The lots of questions were pondering in my mind.
I have to find the answers before the questions burst my mind.
Ever since Maan got married I did not go to his room, it is what mother's do, they don't enter their married son's room.
His room was quite different from what it used to be, the 3 walls were painted baby pink, while the wall on which the bed rested was orange, as far as I remember the walls used to be white, and I don't remember if in these last 10 years the room was painted, maybe Geet painted it.
Curtains that adorned the French windows were multilayered ones, with 3 different shades matching the walls; the ends were trimmed with lace.
The almirha again had shades matching the walls and the curtains.
It was a surprise for me, every object in the room shouted Geet, I opened the Almirha, it was neatly stacked with not stitched clothes, but with materials apparel designers used, fabrics, threads, embroidery books, laces, mirrors, satin ribbons, elastic strips, buttons and so on and so forth.
It seemed that Geet has never gone anywhere, she was just here and anytime she would call.
I was shocked, I stepped in the dressing room, I opened the closet, it was again neat and contained both Maan and Geet's dresses, and the other one also had mixed dresses. There was no separate closet.
I looked at the dressing mirror, it was a full length mirror, as far as I remember Maan had no mirror in his dressing room, then, my eyes went to the drawers; I opened them, they were full of female accessories, from lipstick to face cream to ear rings to bangles to armlets to bracelets to perfumes to bindis to Sindoor box and so many other things. The only thing that belonged to Maan was the roll brush and a menz perfume bottle.
I went to the study room; there too I found Geet's things, a fashion designer sewing machine, a shelf stacked with her books, a drafting board, drawing sheet, canvas stand, paints, colors, brushes, canvases, and so many other things one can find in a designer's study. It looked as if Maan occupied only a small corner of that room, which had a laptop, a desktop and few file cabinets plus a study table.
Everything about the room set shouted Geet; she was there in each and every thing. Maan in last 3 & year has not tried to remove her from there. She still was there in that room.
The way she was everywhere here, maybe she was in his heart and mind and maybe also soul. Things started dawning on me. May be Maan loves Geet, maybe he has always been in love with her? but then why did he not ever express this to me? Why?
Am I that bad that my son has to hide from me that he loves his legally wedded wife? Where have I gone wrong? I was not able to understand anything.
I went to my room and sat down thinking.
Nakul knocked my room,
SD: yes
N: Madam, Dev sir and NT madam have come.
SD: what?
N: yes, they have gone to their room to freshen
SD: tell Maan, and arrange for high tea
N: Dev Sir wants to talk to you, while NT madam will take rest
SD: ok, send him here and bring the high tea also.
I thought why Dev was here, with informing, and why does he want to talk to me, I don't remember the last time we talked
Dev came in, he never knocked my door, he simply comes and sits.
D: how are you?
SD: fine! What brings you here all the way from Canada?
D: I had to talk to you
SD: talk!
D: yes
SD: about what?
D: bro
SD: Maan!
D: yes
SD: what's there to talk about him? or shall I understand that Maan has called you to talk to me?
D: bro never says anything, which is the whole point
SD: you want to talk about what?
D: Mom, will you ever realize what you are doing?
SD: I am doing what?
D: this divorce, why did you let it happen?
SD: what can I do in this? it was Geet's wish, she did not want to live with Maan
D: Mom, she wants to live with bro, but she has been sick of you
SD: (angry) she said that?
D: no, everyone knows that, even bro knows why she left, she was not able o cope up with your I am the perfect attitude, she was sick of the fact that her husband treated her like he treated her
SD (very angry): are you out of your mind? You are blaming me for what wrong she did; it is not my mistake that Maan does not love her. He loves his mother. It is not my fault that she can't love him enough.
D: who said that he doesn't love her? Who said she did not love him?
SD: I could see that clearly, he ignored her, he never talked to her
D: Mom that was I front of you
SD: what?
D: he did not want to hurt you. You were responsible for the fact that Sameera broke her engagement.
SD (red with anger): Dev! You are crossing your limits!
D: you know Mom, Bro knew that Sameera left him because of you
SD (turned pale)
D: he did not want to you to feel jealous of his wife, so he ignored her, to make you believe that he does not love her
SD (turned paler)
Dev stood up and went away saying, "now mom make amends, bring her back before bro breaks down, Nakul told me you have been to their room, and I think you have understood her importance in his life"
