Everything you says make sense but you seem to forget one very important thing..

Money makes the world go round! ;) Lower TRP's mean less profit, less money for advertising etc. I'm sure they acknowledge the fact that so many people watch Geet online (including myself) but they do not make any money from people watching the show online. You may have noticed that a month or two ago I think the GHSP team were removing videos from YT too, probably in an attempt to increase the tv viewership.

Star One needs to cash in on the internet viewership.

Agreed. When searching for today's Geet's episode online, I noticed that yesterday's epi already has over 12,000 views. 12,000 views on average in the space of less than 24 hours really isn't that bad at all. Your suggestion of cashing in on the advertising isn't such a bad idea at all!

I couldnt believe are your sure they just prepare TRP just based on 8000 samples???

How can only 8000 samples represents a shows actual popularity?

There can be huge partiality if they do that and specially if they sample takes from rural areas as rural people dont like youth based shows. The channel can also influence to get high trp.

Is there any other rating system other than TRP that covers both online and offline?

thats right...TRP is calculated from 8000-1000 samples where they have set up box......Thats sad but thats true,,,,,there are other method of TRP calculation...like frequency of channel...but I dont think they use that in INDia

And BDgt...Its hig time...Starone start catering online viewers....when online sponshorship is going high..They are still relying on TV Trp....

Bri Jaan - Thanks for making this post. 🤗

Gone are the days when each medium was independent. We have the internet wherein most of the stuff seems to happen. The channels and the makers of the show need to utilise it. TRPs need to be gathered not just based on 8000 samples, but also on the popularity of the show online.

Why not have a streaming medium on the Geet FB page which has so many fans already? Having a 5 second ad at the beginning of a stream by a sponsor would not in any way affect the actual content. And the site could market the sponsors. You don't have to loud and bold to be noticed, you just need to be heard.

And for Star One another problem is that the channel itself is a paid channel in some places. That also hurts the viewership. This has to be addressed first. Why make it a pay channel? Why not have easy access to it like Star Plus, Zee, Sony etc?

@Gouri: You are right, the channel should consider streaming without recording enabled and beam advertisements in between.

@wolum: currently there is none to my reckoning

@hindu4lyf: Sorry I did not get you, you mean to say that I do not understand that money makes the world go round?? Well, to clarify nowhere was that even implied or mentioned.

MONEY is the DRIVER but lower TRPs do NOT NECESSARILY mean the SHOW IS NOT successful OR that TRPs are a reflection of the ADVERTISEMENT SPOT reaching its target audience and market studies are there to prove this.

A show like "Saathiya" that has high TRPs does not even have too many Ad. spots, so how does that make for advertisement revenue to the CHANNEL and how does that become a profit making proposition for the channel? And why aren't advertisers flocking to air their spots in that segment?

@kuls11: Absolutely!! They need to really invest in their audience right now and realize that TRPs is NOT everything.

I am really surprised how the show Sathia managed such amount of TRP as none of my friends even heard about that show. The lead actor actress are not even very impressive neither the story is attractive. Similarly I have observed few episodes of Ye Rishta but very boring and as usual KEKTA style drama with high decoration. But I dont know which people are watching those show?

But there should be some way to define show's actual popularity which would count all categories of audience not just rural one. Otherwise the storyline affects badly by low trp and sometime the show maker makes some unnecessary and unrealistic change to bring back trp.

As for example I want to mention one of my all time favorite show RISTA.COM which was stopped due to the low trp but all of my friends watched that show but still no TRP so the show stopped. Similarly there are lots of shows which although dont have good trp but I think they have maximum number of viewers. But the TRP maker dont count those audience.

I agree we should do something so that the trp maker can realize that the way they are making trp its wrong and never reflects the actual popularity of a show.

TAM/INTAM does not take more than these 7000-8000 homes into consideration, so if some production house buys even 200 homes, they get to rule the chart right?
