Ajay Devgn has rolled out a full line of sequels this year, and the newest one has finally taken its first swing at the box office in the form of De De Pyaar De 2. You can read our review here. With the 2019 film (De De Pyaar De) still remembered for its lively reception, the second chapter arrived with a fair amount of expectation.
The early reaction hinted at interest, but the opening tally showed a more controlled start than many trade watchers predicted.
Rakul Preet Singh, R Madhavan and Meezaan join Devgn once again for this continuation of the earlier story.
The film put up a day one count of 8.5 crore, which places it slightly below the 9.11 crore opening of the previous part. The comparison arrived instantly since the franchise had built a clear baseline in its first outing.
How the new film compares across Devgn’s sequel streak
Devgn’s year has seen a variety of outcomes. Son of Sardaar 2 began with 7.5 crore, while the 2012 original had reached 10.7 crore. Raid 2 surprised the trade by starting with a hefty 19.25 crore, almost double the 10.04 crore of the first chapter.
De De Pyaar De 2 now sits right between these extremes, creating space for a possible turnaround through the weekend.
What the turnout reveals
The film secured a little over 5100 shows on day one. Morning attendance reached 7.46 percent, afternoon climbed to 10.66 percent, evening touched 12.80 percent and night shows peaked at 25.26 percent. The pattern suggests that later slots carried a bit more energy, giving the makers reason to hope for a stronger Saturday and Sunday.
Devgn and Madhavan last appeared together in Shaitaan, which had opened at 14.75 crore and ultimately collected 147 crore across India. The new film follows a different tone and structure, and its growth will depend on steady footfalls over the next few days.
Directed by Anshul Sharma with writing by Luv Ranjan and Tarun Jain, the cast also includes Javed Jaafery, Ishita Dutta, Gautami Kapoor and Meezaan Jafri. The next two days will decide how the sequel settles into its theatrical run.
Poll
Do you expect the film to cross 40 crores over the weekend?
Ajay Devgn’s sequel run continues with De De Pyaar De 2 opening to a modest 8.5 crore on day one. The film brings him together with Rakul Preet Singh and R Madhavan, yet the early numbers stay below the first part. With more than 5100 shows and rising evening turnout, the weekend will decide whether the film finds stronger momentum.
