In Defense of Maan and Geet

It hurts me deeply that people blame Geet for the black Friday fiasco without understanding her properly. It equally hurts me when people want to hold Maan responsible on why he did not anticipate and avoid this, especially him being super intelligent. Today, I will dedicate my post to share my points of view in defense of both Maan and Geet. My intention is not to force my points of view on anyone, but to present with a different perspective that may enrich your thoughts. You are most welcome to disagree with any point I make, and I promise not to stretch the argument, if any, beyond this post.

In Defense of Geet:

She was in disbelief about the happiness finally entering her life, especially that which has alluded her at every mode of her life. She entered the mansion in expectation of giving her assent to their marriage. But, she ended up hearing words uttered from his mouth that have shaken her to the very core because she has never expected such words to ever come out of his mouth. We, viewers, know that what she heard was only part of a conversation, which in its entirety is the exact opposite of what she heard and understood, but for her, the words she heard were the only truth known to her. Even then, she gives him a benefit of doubt thinking that she might have heard them out of context, but then she came face to face with the culprit who destroyed the innocence of her life, who alienated her from her family, who gave her multiple scars that can never be fully healed, and who left her alone to fend for herself. The very moment she got the confirmation of Maan's involvement in his bail fiasco, she lost all her senses, and all her old insecurities reared their ugly head. There is no love that is greater than a mother's love for her child, and there is no trust greater than that exists between a child and his/her loving father. When such father and mother have forsaken her in her biggest need and broke her trust, and when the husband that she so blindly trusted could break that trust by abandoning her and her unborn child, why can a brother who deeply adored his sibling can not break her trust and help his own brother at her expense. Such must have been her thoughts. She reacted exactly the way he told his grandma she will react if he truly harbored any such intentions. It is ironic and unfortunate that she was privy to only that part of the conversation. Had she overheard the complete conversation or if she has heard those partial words uttered by anyone other than him, she wouldn't have given them any weightage. But now, in her eyes, he has fallen from the pedestal of honor and respect where she placed and venerated him earlier. She became a victim of her own insecurities and circumstances, and she traded words with him publicly, which have started an avalanche of passions and emotions that have not only ripped them apart & almost destroyed them, but also subjected them to public ridicule and defamation. Sticks and stones break bones, but words often break relationships, and the relationship between them almost came to an end.

In Defense of Maan:

Maan is not super intelligent. He may be smart and intelligent, but he is no God or superman. He never once doubted Geet's love and trust in him, and that is why he never suspected that she can misunderstand him. Only when she accosted him with the question " answer me Yes or No whether you bailed Dev?", he realized she misunderstood.

He gets home after a near fatal accident, hears a life-shattering truth, and makes a decision that rips his family because he abides by his principles to stand up for the truth, and the immediate next day he wakes up to discover the press bent on sensationalizing every part of their story, tries his best to save Geet from the press, in between gets a call and goes to visit his Daadi only to find out that she suffered a heart attack. So many traumatic things one after the other will not leave room for anyone to think from all possible angles. Besides, he got the bail for only 2hrs. It is not as if he is rescuing his brother from punishment. Why should he feel guilty about this act? He never faced Geet directly while talking to her, did not get to see her face, and hence, never suspected there is anything wrong going on. It is apparent in his asking her in a light-hearted manner "sharmaarahi ho Ya Koi Nayi shararat hai". When he received the call from Adi telling him that BOD is worried about the company owing to the press attention, he understands the importance of such a meeting and goes for it.

He NEVER once suspected that she can misunderstand him especially after the strong bond of love that they professed for each other. Basically, his blind trust in her understanding, his having gone through so many traumas one after the other, and the lack of having enough time to retrospect properly in-between one demanding situation to another are the real reasons for him NOT anticipating this.

When she questioned him, he understood the insecurity she felt by getting to know about the bail, but he never suspected and never knew that her conviction was based on his own words. That is why he tried to stop her to explain to her about the circumstances under which he assisted with the bail, but to no avail. But then, his motives for marriage got questioned and he allowed his passions and emotions to run unchecked. For no fault of his, he was held responsible, given nefarious motives, and stripped of his honor, dignity, integrity, and social standing. All he ever did was to love and care for her. He believed in her, and shared her burdens. He stood with her when there was no one else. He defended her at his own expense. In spite of all this, she questioned him why he wanted to marry her, and that broke his heart and left him with deep anguish and bitter memories to deal with.

Conclusion

Both of them are responsible in their own way for the outcome of this epic clash of their egos, passions, emotions, and half-truths, but both of them are blameless at the same time.

Well-written and well analysed.
I would definitely say they were both to blame.
Geet didn't handle the situation well by blurting out all sorts of things to the media. However, Maan's handling of the situation was still worse IMO. I just don't think it's ever right to lash out on a girl like that the way he did. Geet seemed more angry at the way Maan was treating her than she was when she found out that Maan supposedly bailed Dev out of jail.

None of the handled the situation well or for that matter rose above it all and apologised when they needed to but for some reason I was more disappointed with the way Maan treated Geet. Maybe I have more sympathy for her due to her condition.

But it's all in the past now and I think I can safely say for now that there are no misunderstandings between them.😊

hindu4lyf: I respect your POV. When I said they are blameless, what I actually meant was that they are responsible for their actions/reactions, but their intentions and motives are blameless. Also, please note that this analysis is only for the events on the 'Horror' Friday.

Well-written. Thanks Sri.

Yes, I felt a bit more for Maan because he worships the ground she walks on. No one has the power to hurt him as she can, and did. His lashing out at her was a direct consequence to her questioning his love for her.

Having said that, I do understand the maze of confusion she was in owing to her previous trust issues and her shock on seeing Dev. As she herself said, the circumstances were such that they clouded her voice of reason and she couldn't distinguish between right and wrong.

But her heartfelt apology to him made up for it, like I knew it would.

It was a painful phase. But it is OVER. The bottom line is that they can't live without each other.
As Maan said, come what may, they'll always find ways to be together.
