well the background is punjabi-tamil yes but the stereotypes shown in chennai express have (thankfully) gone down. it's adapted from the novel Custody by Manju Kapur where the protagonist, Raman, has a bitter past and an ugly divorce and left with his child Ruhi to take care. And Ishita comes to his rescue by marrying him and becoming the mother to his child. Ishita too has a past of a broken engagement due to her not being able to conceive. A very mature lovestory with of course ekta masala twist. The story doesn't follow the novel just the backgound has been adopted. until now it has been enjoyable and different. Raman has been quite realistic and the story is relatable to today's lifestyle.

we went to 2 states. umm I dont know I wasn't impressed. but thank god no exaggerations of stereotypes! I wasn't quite liking the fact that they had to show a rebellious tamil brahmin engaging in pre-marital sex and non-vegetarian eating. I guess that has to be blamed on the original novel.
