Past

It was nearly 2 month since marriage and Maan seemed a bit disturbed. Pammi noticed him like this to a many times. Today she decided to talk to Maan abt the thing that was troubling him. As she neared Maan's room she could hear voices

Maan firse? How can you be so heartless? She heard Muskan's voice

Heartless ki koi bath nahi hai Muski pls don't overdo this. Maan said getting really tired.

I don't believe this. For the past one month you are sleeping with Vicky and you want me to be patient?

It is his exam and I am his elder brother. Can't you understand this at least?

Understand? No I don't kyoki meri bhi ek behen hai who is writing her 12^th you don't see me going and teaching her do you?

Muskan don't start this. Pammi could hear the anger in his voice

Why shouldn't I? aapke bhai dood pita baccha nahi hai. He can study on his own. Jab Dekho Bhai doubt hai ya pls Bhai I cannot understand this kehte aa jata hai. We are married for only 2 months for God sake. Par nahi how can I expect privacy from such a family. Muskan said in anger

Enough Maan yelled. Bohot ho gaya. It is my brother for god sake and I just want him to get more marks. Is me galti kya hai? You are just over doing everything. Why the hell can't you understand?

Why should i? Koi mujhe understand kartha hai yaha? No. sab apne me lage hai. Even Dev can help Vicky but no he is busy in his life. Why should I let you go when no one else is bothered abt Vicky or his exam?

You know what I don't care. Mujhe Vicky ko help karna jana hai and I'm leaving saying Maan left the room slamming the door on the way. Pammi hid from his view feeling embarrassed for eavesdropping on their conversation, but she was getting worried by Muskan's behaviour.

After 15 days.

The whole house was really happy as they were expecting Annie home. Annie was Yash's best friend's daughter also the apple of everyone's eye. She stayed with her parents in Canada and couldn't attend their marriage cos she had her exams.

As soon as Annie entered the house her eyes looked for Maan. Seeing him she ran towards him and hugged him. Bhai kese hai. She chirped

Teek hun choti. And you tell me how you are. Maan said after kissing her forehead. None in the house saw the disgusted face of Muskan who seemed to have an immediate hatred towards Annie.

After few minutes of mel milap. They went in for food and then rest.

Till now Maan helped Vicky regularly for his exams. With Annie here Maan spent his free time happily chatting with her. This was hated by Muskan. One day Pammi and Annie came to Maan's room asking him to plan for some outing.

Annie Dekho Vicky ki exam hai and I don't want him to lose focus. Maan said in a serious voice

Not fare Bhai Annie wined. Bhabhi you tell him no. She asked hopefully looking at Muskan.

But she just refused as she was angry with Maan.

Just then Annie's eyes fell on a beautiful necklace that Maan had got to pacify Muskan.

Wow yeh kitni acchi hai she screamed looking at it.

She wore it and stood before the mirror. How is it? I think mujhpe jajta hai... she said smiling. Maan too was smiling looking at the 17 year old who was lost in all this. But Pammi understood what Muskan was thinking. She could see Muskan's face turning furious. Before she could say anything Muskan stepped closer to Annie. This is mine. Aur remember to ask before you touch other's things ok Muskan snapped as she snatched the necklace from a shocked Annie.

I don't like to share my things aur ainda se kamre me under ane se pehle knock karna she warned as she placed the necklace inside her cupboard.

Annie's eyes stung with tears of humiliation. She quickly ran outside the room with Pammi behind her.

What the hell is wrong with you? Maan yelled at Muskan as soon as the other's left

Me ne kya kiya? Muskan asked innocently

Don't you dare Muskan. I had enough of your childishness. Wo bacchii hai

Bacchii? Huh she said with a smirk. I don't think so. Hamesha aape chipakthi rahti hai I don't like it at all.

Maan was shocked by her words. He dint understand what to say to her.

Now after this she won't behave like she owns you.. Muskan said as she turned around to leave but Maan caught her

You are mad you know that? How could you imagine such things abt a small innocent girl?

Small innocent girl? Oho... thab tho meri behen bhi small innocent girl hi hai na? Why were you looking at her like you'd eat her during our marriage? Muskan taunted.

Maan stood stunned by this. Muskan had seen his shameless deed and he immediately felt guilty and ashamed.

If you can do it to Geet tho why not with Annie? I ... but she was stopped

Shut up Muskan. Bohot ho gaya hai. Yeh Annie hai and she is like my sister. Maan retorted getting his voice back

Behen jesi hai behen nahi.. And god only knows what you do behind closed doors with you sister like Annie she said with venom

Maan had enough of all this. His hands raised to slap her when he heard his Dadi yell at him

MAAN! His Dadi yelled out

Immediately he realised what he was going to do.

Dadi.. he said, but he was stopped

Mafi mangiye unse. Dadi said in a strict voice

Par Dadi. Wo..

I don't want to hear anything Maan. Do it now nahi tho hum aapse kabhi bath nahi karenge Dadi warned him

Maan looked at Muskan and apologised half-heartedly. He then left the room feeling humiliated. Dadi followed him, leaving Muskan who had a winning smile on her lips.

In the study

Maan bete.. Dadi called as she followed a very upset Maan into the study.

Dadi how could you. Usne jo kaha hai I feel so bad. Maan said in a really hurt voice

I know. But aurath pe hath utana is not what I have taught you.

And what abt her Dadi? The venom she has for Annie is just unbearable. I cannot believe you would choose such a girl for me

Maan who told you I choose Muskan for you? Dadi asked Maan after a small gap of silence

Ma only told me and anyway that is not the point Maan said dismissing it

Hmm.. Anyway Maan jo hogaya hai you cannot change it. Please you need to adjust your ways for her. Dadi said

No Dadi I don't think it is possible. I am sick and tired of explaining things to her.

I know but shadi koi khel nahi hota bete. And every couple has to find ways to handle it. Muskan bohot insecure hai. You have to make her feel otherwise. Dadi explained keeping a hand on his shoulder.

But I don't know. Kuch bhi karo tho she takes it wrongly.

It happens. For now give her more importance Maan and see within few months she'll understand you very nicely. Use dikhao that you need her in your life aur wo tumare liye bohot important hai.

But I don't know kese start karoon. She is just so complicated

I know but you have to try. Then you see things will be better. Dadi said with a smile.

With a sigh Maan left to his room thinking of things he needed to do.

Present

Maan woke up with these memories. He had slept in a really uncomfortable position. He looked at the time and it was only 2 am. He looked at the side table to get himself a glass of water but found the jar empty. He got up from the bed and walked towards the girl's room as he remembered something. He had not felt her today. Though they stayed away he would always know her presence in that room. But today there was only silence. He couldn't sleep as he always made sure she was in her room and was well before he could let sleep get to him. He wondered if she had taken dinner. But then shook his head as he knew she wouldn't have. So he walked outside the bedroom to get her a glass of milk. This would be a good way to start talking he thought. He entered the dark kitchen and took milk in a pan. He gently warmed it and took the glass towards the girl's room.

He knocked it once but found no reply. He did it again and it had the same result. Something in him forced him to open the door. He did so and was shocked to see that the room was empty. He entered and switched on the light as the night light was dim. He remembered that he had put the night light here as she was scared of the dark. He placed the glass on the side table and walked towards the bed. It looked as though no one slept in it. He then moved towards the cupboards and opened it to see it was half empty. The cupboards contained all the expensive sari's she had. But all the normal wear things were missing. This really scared him. He quickly got up and moved out of the room towards Kushi's. He opened the door and the sight confirmed his fears. The room was empty and her suitcase that she had bought was also missing. With shaking hands he sat down on her bed not knowing what to do.
