Part 42

It was almost half a month after Geet's birthday. Geet was now a full time employee of Khurana enterprise working as a business analyst. Maan is still her boss though she had joined a new team. All the others in her batch were also accepted and everything was going on smoothly.

Maan had been out of country for some international conference along with finalizing a deal. Geet still did not get a chance to ask Maan about his weird demand of a strange promise on her birthday. It was not something very important however Geet felt like she should confront Maan about it. It was her gut feeling that something might turn out completely wrong in near future.

Geet was lost in her own thought when Naina came inside.

Naina:" Hey Geet, where are you lost?"

Geet:" Nothing special Naina. Just something Maan had said long ago."

Naina:" Knowing Veerji it would be something weirdly philosophical. Don't worry, Veerji tends to be little mysterious sometimes."

Geet smiled. Pari was in the washroom. She came out and sat along with the two. Noticing Pari a bit tensed Geet asked, " Hey Pari, what's wrong?"

Pari:" Geet didn't you read the notice. Now since we are no longer interns we have two months to find own accommodations. We won't be allowed in the hostel after that."

Geet:" I guess we have to start with apartment hunting soon. I have heard that finding one in Mumbai, especially south Mumbai will be really hard."

Pari:" Hmm... so you and I together right?"

Geet:" Of course Pari. Who else will I share my apartment with? What about you Naina?"

Naina:" I don't know. I mean my and Dev's marriage is supposed to be sometimes in April next year. I don't think I would need an apartment."

Geet:" Oh yes your highness!!"

Naina:" Geet!!! When would you ever stop calling me that?"

Geet:" Never. So since it's already December what about your marriage shopping."

Naina:" Oh there is nothing much to shop since for most of the functions I will be wearing the family jwelleries; only my dress, which are already at the designers. Rest can be handled by my mother."

Pari:" So where are you getting married from?"

Naina:" Udaipur. And you both need to come."

Geet:" But Naina, I mean we..."

Pari:" I know Geet...Naina that would be..."

Naina:"It's my marriage guys and I want both of you there beside me on that special day. Please pretty please. You guys are my only friends."

Both Geet and Pari sighed nodding positively.

Pari:" I don't mean to intrude Naina but how come Dev is getting married earlier? Isn't it the tradition that the eldest son would be married soon? And I think Maan sir is almost thirty. He can settle down."

The topic of Maan settling down made Geet blush red. After all she would be his bride. But she was nowhere ready for marriage yet. They had just had their first kiss recently. They had yet things to work on as couple before they can be ready for marriage.

Naina:" You are right Pari. Technically it should be Maan veerji marrying first. But last month when we had a talk with him he just said that he was not ready for marriage. He also said that the girl he was in love with is still not ready to take that step yet and he is willing to wait. Since dev and I had been engaged for years now it was actually Maan veerji's idea to get us married."

Geet was overwhelmed by how much Maan cared for her. How did she ever get so lucky to have him in her life?

They three talked for few more hours before deciding that it is time for them to sleep.

Tej was watching Maan fidget on his seat. They both had been in the conference and had decided to take a little detour to Tej's place in Delhi.

Tej:" Stop fidgeting Maan. You are making me freak out."

Maan:" I need to confess everything to Geet."

Tej:" Yes you do."

Maan:" You are not helping you know."

Tej:" You are not here for my help Maan. Geet would eventually find out everything on her own. That would hurt her even more. "

Maan:" She trusts me so much Tej. I should have told her everything at the very beginning before starting to date her you know."

Tej:" I did tell you."

Maan looked like he had been crushed. Tej took a look at his best friend and sighed.

Tej:" Maan, I know why you didn't tell her in the beginning. You were greedy to have some memories with her. You knew that no matter when Geet comes to know everything she will snub you and would want nothing to do anything related to you for a while. You would need her memories to live through till she sees that you were not the one at fault."

Maan:" But I am at fault Tej."

Tej:" Someday when she will forgive you you would finally be able to see through the truth. Any way Maan go and tell her. My baby sister would give you some hard time but eventually she would come round."

Maan was boosted by Tej's confidence and he planned that once the deal is finalized he would go and confess everything to Geet. This is not a thing to talk over phone.

Meera was super excited. Just now she got a call from Sid that their convocation program was announced second week of January which means it will also be another reunion for everyone. Being super excited she called up Geet.

Geet:" Hey Meer, why are you calling me now? I am at office now."

Meer:" Geet I know you are at office and sorry for calling you up there. But our convocation is announced in second week of January. It's a Saturday so no need for leave. Don't you think it is amazing? You can take a flight Friday evening and we can have a blast reunion party at college."

Geet:" Wow! Meer it's amazing. I think I would book the flight right away."

Geet realized that Maan's gift of using the gift card can be utilized for paying up for the trip. She found one flight at 10pm. Meera had said that Sid would come to pick her up so she was not worried about taking the late night flight. She took a flight back on Sunday evening. That would give her enough time to rest and be ready to attend office Monday morning.

Geet was super excited. It would be a reunion with all the college friends plus they would also receive there degree certificates. It would mark the true end of their college life. It also brought the feeling of nostalgia. If everything would be okay then Armaan also would have been graduating with them.

Armaan... that name still brought along the pain. She still missed him so much. Being selfish sometimes she still wished for Armaan to be there beside her but mostly she had stopped. A part of Geet's heart would always love Armaan but she can't help. Yet today she loved Maan as well.

She had been dating Maan for what...six months? Yet they are closer than ever. Their relation is way more deep and intense to the extent that in six months Geet had already begun contemplating marriage.

Geet came out of the reverie and sent her ticket details to both Meera and Sid.

Soon Sid called her up.

Geet:" Hey Sid! "

Sid: "Hey Geetis pie! I just got your text. But this would mean that you would reach Chennai almost at midnight."

Geet: "Yes Sid. Actually Meer told me that you guys would be receiving me."

Sid:" Yes dear. We will. I just wanted to talk to you. I am so excited Geet. We all will be meeting."

Geet:" I was thinking something Sid. Can you please keep an open mind about the issue?"

Sid:" Okkay Geet. I will definitely try."

Geet:" Umm I was thinking that Yash might be there for the convocation. Do you think we should talk with him? I mean it had been four years now. And once before everything he used to be a friend. I mean I am not saying you and Meera to be friends with him. But maybe relationships where you can atleast say hello and wish him well or something?"

Sid took a deep breath. He had promised Geet he would keep an open mind about everything but it was incredibly hard to do that.

Sid:" I won't deny Geet that having a normal relationship with Yash seems awefully hard; esepcially for Meera. But he used to be a friend. I wish him well in my heart. I am still mad at him for breaking Meera's heart but I do wish him well. I and Yash cannot be friends for same reason Meera and Pari can't. But I do owe him a chance to talk. Like Meera and Pari even Yash and I have some unresolved issue between us and I would do so. But yes you should talk to him. There is no reason why you can't be friends with him. So go ahead."

Geet:" Do you think Meera would be fine with this?"

Sid:" I would talk to her Geet. But I have a feeling she would be okay with this since she has moved on. A part of her will always belong to Yash but she has had her closure."

Geet:"Perfect. Do talk it out with her."

Sid:" So how is your romeo doing?"

Geet:" Maan?"

Sid:" Who else would it be?"

Geet:" He is presently out of station busy with some deal. I miss him you know Sid. But I have a feeling I won't get to meet him before the convocation."

Sid:" Is he going to take that long? It's still almost three weeks away."

Geet:" Yeah, I mean I hardly know all the details but there are several legal procedures to be taken care of before a deal can be finalized. "

Sid:" Any idea when he is finally coming back?"

Geet:" Nope. Even he couldn't give me a proper date."

Sid and Geet talked some more before they bid goodbye to each other.

"Fine Mr. Murugan, I will be there for the event and also the announcement."

Maan kept off the phone. He was incredibly tired after his extremely busy day. His talk with Tej had also been emotionally draining. He knew his time is running out and soon he would have to tell Geet everything. If he can't then Geet will find out and that would be a mess.

He wished he had not been greedy for Geet's companionship. He should have handled it more maturedly. He should have made the decision from his brain but he instead followed his heart. Sometimes we do silly mistakes if we are over-clouded with emotions. He had indeed bitten off more than he could chew...
