I was saying the same thing to my mom last Sunday when JWM was aired on SONY. The only couple I can remember having great on & off screen chemistry were Richard Burton & Liz Taylor (though they had a very romantic & troublesome relationship.)
I agree with you 100 per cent. I dont know if you've watched 'Friends'. In that one of the characters (Chandler) is seeing a stage actress and asks his room mate (Joey) who is also an actor how to tell if his girl friend is having a relationship with her co-star? Joey asks him how is her chemistry with the co-star to which Chandler responds that it is great. Joey then tells him that he has nothing to worry because if they are in a relationship, their chemistry would have sucked. Chandler is happy hearing this. After a few days, he goes to see her performance and feels that her chemistry with the same co-star has diminished and accuses her of cheating on him. She gets angry and asks him on what basis he is making the allegation to which he says that he has observed that she no longer looks hot on stage with the co-star. The woman would be furious that he not only accused her of cheating on him but also said that her acting was not up to the mark and she dumps him.In the hindi films, one couple who exemplified this whole off-screen and on-screen chemistry theory was Kareena-Shahid. They had acted in a few films when they were seeing each other and their chemistry was not that good but they were extremely good together in 'Jab we met' when they had already broken up.

Coming to Maaneet when i saw the precap i remembered their scenes we got in feb where they used to fight infront of dadi n then they do romance chori chori chupke chupke,hope now also we get such lovely maaneet scenes
