OS-For you, a thousand times over...
She had had enough. She would make it very clear that she would not take any more of this. She could not be forced to do things the way he was forcing her too. Geet was sitting in her room, and she was angry, very angry.
Agreed that it was Karvachauth. Agreed that she was fasting, but that by no means implied that she was incapable of doing any work on her own.
"Dusht Danav!", she muttered to herself aloud amidst loads of muttering that she had being doing for the past hour now. First, he fought with her last night, trying to convince her that Karva Chauth was an unnecessary ritual and that she need not fast for him. She had a hard time convincing him to let her do it as she had full faith on it and would do anything for his long life.
After a lot of pleading and coaxing, he had agreed to let her fast, but on certain conditions that he refused to reveal. Seeing no other way out, she had agreed, thinking what could be the worst condition he would impose since he had promised he would make no attempts to feed her or to get her to eat till the time the moon had risen and she had completed all the rituals.
Seems like she had underestimated her husband.
He had just about managed to irritate her out of her skin by now, and there was still almost half the day left for the moon to show up. First he had woken up before her for the sargai and had observed like a hawk as she ate at 5 in the morning, forcing her to eat considerably more than what she would have on her own.
It hadn't ended there!
After such a heavy round of food so early in the morning, they had gone to bed, thinking of waking up in a couple of hours in time for them to leave for office. But, he had left for office-ALONE! He hadn't even woken her up. The light sleeper that she was, she had a hard time believing how she didn't wake up on her usual time, or even when he must have gotten ready! He must have been extremely silent.
"Mr. perfectionist", she muttered again, wondering if he ever failed at doing something he wanted to. At that thought, she chided herself for thinking that way and prayed to her Babaji to grant him success in whatever he ever wanted to do.
"Par Babaji! Aap kabhi-kabhi meri bhi side le liya karo na!! Kabhi toh mujhe bhi jeetne do na unse", she spoke to her Babaji in her usual complaining way.
His "conditions" hadn't ended there!!
No!
He had instructed Dadima to not allow Geet to come to office saying, she needn't stress herself. She was supposed to stay home and rest. As if she would be happier without him. She pouted missing him terribly.
The only solace she had was the fact that he would call her up every hour, if only to enquire about her well-being. As if she would faint of not eating for a day.
She shook her head at his care for her as a smile lit-up her face thinking of his love for her. She had called-up Pinki to chat with her as she was getting bored at home only to have her inform Geet that MK had been very distracted, scolding everyone without any reason.
Geet was about to blow her fuse off hearing this when Pinki said, "But, we all know the reason for his behavior so we don't mind"
Geet was thoroughly embarrassed and stuttered, "W…What reason haan?"
Pinki just laughed and said, "Bholi mat ban Geet!! We all know its your first Karva Chauth after wedding and you are fasting so Maan sir is worried. Do you know he even granted a half-day leave to all married women staff. So sweet of Jiju!"
Geet couldn't help but feel proud of her husband, and thank her stars for such a loving husband.
Having nothing better to do and having been barred from doing any work by Maan, who had left his detectives behind, Geet decided to take a nap.
She woke up 3 hours later and was informed by nakul that Maan had indeed come home an hour after she fell asleep. Since then, he had been busy in his study. Since, Geet was getting late for the Karva Chauth Pooja and as she was slightly annoyed at Maan for over-doing things, she just got ready in a hurry and left for the Poojan. She did however wear the saree and jewellery that Maan had sent for her with Dadima. After all, it was for HIM that she was fasting.
The pooja had run late. The Panditaani had been late and there were just too many ladies, so the Pooja had taken a lot of time but it was a great experience nonetheless. By the time Geet reached home, it was almost 8 and the moon was supposed to be coming soon. Feeling hungry and missing Maan terribly by now, having stayed away from him through the day, geet eagerly made her way into KM. She found all the things that she needed to break her fast were ready, waiting for her on the table. She was also informed by Nakul that Maan was already waiting for her at the terrace.
She quickly checked her make-up wanting to look her best for her Maan, her jhootha gussa already forgotten, and made her way upstairs to the terrace. The terrace was beautifully lit with lights and diyas and Maan was standing there-waiting for her. She just went there and hugged him silently, needing no words to convey anything-feeling his love in his gestures and trying to pour her own in the hug. With the kiss that he placed on her forehead, she knew that he understood her silence.
Finally the moon came and she did all the rituals with dadima's guidance who had joined them just as the moon was about to come. As Maan made her break her fast through water and fed her sweets, Dadima told Geet that Maan had also fasted for her. Though somewhere down she knew he wouldn't eat if she didn't, yet the confirmation just overwhelmed her with his love for her.
They made their way to the dining table and Geet was not surprised to see that all the dishes were her favorite. As they sat down to eat, Geet had the craving for pickle and not finding it on the table, she was about to go get it when Maan tried going himself. Geet noticed he looked slightly nervous for some reason at the prospect of her going into the kitchen. She silenced him with a stern glare and entered the kitchen. She looked around but everything seemed fine to her. Just as she was about to leave with the achaar, her eyes fell on a few dishes that were huddled in a corner besides the refrigerator.
She checked them only to find slightly disfigured version of the same dishes that were laid outside on the table. Okay! Slightly would be an understatement-the dishes looked quite disfigured but with the papers that she found beneath them, which were recipes of the same printed from the internet, with noted scribbled in the familiar hand-writing of her husband, she couldn't hold back the tears that fell from her eyes. He had fasted with her, taken care of her, and even tried to cook for her.
What did she do to deserve a man like him for herself?
Lost in her thoughts she didn't notice when the object of her attention had come in the kitchen after she hadn't come back in 5 minutes. He found her holding his attempt at cooking with tears in her eyes and he instantly felt guilty for having made her cry. He went to her and she looked up. Before he could open his mouth to apologize, she just put the vessels away and jumped into his arms repeating "I love you!" over and over. He just held her and repeated the words to her, not understanding the reason for her behavior.
After a while, when she had calmed down, she let go of him and wordlessly picked up the dishes and took them to the table. When he tried stopping her saying the food was spoilt, but she simply said, "This is the best food I could ever eat as you prepared it and I would not trade it for anything in the world".
He was left speechless. They fed each other and went to bed, each praying for a 100 more lifetimes worth of togetherness.
