I am amazed by some reactions today regarding todays sequence saying it was not enough, or verry fast paced.
while I agree it was fast, I also think that there couldnt have been any other way that could have given credence to the true sketch of these characters.
I'll explain my POV:
-- Maan already knew everything about Geets past. Every sordid detail. Just the name of the perpetrator had remained.
---- He also knew Dev was in debt but had managed to clear it off mysteriously. He had even asked him about it in some very early episodes but Dev had dodged the question.
So why would Maan ask, why he did it. He already knew why.
--- When geet tells him( an amazing scene whr he connects the dots)....hes shocked beyond belief!
That time when he shakes Geet, everyone started commenting he doubted her and shouldnt have done that.
But he had to! It was his younger brother! He was ready to tear that monster apart , but the monster had not had a face, not in his wildest imagination had he the face of his younger brother.
---- Hes still absorbing that when Dev comes and confesses before him. He does that in one breath and I can understand that too. You can't expect from him to go into a well articulated guilt speech.
The emotional turmoil he was in and the nature of the crime he had committed compounded by the fact that Maan now loved Geet like his own life-- the only thing Dev could do was come out and just say that geet was right.(like wen Geet had come out straight away with 'I m pregnant').
There's no decorating the truth there.
--- Maan already knew Geet was speaking the truth, and then Dev comes right then . Hes still in shock and tries to control his state of extreme emotion by leaving. For once, Dev does the right thing, taking the bull by the horns , he stops Maan and faces him with his wrath right there.
There couldnt be any more delay. Had Maan left and thought about it, He would have had some smidgen of guilt.
Dev in that regard was brilliant. Till the end , he strove to bear the complete burden of his guilt, refusing to let Maan feel responsible in any way.
---- Maan's pent up shock and emotion came out when he hit Dev. Thats what got him in a somewhat rational state of mind. His violence rid him of shock. It helped him see clearly. Maan is a man of principles. And what Dev had done was sinister. The violence Maan exhibited was what he could do as a brother.
what he had a right to do as a brother.
---- At that stage , when Dev is already guilty, you wouldnt want maan to go into a lecture. Hell , that sequence didnt require too many words. Once Maan got his control, he was back to himself, he called the police. He has always been a man of action and why should he dilly-dally?!
The one who required a lecture was NT and she was suitably chastised by Geet.
Now,
The other great thing about the CV's is that they dont spoon feed. I am sooo thankful for that!
-- You dont need an explicit scene to show daadi being told everything! c'mon, that would be melodramatic and would take away from the grimness of the situation!
---- You dont need for Maan to say every damn thing he felt , to Dev, Geet , it was all in the eyes!
Damn...that scene where he signs as the witness...it gave me goosebumps. That scene said soo much more than words could have.
---- You dont need Daadi, to be melodramatic either. Shes of royal blood, an elegant woman.
Her pain was evident in her eyes, in how she faints but says nothing. I loved that they didnt show Dev Dadi convo. None was needed. I loved how her grace was maintained , by not giving her any dialogue.
---- It was amazing how they showed no family drama or dialogbaazi in front of the police either. It would have been so tacky and taken away completely from the reserve of the Khurana family.
----- The scene where Daadi, looks at geet, then Maan does, and geet runs off!! another amazing scene. The FB she has of what happened, those too were without dialogues..just music(and what music!).....
All in all....I applaud the CVs for a job brilliantly done! I love their subtlety, the way they handle complex emotions , their complex well defined characters and brilliantly shot sequences!!
I believe that any sort of conversation, or questions from Maan to Dev can only come later. Maybe they could show him visit in jail, when he does try to get to know his brother. To know HOW he could stoop to that level.
Dev would already be serving his punishment, and it would be actually nice to see Maan -Dev relationship start anew.
Sorry guys, couldnt hold back...long post I KNow. Do tell what you think.😛
