Sin, take it like this, by mistake he spoke his thoughts out loud. He should have just said it in his mind and consoled her, for her sake, for her pain sake, for all that she went through. But he said it out loud and only later realized the impact of it. Though I feel his sentence, his thinking process, was totally normal, but he did the mistake at that moment of saying it out loud. He could have cleared his thoughts later on with Geet, once she calmed down. At that moment she needed him, she needed his hug.
