Fear. It normally has one common definition, to fear someone or in this situation, to fear your coming life. This day only brought fear for one' All members of the household were celebrating this auspicious day, but one feared it. Being a young adult, not much of age, it was typical. The mother would call it positive 'beychaini' or in normal everyday language it would be called the emotional journey of a young girl. She looked at herself through the mirror waiting for destiny to play its cards. Who thought you would ever grow up to see a day like this, which would depend on your life's biggest decision
YES
Or...
NO
The Sabherwal Haweli was decorated as for a wedding for example or a royal occasion that was too sacred for this very household. The head of the household, Aadesh Narayan Sabherwal, was commanding the servants of the household to take care of all the preparations and not to hold back on anything, as he was the happiest man in the household' all thanks to one person. The lady of the household, Devika Aadesh Narayan Sabherwal, was a simple woman' nothing complicated or too simple about this woman. But, her name DEVIKA did mean 'little goddess' and these traits of her holy name reflected on one person in this tightly folded household.
One little member of the household, Sarika, chided that someone had arrived. She kept awareness of the household activities hence her name's meaning 'parrot'. If one did not keep awareness, then who would? The street's little children came running to the front door of the Sabherwal Household parroting that 'Wo aagaye!'
Those three syllables of those words struck through one pair of ears' What will happen when they will meet? She sat clueless with her back resting on the wall behind her almost waiting for the time to come near.**********************************************************************************************************
The Khurana's stepped into the small yet warm house of the Sabherwal's and were intrigued by every member' Aadesh, Devika and the cute Sarika who was only in her teens but pleased all members of the Khurana Family, despite being a little chatterbox she is. Next to step in the house was Mohit Singh Khurana, the youngest Khurana in his teens who was automatically irritated by the parroting nature of the young Sabherwal child. Next came in the overly possessive, Aaliya Singh Khurana, who was a bit overly keen to find out who her knew Bhabhi, oh sorry! Bhabhi-to-be was' She too automatically found this little parrot incredibly annoying, so Mohit and Aaliya plotted against poor little Sarika who was just interested in seeing her future brother-in-law. Neelam Singh Khurana, the mother of the two devils grabbed them both by their ears and warned them to behave, as it was an important day for their eldest brother and their families. Udayveer Singh Khurana, who was most curious to see his future daughter-in-law, had his sight glued on the flight of stairs above, waiting for her arrival'
Lastly, Maan walked in. He was not expecting much from this 'Vivah' or this 'rishta' his parents put forward to him. He did not want to say no to his parents too, so came along not hoping for much. As a token of respect, he kneeled down and took his blessings from the Sabherwal elders and came in the living room and sat down with the rest of the two families, waiting for her arrival...
As a good 'Saali Saheba', Sarika offered drinks to his Jijaji and his estranged brother and sister, whom she tried to impress in one go, but as them being Khurana's, she had to impress them highly.
Maan smirked at the little Sabherwal's behaviour, one moment she is happy and chirpy and the next she is angry and fuming!
God, please iski behan aise nahoye!
He chided inside his mind whilst sipping his drink, curious about the whole proposal today.
Sarika was giggling at her future brother-in-law. Maan studied her carefully' she was pretty but maybe not as much as her older sister, to whom possibly he will be tying the holy knot with in marriage. But, he did not set his hopes up that high to think he would get married to her. He just wanted to see her and run off as he had work pending in the Construction and Architectural Firm.
Play this song: Do Anjaane Ajnabi - Vivah 2006
Music
"Geet didi! They are here! Jaldi se neeche aane ki tayaari karo! Jijaji is waiting just for you' You know he has his eyes glued on the staircase just for you!" her giggles and laugher echoed through the room. Well, one was excited. The other was nervous. She stood there draped in a red sari, with no makeup or jewels on since the morning.
"Geet didi, what is this? You have just worn your sari? Where are the jewels Mama gave you in the morning? Didi! You have not even worn your makeup yet? Oh, I get it! You are going all au-naturale for Jijaji downstairs, so he would fall for you even more!!" She kept on chirping on and on to her sister but Geet was not registering anything her little sister was going on about.
Geet was looking around her room just in her sari, like she was going to see it for the last time in her life! She felt as if she will leave her house today and go to her 'Saajan's' house for forever and ever.
Sarika helped her sister draped her ghoonghat around her head and kissed her forehead, admiring her beautiful sister. Sarika and Geet are different at nature, but their bond as sisters remains unbreakable. Sarika is the chirpy and lively one of the Sabherwal Girls' and Geet is the quiet yet wise elder one of the Sabherwal Girls'.
Do anjaane ajnabi chale bandhane bandhan
Sarika helped Geet in her final preparations before going down and meeting her 'future-in-laws'' Geet simply went across the hallway upstairs without no touch ups or anything' just purely GEET. Sarika was a source of motivation as Geet was silent since the morning of this day; she did not speak to anyone at all.
Maan was too in the same position as Geet. He is not the type of person who would openly confess his refusal for seeing Geet today. He used his silence as a way of dealing with this situation. He thought that it was better not to speak and stir up the situation further.
Maan only saw half of the picture of Geet, which only revealed her almonds eyes, which spoke deeply to him before hand, but Geet did not see a picture of Maan before hand' It seemed that these two had full faith in their parent's choice and would not want to upset them by denying their choice.
Haye re dil mein hai ye uljhan
Oh my! Confusion in hearts
Geet stopped halfway through and looked at Sarika who was confused at her sister's behaviour. What she did not know is that her sister was going through an emotional turmoil and she needed full support of her sister all day today to help her get through this awkward meeting. Sarika somehow understood that her sister was reluctant to go downstairs and meet Maan, but she consoled her through her eye movement that everything will be fine and nothing would happen which would be bad for her or their family. Geet automatically hugged her sister and kept hold for a few minutes. Sarika caressed her hand on her back to comfort her not on the outside but within, to steady her emotional plight that she was having all due to this little meeting with a certain someone. Sarika kissed her sister cheek to show her her love for her sister. Geet somehow managed to give a small smile to her sister, who meant the world to her.
Milkar kyaa bole kyaa bole kyaa bole re milkar kyaa bole
What to say when we meet?
Geet felt empty at feet and just realised in the confusion she was in today that she forgot to wear her Grandmother's Payal which she remembered recalling before her passing away, she always told her to wear these on days she feels most lonely as a symbol of remembrance. Geet ran back in her room and fished through her jewellery box to find her Grandmother's Payal, which she kept with utmost care. She slipped them in on each of her ankles, making her sound more audible and more melodious. Sarika loved her sister's actions; She loved the fact that her sister would never forget wearing those Payal's. She remembered her sister telling her that she loves these Payal's as she feels that their Grandmother is still with them and that her Grandmother's blessing are forever with her and her family at all times.
Nayi umang, Nayi khushi, mehak uthaa hai aangan
There is new happiness, new excitement, courtyard is lively again
Whenever she hears the melody of the Payal's, she feels as if a new source of happiness is entering their house and is coming their way. She almost felt that her remembering to wear these Payal's was a good sign from above that this series of unfortunate events was turning into fortunate events and will bring happiness to their families and their upcoming lives. She almost felt that this proposal that has come forth, is not actually a bad proposal as she was thinking early on in the day.
Haye re ghar aaye man bhaavan
My beloved has come home
She thought for a moment, the possible future she could have with her future husband.
POSITIVE ' She could live her life to the fullest with this ideal life partner, which was found by her lovely Papaji. Her Papaji, without no doubt loved her slightly more that Sarika as he knew that her time of going was near, so wanted to be at closest with her before she leaves the house and ventures into her new house with her newly established family. She wants her husband to admire her all the time and not fight with her. Well, a little 'knok-jhok' was permitted but not real ruthana! She did not really care what her future husband looked like' Well, he should be a bit handsome she chided within. But, she wanted to just be with him always' forever and ever.
NEGATIVE ' She could disagree to this proposal and possibly never find another proposal ever again! If she disagrees, she would be ruined? Babaji, yeh hume kya ho ra hai' Agar na kardiya so kardiya' koi Maha-Bhaharat nahi hojaiye gi! For once she did not consider denying the proposal!
So There was no ideal negative to help her deny this proposal at all!!
Milkar kyaa bole? Kyaa bole, kyaa bole re milkar kyaa bole?
What to say when we meet?
Sarika gestured her to come with her but Geet was nowhere to listen. She sat on her bed caressing her ankles and closing her eyes wishing that her Grandmother would signal her the right way, as she was completely lost.
Her Grandmother appeared in her vision and she signalled her to go and not to be afraid, as now she needs to take her wise decisions like a fully-grown woman does. Her Grandmother wished her full success for her new venture to be set downstairs. But yet, she was still scared to go as she was unaware what awaited her downstairs.
Baichaini betaabi aaj mujhe ye kaisi
What kind of restlessness, eagerness engulfs me?
Maan was still waiting for her arrival. Not that, he wanted to marry or what not. But, he wanted to see her and actually see this 'Geet' that his parents have regarded best for him to marry. His stomach was churning with nervousness. He was thinking' Is she worth the wait?
He kept looking at the staircase and kept his ears on the conversation of the adults. They seemed overwhelmed by the Sabherwal Family hostility. Maan looked around and saw that Sarika, Mohit nor Aaliya was with them anymore. He asked his family members on their whereabouts and they signalled that they went upstairs possibly Geet se milne those three words stirred in his heart. He managed to maintain a straight face and went upstairs excusing himself, to find his two siblings.
Aaj hai jo peheli na thi dil ki haalat aisi
Condition of heart today was never experienced before
He climbed the stairs swiftly and called out his sibling's names but they were nowhere to be seen. He carefully registered their house and found it quite cutely and close knit together. He eventually found his two little demons in someone's bedroom. He indicated for them to come out the room and in one swift motion they ran out grabbing Sarika too and locking the room from the outside, leaving THEM in.
Ankhon ko usika intazar hai
My eyes await her
He nervously looked around to see a fearful girl draped in a simple, yet elegant attire, facing away from him. She clutched the ends of her pallu fearing his next step. Maan went to the door and knocked a few times' he heard their giggles and laughter'
"Jijaji, didi would not come out of the room so we planned you guys meeting like this. Jijaji, be careful with my sister, she is very scared about today's situation!" with that Sarika went with Mohit and Aaliya showing them the rest of the house.
Unhike liye ye roop shrigaar hai
For him is this beautification
Dekhi hai tasvir hi aaj milenge darshan
I have seen her picture only, today I will see face-to-face
Geet still faced the wall and constantly prayed under her breath, scared of the whole situation of having Maan in the same room as her.
Haye re badh ne lagi hai uljan
My nervousness is increasing
Their heartbeats were loud and audible for them to hear. One thing the two did not realise is that they had such a deep effect on each other. Maan was trying to say something but her innocence was just killing him' He pretended to be least interested in the whole marriage alliance situation and sat at her dressing table stool and started texting away on his Blackberry on business matters/issues.
Geet did not seem to budge from her position' She felt as if an enigma has awoken in her and that she would burst any moment sooner if they carried on being in the same room.
If she had such an effect with him in the same room but metres apart' what would happen if they were married?
Milkar kyaa bole? Kyaa bole, kyaa bole re milkar kyaa bole?
What to say when we meet?
Just then his phone rang and he answered it one ring' it was from his father asking him about his whereabouts. Mohit, Aaliya, Maan and Sarika seemed to be missing. He ensured to his father that they were just coming and that they will not be that long as they were looking around the house. Geet smirked at his answers. His voice sounded sexy and unique! Without looking at him, she was feeling something for him with great deepness..!!
Geet decided to look at him for once, but was still scared.
"Wo... Papaji ka phone ta... he wants us all down, including you too" He said reluctantly. He added "He wanted me to bring you downstairs to meet everyone' but do not worry I will not force you as they say your wish is my command" he added smartly. Geet giggled at his words. For the fist time he heard her laughter. He felt happy and yet less nervous by hearing her laughter and being the cause of her smile.
Roop ki raani aayi hai jaise gaganse utarake
Queen of beauties has come from sky
She bravely turned around and met with his eyes!
He initially was dumbstruck at her beauty' how could someone look so simple yet so beautiful? She had her cute pallu draped over her head which added to her innocence and beauty.
He gaped at her making her uneasy. He inched closer towards her. Geet moved back involuntarily leaving them too just centimetres away.
He drank in her innocent beauty and captured it into his alluring eyes. For a moment, Geet did not feel uneasy, as she knew that his looks were not lustful but were full with the utmost care that only some men have. Geet stumbled at her feet breaking the eye lock between the two but bringing the two into each other's arms.
Mere liye, kyaa mere liye aise sajake savarake?
Has she decorated herself just for me?
He wondered that she especially got dressed just for him? Someone would actually do that for him? He felt so special as God had send him his most special gift to him' GEET!
He felt foolish to regard this rishta as any other marriage alliance, he now regarded it as the sign from the Almighty himself that Maan and Geet were meant to be!!
Sabse chupaake, idhar udhar se mujhako hi dekhe chor najarase
Shying from others, from here or there, he stealthily looks at me
He raised her up and looked at her with his loving eyes. They both gave a sweet smile full with contentment. At that moment Sarika, Mohit and Aaliya along with the rest of the household came into the room to see the two lovebirds gaping at each other with immense trust and love.
Baat labon par hai ruki tejh dilon ki dhadakan
Words have stuck on my lips, heartbeats are faster
They looked from side to side pretending that they were not gaping at each other like that at their very first meeting. Maan's dad questioned him why he was here in this room and added that they went to see around the house he added teasingly!
Maan blushed at his father's words but gave him a whole-hearted hug, which he too could not deny.
"Maan bete, how do you find my daughter?" Aadesh added with her smirk' "Haan ya N..." Maan cut him off and said Haan before her father could go the other way. They laughed with love at his answer and fed him mithai.
"Aap sab ne didi se nahi pucha, yeh haan kareingi to baat hogaye pakki" Sarika said with a teasing tune. Mohit began to like Sarika; she was a mini duplicate of his bhabhi!
Haye re kal ke sajani saajan
Tomorrows would be bride and groom
Geet too accepted the marriage alliance and hugged her mother with a bright red face. Geet thoughtfully went up to her mother-in-law and touched her feet to seek blessings and hugged her, addressing her as Mama for the first time. Neelam's eyes welled up in tears as her daughter-in-law was so caring towards everyone there. She went up to her father-in-law and touched his feet too, but he stopped her and hugged her tightly addressing her as Meri Beti which surprisingly did not caused an element of jealousy in Aaliya. She addressed him as Papaji, which sounded cute from her' Maan smiled widely at his newly founded to be wife and her careful behaviour, which made him fall for her even more.
Milkar kyaa bole? Kyaa bole, kyaa bole re milkar kyaa bole?
What to say when we meet?
Maan realised that they did not actually speak to each other. Everyone settled off to have dinner while Maan excused himself making this excuse of a phone call and went up to Geet's room. She blushed profusely when she realised that he was in her room... AGAIN!
"Surprise!" Maan said as he pulled out a diamond ring from his pocket. Geet's eyes filled up with tears of joy as Maan slipped the ring into her finger...
"Maan..." she whispered as he hauled her into his chest and sealed her lips for a breath-taking eternal kiss..
