She was leaving. Leaving him for good; to get away from him, from the hurt he had inflicted, from the promises and the trust he had broken; leaving him behind to become a part of her painful past, a part of her memories that she would rather forget.
It had always been him who had stopped her from speaking, from voicing her feelings but this time her pain had been too great to listen, to hear him out and rightly so – he had lost the right to be heard when he had uttered those fateful words to her.
Only after she had walked out of the conference room, had his mind recovered enough to realize what he had done; making him furious with himself, berating himself for not listening to her, overlooking her grief while wallowing in his hurt, so blind to all else that he had not realized what she had gone through to get here – to tell him all that she had, to reopen her wounds, so that he may find some healing.
In his arrogance he had thought that he was her savior, the one who was there to protect her, break her falls - little realizing that it was she who had been trying to protect him - from herself no less.
After what she had been through, she had the right to grab happiness with both hands and yet, when the time had come, she had chosen to sacrifice that smidgen of hope so that he may be unburdened.
It had dazed him to know that she had accepted another man into her heart- her words crushing him, for- Maan had wanted to be the one who ruled her heart, to be the one she loved. His hurt had then spilled out in words that never should have been spoken, giving her the worst wound of all – rejection.
He knew he had hurt her more than all the others because she had counted on him, his words, his promises to stand by her and at the first opportunity he had withdrawn and let her fall; he had himself pushed her into a chasm of despair.
He had haughtily let her know that he would stay with her because she needed him and could not function without him; but now, it was he who could not function, could not survive - running around berserk, a distraught man who had lost his heart, his mind, his sanity.
He had told her that she had lost the right to make the decisions in their relationship – but had she really? For - now it would be her decision whether to accept Maan - his apology, his love, his faith in her. To accept him and be his forever.
It was now upto him to salvage it all, to go after her; grovel if need be – for, she was his only ray of hope in the bleakness that loomed ahead. He had broken something so precious he wondered if he would ever get it back – her faith in him, in his words, her trust in him. He had broken every promise he had made to her – to stand by her, to stop her tears, to protect her from every harm that came her way – for he had been unable to protect her from himself, from the hurt he had given her, the pain he had caused all because of his words – "sirf meri ho".
