Jhalak Dikh Laaja – A Prediction !
So I have been following the 6th season of Jhalak Dikh Laaja very closely every week. Definitely it has gotten bigger, better and more competitive as compared to previous seasons. I still remember when the first season of JDJ started in 2006, the only impressive dancer wasShweta Salve. Over time however, competition picked up with better choreographers and participants coming on board executing some amazing concepts.
My favourite winner across all seasons has to be Meiyang Chang of Season 4 – not because he was the best dancer but because he probably showed the maximum improvement. His personality won over me and his choreographer, Marischa Fernandez was probably the most creative of the lot!
Similarly after their stupendous performance at another dance reality show "Dance India Dance" – talents like Salman Khan, Puneet Pathak, Jai Kumar Nair and Alisha Singh got offered to join JDJ as choreographers. They raised the standards of JDJ with their expertise, aptitude and presentations.
Coming back to the season 6 of JDJ – (although I do feel it's a bit too early to predict anything), it's going to be a tough competition this year.
Season 6 contestants (as of 30 June 2013) include:
1) Sumanth and Sonali (India's Got Talent Season 4 Winners)
2) Siddharth Shukla (Popular TV Actor)
3) Aarti Chhabria (Bollywood Actress)
4) Shweta Tiwari (Popular TV Actress)
5) Karanvir Bohra (TV Actor)
6) Shaan (Award winning Singer)
7) Lauren Gottlieb (Dancer; So You Think You Can Dance finalist (U.S. season 3))
8) Drashti Dhami (Popular TV Actress)
While Sumanth, Sonali and Lauren are excellent (and also formally trained/professional) dancers, the "best dancers" of the season have strangely never won the JDJ titles. The winner is often chosen by the public and judges through a combination of elements like dance, popularity and entertainment factor.
The TV actors – Siddharth Shukla andKaranvir Bohra are very popular in their own ways but I do not foresee them winning the competition. Karan is a good dancer but this season, he has lots of competition. Sid is immensely popular but unfortunately when judging purely based on dance, he might just get eliminated soon. Shweta Tiwari too, hasn't really impressed much in the season as yet. Buzz is that in order to increase her chances of doing well on the series, she has gotten her original dance partner Sushant Pujari replaced. This week onwards, she will be seen performing with Savio Barnes instead. Yesterday was the first time Shweta performed with Savio and got bad scores once again. She gave lack of time as the primary excuse. Well, let's see how she performs next week.
I have a feeling that there will be a tough fight betweenDrashti Dhami and Shaan in this season. Drashti is paired up with Salman – their pairing has the perfect combination of entertainment, visually pleasing dance performances and popularity. Drashti has also shown remarkable improvement from her first performance. Shaan, on the other hand, has a huge fan following and has been surprising the audience with his consistent performance on JDJ. His choreographer, Marischa always comes up with something new which makes his performances interesting to watch. Honestly, I personally love Aarti Chhabria as well as I feel she has it all – expressions, dancing skills, talent but not sure about her fanbase!
My bet goes to Drashti & Shaan for season 6 but hey, little did I think that there would 7 wildcard entries in today's episode.

Well, not sure about the format as to how many wild card contestants will join the competition. But if rumours are to be believed, all 7 will be joining JDJ season 6. Now does that not mean season 6 starting all over again with 15 competing contestants? Mmmhh, it will be interesting to see how these wild card newbies give a steaming competition to the existing pairs. And who knows, the tables might just turn 360 degrees and the winner might just be someone we least expect.

The ongoing season of Colors' Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa (BBC Worldwide Productions) is being watched by one and all for the super-cool and classy performances that contestants deliver week after week. Pragati Mehta who is a big fan of the dance reality series however, is a bit disappointed with the comments coming from the judges of the show.
What is it that irks the lady? We decided to find out after we read a certain tweet by the actress on the show. "Drashti's performance was beautiful, but the judges going ga ga over her choreographer Salman Yusuff is strange. It's 'dancing with the stars' nothing abt the teacher."
Pragati went on to explain her thoughts saying, "In a recent episode Remo D'Souza told Drasthi Dhami's choreographer Salman Yusuff Khan that he was back with a bang (referring to his last year's performance). I thought that this BBC Worldwide production show was supposed to be the journey of a non-dancer learning the craft of dancing. Undoubtedly, the choreographer is good and there is no doubt about that. But by praising the professional dancer or pointing to his flaws, you seem to be taking away the hard work put in by the protge. This is like saying that the star is only as good or as or bad as his guru."
"They need to focus on the developing skills of the celebrities; Drashti was superb in the episode. Don't get me wrong; I am not saying don't give credit to the choreographer, but it is like if I go to school and work hard under the guidance of a good teacher, does it mean that I will become a best student only because of my teacher? And do you mean to say, if he/she was not as good, I will not reach where I deserve to be? If a choreographer comes to an acting show with me and the judges there say Pragati is good, I will say I have to be good and that is my job," the actress added.
Pragati also added that the original concept of Dancing With The Stars (of which Jhalak is an adaptation) is based only on core dancing (Samba, Salsa and Jive etc). "I thought it may be repetitive, but it shows the learning skills of the contestants. But out here, we add a lot of drama as we are emotional people. There are also lots of lifts which is not real dance, but simple add-ons to the performance," the self-confessed good party dancer exclaimed.
