Hey Minal! Sorry, I havn't been able to keep up to date with the updates, my life is turned upside down now a days :( ! But I'm catching up..slowly!
Just read part 34... you're awesome! I love how their realizing what they mean to each other. It's beautifully written!!
I can't wait for Maan to return back home! ;)And when she called Rohan, and she couldn't talk, it broke my heart..all she had to do was say hello? :(Thank you Minal for the lovely updates!!
Vicky, Meera and Dadi stood in the doorway watching her pack her bags. Each wondered what in the world could have happened to make her do such a thing.
"Beta, what are you doing?" Dadi questioned moving closer. But there came no reply, she only continued stuffing all her clothes into the bag. Vicky and Meera shrugged their shoulders when Dadi turned to them with an exasperated questioning expression.
It was relatively rare that she was ever so quiet so when she was it definitely wasn't a good sign. After forcefully zipping the overflowing bag she made her way past each of them and down the stairs dragging the heavy bag as it was too big for her to carry.
Each of them followed out in single file then practically ran in fear she'd run off god knows where. Luckily, they found her standing at the patio exit with her arms crossed and foot tapping impatiently.
"I'm leaving. If you need to reach me, I'll be next door." She said with her signature pout. Dadi looked at her utterly confused.
"Next door? Piyu beta, what are you talking about?"
"Why is everyone so clueless!? I'm going to go live with Geet and Dad next door!"
Dadi's forehead crinkled in confusion, "Beta you know Dad doesn't live there. He's just visiting Geet because she's not feeling well."
Piyu shook her head. "No Dadi he does! I went to see Geet this morning and he was asleep there." She crossed her arms and scrunched her nose adding this to the list of things she couldn't do but her Dad could. "Dadi it's not fair! Dad always gets to have fun. I want to have a sleepover with Geet too!"
Dadi's eyes widened, while Meera slapped her hand to her mouth to stop from bursting out laughing whereas Vicky simply bursted in a fit. Dadi couldn't believe kids these days. Moreover, she couldn't believe the adults these days! Dadi glared at Vicky before turning to Piyu but she and her bag both were gone.
"Where in the world…I can't believe this child…!" Quickly Dadi walked out following the path to Meera and Geet's house with a hysterical Meera and Vicky in tow. They all quickly made their way to Geet's room knowing she would run straight there.
Not surprisingly she was there in the bed having snuggled herself in between Maan and Geet who were peacefully asleep until this interruption. Maan began to twitch from Piyu's movement and shifted to accommodate space but quickly realized his surroundings were different. He lazily sat up blinking his eyes wondering if he was seeing straight.
Was that really Dadi standing in front of him with Meera and Vicky hysterically laughing in the background or was this all a dream? A light kick from his left and the words move Dad caused him to turn his head and realize this was his very own twisted reality.
"Piyu! What are you doing here?" Maan questioned in confusion.
Recognizing that tone and the disgruntled face on her Dad's face Piyu frowned. "I just wanted to come live you guys because I missed you." She said quietly with a full puppy face.
"Forget Piyu, what are you doing here Maan?" Dadi questioned with a raised eyebrow and accusatory finger.
As things finally began to make sense, Maan rubbed his face and groaned at his own stupidity for falling asleep here. "Dadi seriously? I just came to see Geet." He said trying to cover up the fact he'd been there all night. He quickly got off the bed but not before seeing a slight upward turn to Geet's lips. His eyes narrowed at her, so she was pretending to be asleep and found it amusing did she. I'll get her back, he promised her silently.
Dadi rolled her eyes at him wondering why he attempted to lie when he knew he didn't know how to. Vicky still having a hard time controlling his laughter couldn't help but embarrass him more, "Bro, how long have you been here that you fell asleep while seeing Geet?"
Maan glared at him and muttered something under his breath. But before Maan could have the honor of strangling him Dadi gave Vicky a stern look saying watch it. She turned to Maan, "Actually, his point is legitimate Maan. Exactly how long have you been here?"
His eyes wandered to anywhere and everywhere but her face. "I…not that long…just…ahh…"
Dadi shook her head with an angry expression but inside was smiling ear to ear seeing for herself how concerned and caring he had become towards another soul after so long. "How could you do such a thing Maan?"
There were few times in Maan's life when he heard his Dadi's voice so commanding and it kind of frightened him. He would've understood if this was Dev but it was him…did she really not trust him?
Dadi had to bit the inside of her cheek to stop from laughing seeing Maan's face, which had the expression of the classic hand caught in the cookie jar. It was absolutely priceless but realizing they were having too much fun at his expense Dadi decided to ease up on him. "You know she's sick! Why were you disrupting her rest?"
"I wasn't…well…" Maan couldn't fathom why he was the lucky one to get stuck ridiculously embarrassing situations. Suddenly seeing the way out of this Maan's face took on a smug expression. "Wait a minute…what are all of you doing here? Aren't you all disrupting her too?"
"Please Maan, don't try to turn this around on us!" Meera simpered.
Maan shook his head at her still slightly grinning then turned to Dadi, "All I'm saying is that it's a little like the whole kettle calling the pot black thing." And with that Maan then gleefully strut out the room before any of them could mortify him further.
Vicky being the smartass that he is ran after him not wanting this amusing conversation to end, "Actually Bro…you got it backwards. It's the pot that calls the kettle black." It shouldn't be surprising that instead of a thank you for the correction Vicky got a smack to the head.
With two children gone, Dadi glanced at the bed where the third laid playing with Geet's hair in absolute fascination. She shook her head smiling, "Piyu, if you want to live with Geet you will have to take a bath."
Piyu frowned, "But Dadi…"
Meera quickly stepped in knowing how she could bait her out of the room, "She's right Piyu or else you'll miss out on our sleepover party where we play games and eat gooey marshmallow s'mores! Don't you want to be there?"
If one hadn't realized, marshmallows are Piyu's weakness and that word was more than enough to get her moving. Dadi blinked her eyes in appreciation towards Meera who ran right after a now bath eager Piyu.
Turning her attention back to Geet, Dadi smiled warmly. She knew Geet was not only awake but equally if not more mortified than Maan with what had just unfolded. Slowly making her way to Geet's side she sat down, "I know you're wide awake Beta."
Geet let of a deep breath wishing that everyone would go away and let her pretend this didn't happen but alas. She threw back the covers and sat up against the headboard. Folding her hands together Geet began fidgeting with her fingers while staring at them intensely.
Seeing this Dadi couldn't help but be amused and decided not to torture her. "You know Geet there was a time when I was your age. I remember very well what it's like to be young and in…"
Geet inadvertently looked up at her slightly frightened. Did she know how she felt? What was she thinking about her after this morning? What if she didn't like her anymore? Her eyes quickly welled and she stuttered, "Dadi trust me…Maan only came to see me…I mean nothing…"
Dadi shook her head, "Geet there is no need to explain anything to me. It's really none of my business and I do trust you both, I just enjoy pulling his leg. The chances aren't abundant you know." She smiled affectionately and held her hand. "The past few days have been rough I know so I haven't had an opportunity to speak with you but there was something I wanted to let you know."
Geet's forehead furrowed in concern but Dadi reassured her. "No, no it's nothing to get worried about. I only wanted to thank you for all the happiness you've given me. By bringing my Maan back, you have no idea how big of a load you've taken off my shoulders." Her eyes glistened with happy tears, "I never thought I'd see him feel again let alone love."
Geet leaned forward and wiped the tear that rolled down her cheek. "Oh Dadi, I didn't do anything. If there is a will, there is a way, and Maan had the will."
"But what good was his will without you to show him the way Geet?" Dadi kissed her forehead and hugged her tightly. "Your heart is too good to accept any credit but I know without you, he would still be the same cold and distant Maan."
Geet gazed down at her neck and began to finger the pendant Maan gave her. She stared at it with a glorious smile gracing her face. "Without him I'd probably be lost and distant too. He's given me so much hope and encouragement that I truly don't know what I would've done without him during all of this."
Dadi reflected back to the day when she first met Geet. Her beautiful face was forlorn and eyes hopeless but most heart wrenching were her defeated words. "Do you remember what I told you the first day we met Geet?"
A quizzical expression took over Geet's face before shaking her head not recalling anything. Dadi patted her cheek lovingly. "Everything happens for a reason."
I've been sick and flooded with exams so excuse the delay this time around. Also, pms will be sent later since I'm in a bit of a hurry! :)
