I hope i'm carrying the essence of neelathamara. coz sometimes i feel i hv deviated too much. but i hope you understand when I say its not you who write the story but the story takes you with it. That is wat happening here. I didn't have any idea when you gave the idea or even when I started. 😳

PART 6

PAST

Maan walked towards the servant quarter. He was a bit hesitant you know to enter a girl's room like that. He didn't know what he would say to her but it felt important that he needed to meet her; maybe he would apologize for his rude behaviour. He felt nervous and it was a different kind of nervousness. He knocked at her door lightly. It wasn't locked and fell open. Geet was startled and terrified as she saw him and stepped back. Her eyes almost welled up.

Maan : rona mat Geet. Tumhe darne ki koi zarurat nhi he. Me..umm..wo me tumse maafi maangne aya hu.

Geet looked even more shocked. Maan felt embarrassed.

Maan : dekho upar mene jo kuch bhi bola mujhe nhi bolna chahiye tha. But I was worried about him.

Geet frowned. Maan realised that she didn't understand English.

Maan : Vicky ki chinta rehti he mujhe. Humare mom-dad bohat pehle guzar chuke the. Me to cheese samaj sakta tha. Dev, shayad kismat ne usey jaan puchkar utna lagaav nhi diya kisi se bhi. Isliye wo bhi theek he. Annie to bilkul bacchii thi tab. Lekin Vicky waisa nhi he. Usey mom-dad ke pyar ka ehsas tha lekin itni bhi samaj nhi thi ki unke jaaney ko accept kare. Usey unki kami mehsus hoti he, aj bhi. Me koshish karta hu lekin uski kami me kabhi pura nhi kar sakta.

Geet was really moved by Maan's words and the love that he had for his siblings. Though twelve Geet, had seen so much in her life that she understood exactly what Maan said. She had felt that vacuum when her dad left her. Seeing Maan she felt like her dad was there, a person his heart full of love in front of her. The love that she yearned for was there in his eyes. She felt something for him, respect she thought. Suddenly she felt it was her responsibility to comfort him. She would do anything to make him happy. Such a nice man deserved happiness and love.

Geet : me samaj sakti hu. Papa ke jaaney ke baad mujhe bhi aisey hi lagta tha.

Maan looked at her intently. This was the first ever time he ever heard her talk. And those first words stroke a chord with him.

Maan : aur tumhari ma?

Geet : Hoshiarpur me he

Maan : phir tum yeha...mera matlab he dadima ke sath kaise?

Geet : wo...m.. mere gharwale ma ko manakar meri shaadi karwa rhe the..

Maan felt angry suddenly. Someone else marrying her??

Geet : dadima ne dekha to shadi rokh li. Gharwalo ne mujhe wapas apnaney se mana kiya to wo mujhe apney sath le ayi.

Maan mently noted that he had to thank dadi for that while his rational mind slapped him for such thoughts. He wondered how she could talk so calmly about all this. As if reading his thoughts, Geet continued, " papaji ke janey ke baad mene dadima ki bato me wo pyar dekha he aur aj ap.."

Their eyes met at that time and they lost track of their conversation drowning into each other's eyes.

Mahiii...

Geet looked away slightly blushing.

Geet : umm..wo mera matlab he.. apko fikar karne ki zarurat nhi he. Me Vicky ka dhyaan rakhungi. Mera bhi bhai..ab se yehi mera pariwaar he. Vicky ki zindagi me kabhi pyar ki kami nhi hogi.

Maan was spell-bounded not by the fact that she had the maturity of speaking like that or by the meaning of her words but at himself for having blurted out his heart to her when he barely knew her. He quickly collected himself.

Maan : Geet, tumhe to school jaana than na? Aur tum ab tak tayar nhi hui. Jaldi karo me tumhe drop karunga aj.

Geet blushed looking anywhere at the room but him. Maan had to check mentally that he didn't accidently ask her out for a date.

Maan : kya hua? School hi to jaana he?

Geet : ji wo..mere paas kapde nhi he. Mera matlab he masi ne..pammy masi ne Annie ke kapde de to diye lekin wo chotey he. Ye pehenkar me bahar kaise jaungi?

Maan looked at her from top to bottom. She flushed even harder under his gaze. She was wearing a knee length frock definitely under-sized. Maan felt that strange pain again. His sister didn't wear a frock more than once, maximum thrice if it was her favourite and Geet doesn't even have proper clothes to wear.

Maan : Aj ke liye dekh lo. Sham ko tumhare liye naye kapde dilwata hu.

She looked at him thankfully.

Maan : ab jaldi tayar ho jao. Mera exam he.

Geet (nodded) : ji..Maan sahb

Maan : Maan Sir..bulao.

Geet : Maan sir?

Maan : humare college me juniors seniors ko sir bolte he. Tum choti ho na, to sir bolo.

Geet(smiled) : ok Maan sir

Maan sent a long white skirt of Annie for Geet. She looked like an angel as she came dressed up in a white blouse and the skirt that did well enough to cover her legs. Maan opened the door and waited for her to enter. She moved to the other side and stood there. Maan shook his head. He got into the car and opened the other door for her. Geet sat on the farthest corner of the car that even Maan was forced to think whether his feelings were that unconcealed.

When they reached the school, Geet got out of the car happily. She was about o run when Maan stopped, "suno Geet..me bhi saath me chalta hu"

Geet : lekin apki class to dusri school me he.

Maan : malum he. Aj pehla din he, to admission formalities hongey.

Geet : huh?

Maan : principal se milna he. Ab chalogi ya sawal hi karti rahogi..

Geet : sorry Maan sir.

The lady at the office was entering Geet's details. Geet was a bit scared by her rude nature.

Lady : naam batao apna, jaldi karo pura din nhi he mere paas

Geet : Geet(feebly)

Lady : arey pura naam batao. Ye bhi nhi ata kya? Itni badi ho gayi he..

Maan : She is Geet Khurana.

Geet looked at him surprised.

Geet : Maan sir.. lekin me

Maan : Geet tum ab humare ghar me ho, to tum bhi Khurana pariwaar ka hissa ho. Aj se tumhari nayi shuruwat he is naye naam se hi start karo.

Geet nodded her eyes sparkling great respect for this man, Maan sir!

PRESENT :

Maan went back to Delhi the same night. The entire Khurana mansion was in red alert mode because of his temper.

Maan (self-thot) : Dadima mujhe Geet ke barey me kuch nhi bata payegi ab me Geet ko kaise dhundu?? Adi ko call karta hu.

Adi : j..j.jiii Maan sir is time?

Maan : Adi last three days me Delhi me job hi international airlines aye he, I want their details.

Adi : S..S.Sir lekin kyu sir? Hum kya international airport banana w..w..wale he sir?

Maan : Adi! Tumse jitna kaha he utna karo.

Adi : y..yes sir.

Next day first thing that Maan checked was the passenger detail.

Maan : isme to kahi bhi Geet ka naam nhi he. How could I expect ki wo apney naam ka ticket karegi??? Chalaki to uski fitrat me he..

He banged his fist on the table.

Maan : Damn!! Where r u Geet? I will get you wherever you hide...(his eyes brightened suddenly)

Maan left KC and drove into the old streets of Chandni Chowk. He stopped in front of an old haweli.

Pammy was old but she knew her Maan baba with his footsteps.

Pammy : Maan baba, ap yeha?

Maan : ap kaisi he dai jaan?

Pammy : mujhe kya kami he? Ap log to mera dhyan rakhne me kabhi koi kami nhi chodi. Chotu ki bhi achi naukri he. Shaadi he uski 6 mahine me.

Maan : good. Dai jaan ap hume apna beta maanti he na?

Pammy : ye bhi koi puchne wali baat he?

Maan : to phir bataiye mujhe wo kaha he?

Pammy was shocked.

Pammy : hume maaf kar dijiye. Geet ko mene waada kiya he.

Maan : KYU? Is tarah har darwaze ko bandh karke kayaro ki tarah peeth dikha kar bhaagne me usey sharam nhi ayi?

Pammy : wo khudh se to nhi gayi na. Nikaala to ap logo ne hi tha usey apne zindagi se aur us ghar se. Phir ab kyu? Ab jab sab khatam hua he to kyu ap un purani bato ke peeche jar he ho?

Maan : kyu ki izzat usney meri uchali he. Sabke saamney sharminda me hua hu. Wo aur uska wo bin baap ka bacha!!!

Pammy : MAAN BABA!! Bas kijiye. Maana hum apkey naukar he lekin us bache ko apkey muh se to mat duhayi dijiye...

Maan : dai jaan nafrat he mujhe us Geet se judi kisi se bhi chahe wo uska bacha hi kyu na ho..

Pammy : humey nhi pata ki akhir sach kya he. Geet ko humney paal poskar bada kiya he. Aur hum us par is tarah ka inzaam kabhi nhi daal sakte.

Maan : aur me? Bina koi galti kiye me kyu sazaa bhugtu?

Pammy : hum ap dono ke beech me nhi bolna chahte. Lekin geet ka kehna he ki unka aur unki beti ka apkey zindagi se dur rehna hi acha he.

Maan : Geet kya sochti he ye mere liye koi maine nhi rakhta. Ap mujhe ye bataiye ki wo abhi kaha he? Apko meri kasam..

Pammy : Maan baba!! Ye kya keh diya? Mere bacho pe najaney kiski nazar lagi he? Mujhe maaf kar de Geet.

Maan : wo kaha he?

Pammy : New York me he. Kuch bade daftar me kaam karti he.

Maan was back in his office with a wicked smirk.

Adi came inside his office.

Adi : Sir, ye New York city ka sabse influential fashion magazine he, Pageant. Jiski chief editor he Mrs. Ramona Harold. Indian origin he unka but she has married an American. Thats why I probed a little bit more. And we got this.

He showed a file.

Maan read aloud : Ms. Geet Khurana

Chief-Editor Assisstant.

Adi Pageant ke important clients?

Adi : Dior, Gaultier, Hermis and the other major leagues.

Maan : hmmm...any new ones? Who is the designer they are grooming??

Adi : Richard Marker

Maan : hmm fix an appointment with this guy.

As Adi left,

Maan : Get ready Geet, Your life is going to be hell in a few weeks.
