishi Maa and then reluctantly forwarded a smaller box to Bijoy who made no movement to accept the gift. Adi gave out a defeated sigh and then keeping the box on top of the book that Bijoy had been reading a while ago and then silently he left the room.

Three years and he hadn't been fully accepted by his wife's one and only family whereas Pinky had his family wrapped around her little finger. He couldn't say it out loud but it did hurt.
It somehow made him feel that he had failed his wife.

"Dada..why would you behave like that with him?"Jayita demanded an answer from his brother.

"The fact that he married my daughter without my permission is more than enough a reason."

"Do not forget Piku loves him. It was her own decision. She wasn't coerced into it. You need to let go . Keeping grudges will take you nowhere Dada,"she tried knocking some sense into her stubborn brother and when she did not get any response she left for the kitchen.

No.

He was never going to let go.

He tolerated that Kashyap boy only because of his daughter. To accept him was impossible. How can he accept a non Bengali , non vegetarian boy as his son in law.

That boy didn't even has a government job. He rose from his chair ready to pick up his book when his eyes landed on the gift box.

What could be inside that? Must be some stupid gift.

After all what did that non bengali boy knew about him to give him useful gifts. He tore open the gift paper and opened the box only to be surprised by his choice of gift.

Inside that box was his favourite novel .Nostonirh by Rabindranath Tagore and therein lay a small note on which was scribbled

"To my dearest Baba from his not so dear son"

He was stumped.
He quickly reminded himself that he hated that non bengali boy and yet couldn't ignore the warmth that spread in his heart.

**********
Adi entered the room to hear her voice floating in the room.

"Aye mere humsafar...ek jara intezaar..."

Pinky and her love for romantic songs.

She was taking her bath perhaps. He looked in the direction of the washroom and a huge poster of Hrithik Roshan on the bathroom's door stared back at him. He looked around to see the framed certificates won in different singing competitions were hung on the wall.

He looked at the bed where a large bunny sat alone. Throwing his bag in a corner , he stretched himself on the bed waiting for his wife meanwhile listening to her musical voice.

"Ab hai judaai ka mausam ...do pal ka mehmaan..."

***
Adi felt someone making patterns on his chest. And then soon enough he felt something wet on his cheeks. He opened his eyes to find her staring at him intently. She had properly settled herself over him placing his arms around her and her wet hair fell on his face as she bent to kiss his forehead slowly brushing his nose with her own.

She placed a soft kiss on his cheek and then the other.

Each time she moved closer her wet hair met his face. He waited for the meeting of their lips but it didn't come. She was back to staring at him. And then very slowly she whispered in his ears

"mujhe tumse hain kitne gile...tum kitne din baad mile kyon kyon kyon bolo itne din kya kiya ...kya kiya kya kiya"

It took a moment for him to realize that she was singing a song. His wife was lying on top of him, her face barely inches away from him. They hadn't been together since a month and ignoring the primary needs she was singing a song!

He looked into her eyes to realise she was teasing him .

Very well, he loved this game.

He pressed her further to himself and sang ,"Tera naam liya...tujhe yaad kiya...tujhe yaad kiya ...tera naam liya..."

"ghar ki safai ki?"she threw him a question.

He answered ,"Nahi"

She pouted ,"Nahi?"

He shrugged.

"Plants ki patai ki?",she asked again.

"Nahi."

"Nahi?"

"Nahi"

"Toh phir kya kiya ...kya kiya... kya kiya?"

"Tera naam liya..tujhe yaad kiya ...tera naam liya tujhe yaad kiya"and before she could realize what happened , their positions were changed and he was lying on top of her and she under him and he pulled her lips into a passionate kiss.

Chapter 18.Piya Ki Gali

Geet glanced at the door nervously and then quickly averted her eyes.
He was standing outside the door talking to her husband. But to her relief he wasn't looking at her. He was as immersed in the talk as Maan seemed to be.
She moved closer to the door and listened as Maan invited him but he politely declined. He bade good bye to Maan and was ready to leave but then he looked straight at her with uncertain yet curious eyes and then he gave her a hesitant smile after which he was gone.

Hesitant or non hesitant . His smile was still beautiful.

She was gazing at the floor thinking about the time when she had seen him first when the bolting of the door drew her out of her thought. She looked up to see Maan standing in front of her.

The gravity of the situation dawned on her. She was finally in her husband's house. To be precise it was a flat.

He was staring at her as if trying to burn her down with his gaze. If he was trying to intimidate her then it was working. She took a deep breath and gave him a small tentative smile.

Within her chest that small muscular organ , was thumping real hard.

He moved towards her and all kind of wrong thoughts started swirling in her mind.

They were alone. He could do anything and everything.

What was he going to do now? Why was he walking towards her?

Close and close and closer! What exactly was this man planning?

She was just 21 and too young to become a wife in real terms.

That's it he was too near for her comfort. Just a few more steps and she would act as if she has fainted. This was the only way she thought she could save herself from him.

"That is my bedroom,"he said while pointing towards a room.

Maan noticed the throbbing of her pulse in her throat. He noticed the emotions flicking through her face. He came to stand close to her and whispered,"The following thing is over so do not follow me into that room." And then walked away to his room locking her out.

For a long period of time Geet kept staring at the closed bedroom. She herself wasn't very keen to follow him. It wasn't the closed door that bothered her but his behaviour.

She was having a hard time recognizing that boy who had offered her his own ice creams. That boy had teased her. Laughed at her.

Her husband was someone who was going out of his way in trying to be rude to her.

Did he remember her or not ?

Since she had nothing else to do, she looked around her. She was standing in a large , spacious hall turned into a drawing room. The walls were painted a dull white.

A three seater leather sofa sat in the middle of the room and an oval glass table was placed in front of it. On the table were placed a few business magazines.

There was a wash basin in the corner of the hall , to the right of the basin was a closed door.

She opened the door and the hall was flooded with sunlight. Standing in the balcony she saw similar flats like hers interspersed in the compound.

She came inside and stopped in front of the basin to look at her reflection in the mirror.

She was looking terrible in messy hair and face covered in dirt. She needed the freshening up more than him. Walking back to her luggage ,she extracted out her toothbrush and paste and was ready to brush her teeth when his door opened.

He was wearing a white shirt over charcoal black trousers. His hair was damp and had been combed way from his forehead in sleek manner.

His face was clean shaven.

The sleeves had been folded upto his elbows. He looked at her and then said,"You can use the room now,"and then made his way towards a closed door.

While he opened the door, she peeked over him to see that it was a kitchen, small but clean.

She walked back to the wash basin in the hall to brush her teeth.

Maan, meanwhile tore open the milk packet that they had bought on their way to pour it in a vessel. And let it boil on the gas. He was running late and his head was throbbing with all the journey.
He needed his morning coffee. He preferred black but then drinking black coffee in an empty stomach wouldn't be a good idea. He opened a cabinet looking for the biscuit jar.

The wash basin in the hall was placed diagonally to the kitchen so as Maan turned his head, he caught his wife looking at her reflection in the mirror lost in her own thoughts. He turned back to his coffee making.

"You are going somewhere ?"

Maan was wearing his shoes over the socks when he heard her question. She was standing in front of him.

"In case nobody has told you ,Good news!your husband has got a job."

"I will be staying here alone ?"

"I am assuming that's a rhetorical question."

He kept tied his shoe lace and stood up.

"When do you come back?"

"When the office gets over,"he answered and walked towards the wash basin. He took a last glance at his face in the mirror and then picked up his laptop bag to leave for the office.

"Close the door properly and don't open the door unless it's me," he ordered while picking up his bike keys and then left for the office.

Geet closed the door and didn't realized that she was crying until the tears started meandering down her cheeks.
He was not at all likeable. It was quite obvious to her now that he didn't like her.

The bell rang twice. Who could it be ? Her heart came to her mouth. The bell rang again. She quickly looked through the peeping hole and sighed in relief.

Maan.

As soon as she opened the door, he rushed to his room.

Maan opened a small drawer in his cupboard. And found what he had come for. He came to the hall and gave it to his wife.

"This is a spare sim card that I have. The mobile would like to be put in use instead of locked up inside a suitcase. Activate it now."

He then took out a pen and wrote down his mobile number on the front page of the magazine kept on the table.

"This is my mobile no. Call only when it's necessary. I have kept the food packet in the fridge. You can eat if you want."

He then stood there deciding about something , pinching the bridge of his nose and then spoke , "I m going to lock the house from outside. "

Geet looked at him with confusion in her eyes.

"I m not going to do this everyday. It's just for today." And then he was gone. The door was again being bolted but this time from outside.

And she found she had married a very strange and emotionless man, perhaps. He was nothing like she had thought him to be. Had she ruined her life? She began getting afraid. How was she going to spend life with such a man.
Geet pulled her luggage to his room . There was a large bed placed against the wall. The walls were painted in white and the curtains were cream coloured.
An A.C was fitted in the window. A small table was placed next to the bed on which a mobile stand was placed. A small L.C.D television on the wall.

She opened her suitcase to take out her things. The first thing she did was to unwrap the mobile. A Samsung Galaxy. This was her first personal mobile. Back at home, she used her mother's mobile.
As most of the time she used to be at home so buying two mobiles to be kept at home was a waste of money.
She quickly activated the phone and then ran to the hall to save the first number in her mobile.

Maan-9876543210

She sat on the bed for a long time thinking about the U turn her life had taken. She thought about her Maa and Baoji. What must be they doing now ? Missing her just like she was missing them ? She had never been away from her parents for more than a few hours. She thought about her school, her dreams, Patiala, daarji,Titu,Di and Jiju.

She wondered how the hazel eyed boy's life had turned out to be. He had looked happy.

She thought about her husband and his behaviour.

After what looked like hours had passed that she went to take her bath. As she stood under the cold shower, it was then she allowed the tears to escape from her eyes.
