Forum activities are factored in the system and that is the main reason Geet is currently at #4. But today you may disagree but TRP wise the show is not doing great. As a fan for Geet show I can understand that it can be upsetting. But in the long run if we are able to make the industry follow these ratings to read the pulse of the average tv audience we will have to make changes to the system so that the industry also do take these ratings seriously.

why is IF running...
is it reflecting the worldwide view...or the industry view...
you are talking abt industry taking the ratings seriously...
do you understand that trps do not include viewership outside india...
and IF was the only place where ppl frm around the world found relief that they can contribute to the shows popularity...
i am really disappointed to say that the sole purpose of uniting the worldwide audience has gone down the drain...
IF is an online portal...if you really think you need to include trps then probably IF need to be a part of Tata sky or some dth service and not an online portal...
trps themselves do injustice to shows on different channels..
i am sure you are aware that only a few channels are aired across india and rest are aired only regional basis...
shows are good but still do not get trp...
but the IF rankings always kept us running and enthusiastic abt our shows...
but if this as well will take the that way than i think...there is no point in discussing..giving our views...consensus or anything as it will not be seen in correct light...
i kindly request you to think once that is bringing in trp element a very good option and if you really want to include it then the wieghtage can be worked on.. as per now we are seeing rating is very much affected by trps and the weightage in the algorithm is high...
but IF being an online portal i kindly request to keep online activity weightage high and include trps as well but it should not be the main thing...
i hope i am not sounding offensive or condescending..
this is sumthing i strongly feel and kindly request you to ponder over it...

First and foremost rule of conducting a survey is that your sample size must reflect the universe...
This hardly happens when TRPs & GRPs are calculated.
India's population is over 1.21 billion... After this another important factor is: out of this how many homes have TV sets & how many have cable/dth connection.
Next question is about the reach of every channel.
The reach of every channel is different. For example reach of Doordarshan is widest in India around 90%... star plus & sony too have more reach than their sister channels.
Another point which should be considered while conducting a survey is the language of the region which plays an important role when the language of the channel doesn't match the language of the particular region.
The company which conducts the survey (TAM media) has not disclosed the methodology of conducting a survey. It doesn't mean that they should reveal the names & location of the households. Instead it means that they should reveal that how many peoplometers have been installed in every region.
Another factor which can also play a major role in such a survey is the education level of the families, occupation and habits of tv viewing (which are affected by other factors as well including the native language of a person & income levels).
Education level because many of the middle class don't like to watch hindi or language dramas... instead they prefer watching english or movie channels or Nat geo or discovery.
Occupation also affects the habit of television viewing... its not that one member of your family likes to watch a show, then whole family would like to watch it.
Till now we don't know the exact mechanism of calculating the TRPs & without making the details public one can not judge the accuracy of the system.
Age & language factor
Now a days every channel is trying to cater to the audience of different age groups & language. So we have shows which target audience of 5-14, 15-30, 30 +
Language of the region also matters a lot so one single channel is trying to include the shows which can entertain different regions like north India (Bihar, U.P, etc), Gujarat, Bengal, etc. (These days more and more Gujarati shows are coming up.
So to conduct a survey all these factors should be included & considered well.
In this situation anyone can understand that how difficult it is to conduct a survey every week. The survey company is doing a commendable job yet it doesn't reflect the real situation.
Now coming to the online popularity of any show.
Only the people having an Internet connection can add to the online popularity of the show... so the reach & penetration of the Internet connection also matters... There are lot of people who watch a particular show on TV but don't come to internet & vice versa... so here lies the actual problem... & that is why I'm against this decision of including TRPs & GRPs in calculating the popularity here on this forum. I'm also asking the question that how ethical & appropriate it is to include TRPs & GRPs in the survey of an online portal.
