What is the use of moralising over Geet's baby, Arwen? It's there and that's to be taken care of .........
Is Geet under 18? If she is then it could be considered as rape..... the law wants to protect the young girl/child. But she has got married in front of the whole village and in their eyes the marriage is legal . It was fraudulant since it was an obvious intention of duping the whole family. Again it (second marriage) will be called illegal only if the first wife calls in the police / court. However I think any progeny born out of such an unholy matrimony could be considered as legal heirs to the father's fortunes if fought out in court or otherwise.
Many of the laws made in 1947-48 are today frowned upon because they seem obsolete. But rural India is different. Marriages of such kind are often done in order to get children. Today people with such ideas would be considered as socially backward.
In the end its just a story, so why not see what the stupid CVs will finally dish out?

@skep - how was the Teacher's Day function in your school? Did you have a good time?

When are you updating Part 2 of your story?

Oh Teacher's day was fun. An ordinary day turned memorable because of the small little things the kids did for us.
I remember some years ago .................... there was this child who brought a small gift for me. Do you want me to tell you about it? Then you will have to wait for five minutes till I write it out ............

If you visit the GEET page on facebook you will say that frenzy is a mild word. Someone from the producation house puts up teasers as bait and then things go on a roll.

Today is a holiday here in USA - Labor Day - so maybe people are out and about. Don't know if they will be online.

Some of the children who come to us are very poor. Naturally we dont expect any presents or flowers from them. Often those ten rupees the mother will spend on this trivial thing would mean the child going without his daily fare of bananas or biscuits. This would absolutely horrify us (teachers). But some of our senior teachers say how will you teach what sacrifice is? Now that too is a point but you dont want a child to sacrifice do you? Anyway there are two sides to a coin.
So one such poor little thing came to me. From his pocket he removed a small crushed paper. He forwarded it to me.
"What is it?" I asked.
"Open it." He gestured totally excited. I realised how important it was for him.
I opened it and there was a childish drawing of a red flower.
"Wow" I bulged my eyes in admiration and my little Kanha started jumping.
"Smell it!" he bade me. I grimaced inwardly but showed him my readiness. It distinctly smelt of attar.
"Wow" I said. "Thank you so much!"
His mother stood at the door.
"Teacher, I told him I shall buy a rose, but he insisted he wanted to draw one for you. Then so that he wouldn't lose it, he crushed it in his hand and went to sleep holding it.. In the morning he said he wanted the flower to smell sweet. So he took Grandpa's attar and put it on the picture. Kitna pagal hai mera beta." We both laughed. She gave him a chocolate to give me. When he gave it to me, I asked him to eat it instead. He unwrapped the paper, and offered it to me. I took a piece and shoved the rest of the bar into his mouth.
If children found joy in such small things, why couldn't I? That was a lesson for me. I kept the piece of paper in my book for many years. Believe me, I can still get its fragrance today..........
I could go on and on ........... There are so many things in life which we don't even see, so many things that touch us but we don't even feel ......
yet there is that something which affects you and gives you lessons of a lifetime.
