One year back, GHSP was on the top. The TRPs were great. The show was perfect!! Everyone used to wait with bated breath for 9.30 so as to watch the show.

One year later, GHSP is going down. The TRPs are falling. The show is shaking. Everyone is saying that the show is shutting shop.

What happened in the last one year that resulted in this?

Earlier, it was Maaneet. It was Gurti. It was GC and DD. Now it is MSK is suffering more or Geet is suffering more. Now it is GC vs DD. Who is a better actor?

All we have to talk about the show is what is wrong. Not what is right. Why can't we be positive about the show? When the show started, it reached epic heights because the makers had a vision in mind. They had a story in mind. They did as they visioned and it was beautiful. We did not have a FB page for Geet. We did not have interviews on SBS or SBS. We did not have any articles about the show. GHSP spoke for itself. It kept the audience hooked with the brilliance never before seen on Indian Television.

Slowly the audience started interfering with the maker's visions giving ideas and their views on the tracks being shown. There was demand for spoilers. There was demand for leads' interviews. There was demand for stories to be changed as per audience demand. And the makers gave into such demands and the show turned out to be "many cooks spoil the broth" kind.

For those who fight about which one of the leads is better, I would like to ask them just one question. Try and imagine the show without one of the leads and then you will know the answer.

For those who are saying that the CVs are themselves killing the show, I would like to ask them one question. GHSP is a cash cow for the PH and the channel. There are hundreds of people who are dependent on the show for their lives. Is the PH stupid to be killing its own show thats generating so much of money. Until the show is on air, everybody talks about the PH. After the show is done, nobody will bother. So why would they commit suicide?

The actors and just acting their parts in the show. They have a personal life aside from the show. How they deal with it is their own choice. None of us have the right to dictate that to them. If we don't like to know what happens in their personal lives, let us not give it the attention. Nobody is forcing it down our throats. Not everybody deals with their relations alike. Some people display their affection publicly. Some of them tend to be private. We cannot comment on how they lead their lives or how they should lead their lives and with whom.

These are actors who spend nearly 16 hours a day trying to give us a show that we so adore. Don't they deserve a bit of respect from us fans? Intruding into their lives on a daily basis can be so suffocating for them. They are humans too with emotions and feelings. Why can't we just understand that?? Just because they come on our TV screens five days a week does not give us a right to dictate terms to them.

Yes, the show has lost its past flavor. There are some characters and some tracks which we are not liking. But as true GHSP fans, we need to support the show. That doesn't mean we take any crap thrown at us. We need to criticize not bash. Constructive criticism is good as long as it does not take the form of bashing or dictating terms. Let us get together as one to stand beside the makers so that the show will reach its past glory.

And for those who think there is nothing new to see in GHSP, maybe its time to look at greener pastures instead of spreading negativity in the forum.

At this point of time, what GC, DD, PH and the creatives need is an united GHSP audience wiling to be patient and give time to fix the issues. And as true GHSP fans, we need to do that with understanding, compassion and hope.

I am sorry if I sound preaching. Just my thoughts.

- Always a GHSP fan

I agree...I have been wanting to say this for a long time, just had no clue how to say it. Thank you for posting this. As a true GHSP Fan I will stand by the team as long as the show goes on. Which I hope is for really long time. We need to come together and make GHSP #1

The people who really matter to the TRP are the real people who watches the show on TV...I am sure 90% of them may not even know about IF or FB page or actor bashing or anything in the virtual world. So i do not agree that the online activities have done any grave harm to the show in terms of TRP!! For that matter anything actors do in cyber world also should not matter!!!

An interesting story line or innovative presentation of old wine in new bottle is what will hold a show together. From a long time GHSP has been lacking both!! Every new track gave hope but ended up being a disappointment.

If anyone has to be blamed for GHSP's downfall, it has to be PH for not retaining their directors and CVs and inconsistency in the story line, channel for its editing and interferences...
The online viewers demands might have influenced many of CVs decisions, but after a point they stopped considering it, starting from AA and Dev!!! Thats exactly from when GHSP started becoming paraya to everyone... In Geet's case CVs used and abused the FB with the zillion spoiler pics!!!!

I do agree that all the cyber bashing will affect the viewing experience of fans like us..but how much does we matter interms of TRP??? And seriously if the show was interesting wouldnt we have continue watching not matter what!!!!

I generally, for any show, do not agree with blaming virtual media fans for the downfall of TRPs (atleast in Indian telly) ... Majority of them them are NRIs and they do not contribute to TRPs!! PH and CVs are the captain of the ship and they have to take the ownership for the success and failure of their show!!!

One thing I have noticed in many forums is that fans tend to blame themselves or fellow fans for falling of a show , i understand the loyalty sentiments behind this!! But the at the end of the day fans are the customers and they have evry right to demand the value for their time from the show like any other consumer product (sorry for being a materialist moron)!!

PS: I think I should stop commenting on CVs, it might irk some people...😉Just couldnt help but feel bad for one of my all time favourite show!! I will just go back to "dont see..dont care" self 😆!! No more comments on the show from me!!😊

Good post. Your points are valid.

However, i also agree with what Rolzz said. much of the hangama is in the cyber world, a place unknown to most Indians.

The PH/and cvs cater mainly to the Trp-generating audiences of which we are not.

But having said that, we have no right to dictate terms and conditions to anyone, especially the actors...who have the right to live and be with the ones they choose to be with...herein lies the main problem...the inability to separate the reel from the real.

Another, thing I agree with you is about criticism...unfortunately, any and every comment is seen as bashing these days and one is scared to speak one's mind...kind of defeats the purpose of this being a 'discussion' forum when we have to walk on the proverbial egg shells.

The show has taken a dive mainly due to poor storylines and a huge and continuous turnover of the crew..which sort of creates utter confusion as Barry Dhillon himself has hinted.

Loved ur thoughts...specially loved the lines about taking out one of the lead characters/actors, and alo that one abt personal lives of the actors and them having seperate ways of showing it...Positivity is something which this forum wants now and is solely lacking at times...
and i second with Pip, not everyone comes to the net to se what others think abt the show after watching it. And if they would have retained half of the successful writers and directors, then maybe there would have been a seperate story to tell...
But i still love my GHSp and am always ready to see a ray of sunshine with every dawn, specially for my Maaneet.

Great post and very well written! I agree that the only people that negativity, gossip and rumours are going to hurt is us fans. Like @Rolzz said, it does not adversely effect TRPs when we bash or become divided but only hurts our own viewing experience.

To elaborate on the the dip in the story, more than fan-feedback, I think it has a lot to do with the fact that they got the leads married so "early on" in the show. Indian serials are of two types, ones where two people are in love and struggle to get married and ones where two people who don't love each other get married and then fall in love. I think Geet is one of the first shows to have the marriage not be the final culmination of the epic struggle of the lead pair, which was a huge risk in the first place. On top of that, I have a feeling the original story was only really conceptualised till their marriage and 'happy ending' that they were left with the question of what now? after the marriage.

The change in writers right at this point did not help anything and I think they floundered for a while with the pregnancy track, honeymoon, until they hit upon Dev's return. This was also problematic as the actor was new and carried very little resemblance to the original Dev so we had to reconcile a new face to a new attitude to a new storyline which made it doubly hard.

During the Amritsar track I really felt like they were playing it by ear, from episode to episode, rather than conceptualising a solid storyline. It was only after the bankruptcy track started that I felt a powerful direction for the show, which was again completely thrown when the ML came along. I was just beginning to make peace with this when they re-introduced Jugnu. What the show is lacking now, is focus. They have two great potential tracks, Dev's mystery friend and Maaneet memory loss, all other characters should be woven into these two plots instead of each having their own exclusive stories, which detract from the main plots. Daadi+Tandon = Good (they are helping Maaneet have quality time), Pinky+Adi=Good (they form a part of the office setting and provide humour), Dev+Nandini = Middling (but only after the intro of mystery girl, before that they were in their own happy bubble), Lucky +Mama = unnecessary (what are they contributing except slapstick comedy? But I am willing to give this question a few more episodes).

Woah, sorry I kind of went off on a tangent there, but just my little take on that elusive 'lack' I think many feel about the show now.

Awesome post, hats off to u, really we needed this post after a long time, great analysis, i completely agree with each and every word u said, well done, we need to be united and give support to GHSP and our Gurti, they need us most now, so as a true loyal fan of Gurti and GHSP, we need to give them support and also give them a chance to fix the problems and I am pretty sure that CVs will never make us feel bad and make us give them another chance, as they have always entertained us in someway or another and they will defintely succeed in their mission, hats off to CVs and our Gurti, Gurti are and will continue to be THE BEST, and GHSP simply ROCKS :)
