Maaneet and Food: Punjabi vs Pasta :)

So we all know and agree that Geet and Maan have always been connected by water. But after seeing today's promo, it occurred to me that food plays an equal part in their relationship! While water represents with all the big, abstract aspects of their relationship like truth and purity, food has often symbolised the more real and difficult aspects that they have to deal with in being together, and the compromises that they have to make. It symbolises their differences while water symbolises their unity.

Here is a list of a few times, where food has played an important role in their relationship, or has just been part of an incredibly sweet moment between them. I personally have loved all their food-related romance so enjoy some of my favourite food-moments and their symbolism!

Kurban Hua
How can we forget that we got this amazing moment and dance sequence because Sasha/Tasha had switched the catering from continental to samosas and kachoris? To me this symbolises that no matter how much Geet tries to change, her innate desiness comes to the fore, and as much as Maan tries to hate her for it, he just can't!

Dhaba Scene
This whole little story was so quintessentially Maaneet! Each one took up the challenge of eating something they hated, just to prove that they could, it seemed, but underneath there was a compromise and an effort of each to compromise their own comfort for the other. Geet insisted that she would eat the Italian dish despite the fact that it completely disgusted her, and Maan ate chili after chili, despite the fact that it caused him a huge amount of pain! The lassi that Geet feeds him represents the fact that she is a soothing factor in a situation that would normally be intolerable to him.

Pasta/Toothpaste in the Outhouse

Maan makes pasta in the outhouse when Geet finds no ingredients with which to cook. She pretends to be disgusted but ends up eating it with relish.

Ok so I know toothpaste isn't strictly food, but it tastes good and you put it in your mouth, plus the moment is relevant so I am throwing it in. Geet is once again a soothing influence on Maan, although in a way he didn't necessarily believe would work. Geet is the home-remedy for Maan's broken heart! LOL

So both of them are trying to deny their gradual acceptance of the other but are slowly and subconsciously giving in.

Engagement ring hidden in the cake!
Buried feelings anyone?

----After Marriage----

Maan brings all the street-food to KM
This was just the sweetest thing! It showed how Maan was completely concerned with Geet and her pregnancy and made sure she got everything she wanted! Too bad they lost the baby 10 mins later 😭

Maan makes gol-guppe for Geet in Amritsar
This showed how Maan knows Geet better than anyone else! Even though she is angry with him, he finds ways to express his love. Delicious food speaks louder than words and it was so sweet of Maan to do this. It showed he wasn't only concerned with her forgiving him, but also with her being healthy and happy, with or without him.

Geet and Maan eat apples
I loved this scene in the Rohtak house! It was so sweet the way they were enjoying even the difficult circumstances they find themselves in. This moment was symbolic of all that was to come in the short track, that is, Maan unable to provide for Geet in the way he thinks he should, being afraid that Geet would not be able to handle this, but with her cheerfulness, she makes this a happy and romantic moment for both of them!

Geet makes Maan coffee, and he likes it!
This was the first sign we got after ML that Maan is starting to appreciate Geet's presence in his life. From the promo to the execution of this scene, I loved the subtle interactions that were happening beneath the dialogues!

These are some of my favourites, though I know there are many more. Come to think of it, food is a pretty important aspect of GHSP.

What are your favourite food-related, Maaneet moments?

One of My favorite food scene was the "Apnoki juta ka saktena? Bol na Geet?"☺️ Loved that scene.. hope Maan does something like that now since it will fit in so well with the circumstances that exists now:-)

And about the symbolism... hmmm not to sure... I will leave it up to you..

Don't judge me for being an inferior fan, 😛 but I am drawing a complete blank as to when that dialogue happened. I seem to be suffering from ML like Maan! Could you please jog my memory??

Hmm...food for thought.😆

Great connections with food...for the first time in a show, the food analogy contributes towards romance...it's almost like an emotional aphrodisiac!

It's amazing how something as simple and yet, as vital, should contribute so immensely towards cementing their relationship.

I remember a lighter moment..remember the time Maan made that mushroom omelette for Geet which she pretended to eat in front of him and actually hated every morsel?

She was pregnant at that time and that's the worst time to eat something you can't stand!

But the poor girl laboured on and shovelled the stuff in mouthfuls, smiling all the time.

She must have done a pretty convincing job too, because Maan looked very happy and extremely pleased with himself.

That was some sacrifice Geet made in the name of love.

Of course, it was an entirely different matter that she spat it out later and left the plate in the kitchen for Maan to find!
What ensued was even funnier...the gol gappa scene outside the office where she pretended to burp to assure him that she'd eaten all the omellete.

I can't remember if he got her the gol gappas in the end, though.

Talking about gol gappas..didn't Maan put aside his reluctance during that honeymoon bus ride to have those street walllah gol gappas with her?

Beautiful analogies of give and take through food.

Thanks for the post, samana.

It is an unusual and deep take on their relationship!

HAHA.. sure babe... when Geet is busy trying to find a girl for Maan.. and she cribs about how he is making her work day and night without food... Maan has Nakul prepare food for her in the "old" outhouse"... she asks him to join and he takes a bite out of her plate...

Hai...😳 and then he wipes food off her cheek.. ever so slowly☺️ hope at least this jolted your memory🤣

Samana,

I think that happened when she was living in the outhouse and he made her work so hard that she didn't have time to cook.

She came back home to find the table filled with food and Nakul sort of let the cat out of the bag by saying Maan had ordered it for from the main house.

It was one of the most romantic Maaneet moments when Maan took the food from her jhoota plate and ate a morsel.

Yes, I love how they have used food. It is always there, and even as viewers we take it for granted, but it has been very cleverly used to bring out the aspects of difference, understanding and compromise in their relationship. We forget, because their love is so strong that they are two very different people who have some serious differences in opinion and taste. The food brings that out subtly without compromising the strength of their love.

You know at first that scene was on the list, but it just got too overwhelming! Once I started listing them the list went on and on. Much of the differences in their personalities have been brought out through food, as well as, eventually, their deep knowledge of each other. There is also the scene where she makes chocolate mousse, the scene where Meera gives her chocolate for courage, the scene where Maan eats the driver-food, given to him ungraciously by Lachi, even though he hates it...I eventually got so tired trying to keep track of all the moments that I just stuck with the first few I could remember for the post!
😛

Yes, and she trotted off behind the cart, usurped it from the owner and started making her own concoction for Maan! That was adorable!

Beautiful analogies of give and take through food.

Thanks for the post, samana.
Thanks for your reply and the additional moments that you added with interpretation.

It is an unusual and deep take on their relationship!
Thanks!

I remember that scene and loved it! I guess I just didn't remember the dialogue.

Aw, and that to me was when Maan was ready to accept Geet "just the way she was", so to speak, and not enforce his ideas, or food, on her. And then when she offered him some, he took it, meaning he was ready to let her make him happy, perhaps not in the ideal way he had imagined someone making him happy, but in her own special desi-flavoured way!

How's that? Too much? 😆
