"Rosa."Geet stepped away from Maan, straightening herself and looking at the green eyed, black haired woman who stood before her. She was still the same as she had been 6 years ago; prim, serious, barely showing an iota of emotion. However, judging by the carefree and bubbly nature of the little girl, she must have showered her with more love than ever imaginable.
"Maan, you said we'd never see her again." She spoke with a hint of a French accent. Her arms crossed tightly over her chest, her mere presence so intimidating that all Geet wanted to was flee.
The little girl looked up from where she sat on the porch at the 3 people in front of her. Her warm eyes met Geet's and she smiled; willing Geet to keep her feet firm on the ground and stay put.
"She wanted to see her."
"She has no right!" Rosa's eyes flickered to Geet. "You got what you wanted. Why are you here?"
"I may have gotten what I wanted, but I was never at peace. Not truly. Surely you can understand, as a woman?"
"I'm not interested in your emotional spiel. The bottom line is you are not welcome here and I want you gone," her eyes flickered to Maan again. "I mean it."
Rosa turned to leave but Maan's next words halted her in her tracks.
"I sought Geet out. I left to find her."

"Geet's missing?"
Johan looked up from his desk at Pari, who looked like she had aged by some 10 years in the space of a few days.
She nodded. "I thought you might know where she is, or have any further details..."
He shook his head. "I'm sorry, Pari. I have no clue." He dropped his pencil and leaned forwards. "Perhaps you could ask that man... the one whom she was avoiding? Your neighbour?"
"That's the problem. He's gone too, and I have a feeling that she went after him."
A nerve in Johan's neck twitched, and he suddenly retreated back into his chair. Pari noticed the slightest of changes in his behaviour, but it passed as quickly as it had arrived. He stood up, walking over to the small bay window behind him.
"Maybe you should let her do this. Perhaps it's what she needs."
"You don't understand. She's done this before."

"It's how she left India after our parents died."
Pari's fingers traced the rim of the cup, a habit which she shared with Geet. Johan sat opposite her, his fingers opening and closing into fists repeatedly.
"One day I woke up, and she was gone. Not a word, not a letter, not a trace. It took me months to find her here Johan, and I don't want to lose her again. I can't."
"Do you... do you know why she left India in the first place?"
Pari's eyes shot up at him, and she suddenly became defensive. "It was a fresh start after our parents died."
"Is that what Geet told you?"
She observed him for the first time; really observed. It was becoming apparent that Johan knew more than he was letting on.
If there was one thing that was becoming evident to Pari, it was that her sister was a maze of secrets and hidden truths. As the reality started to become more distorted, her determination to uncover the mysteries grew further with resolve.
Pari set the coffee cup down, her eyes narrowed and locked onto his gaze - this time she leaned in.
"Let's play a game, shall we? I'll tell you what I know of Geet's past so far... but you have to reveal what you know first."
