She is very angry with Maan Singh Khurana who, according to her, has ruined Geet's life. We spoke to Beeji aka Janhvi Sangwan to get to know her a little better.
Describe Beeji as a character…
I am very strict, as I am the head of the family as well as the head of the village, whose verdict is considered the gospel. I am a straightforward person, especially with my family, and I demand discipline from them. For me, family pride is very important, and I have to make sure my children don't cross the line and bring down the family's reputation.
How will your character evolve in the show?
There is a lot behind the facade of this stern Beeji. As the show progresses, audiences will see Beeji's emotional side. There will be a transformation in her demeanour, which you should watch out for.
How does it feel to be a part of Geet?
It feels great to be part of such a successful show. The cast is new, yet the production house makes me feel at home.
What do you like about Geet, your niece ?
After a prolonged period of time, my niece Geet has come to my place, but she is not happy with her marital life. I like Geet; she is caring and understanding, but she has a lot going on in her life. Now that she has come to my place, I will take very good care of her.
What advice would you give Geet?
It's very sad to see Geet in this condition, but I want her to stay at my house, to be very happy, and to not worry about the future. I just want to advice her to take good care of herself, as her health is deteriorating.
How do you get along with the cast of your show?
Everyone on the show is very jovial. It's nice to work with Tej Puttar, Lucky, Pammi - my daughter-in-law, and Geet. It is great to have amazing actors to work with, who are incredible human beings too. On the sets, we have a lot of masti and dhamaal.
What would you say about Geet's current situation?
Everyone has to go through pain in this life, and I know she has seen many disasters. But life still goes on. I have advised the family not to talk about her past, especially her miscarriage. She should be able to move on in life and fight life's battles bravely.
What are your thoughts on being the matriarch of a family in today's world?
Nowadays, in some Punjabi families, there are strong and stern women. It may be difficult for men to accept it, and it also affects relationships in the family. But if we want to keep our family in check, there has to be one strong-headed individual in the family, who will not cave in to pressure.
How will you keep an eye on Maan Singh Khurana, who has come to Amritsar?
I don't like Maan Singh Khurana. I have told Tej to keep an eye on him, as he has ruined Geet's life. I am not going to forgive Maan and his family.
The show started with the social topic about jilted marriages in Punjab, and there are many cases which have come to the fore wherein the brides are cheated by the prospective grooms and their families, who claim to be NRIs. What kind of action do you think should be taken against them? What precautions should one take before finalizing such an alliance?
It's very sad to know that such things are still going in Punjab. I think it is the fault of the parents, who fail to check on the groom and his family. These parents should cross-check the identity of the groom and his nature as, after all, they are responsible for their daughter's future.
Don't forget to watch the strict but loving Beeji in Geet-Hui Sabse Parayi every Monday to Saturday at 9.30 PM, only on STAR One.
