Tum, Main aur Woh

Complete Story

"Dhruv! Come on, clean up your toys, it's time for bed now beta" Geet smiled, as she kneeled down on the floor and helped her young four year old son put all his toys away in a basket.

"Mama. Five more minutes. Pweasee" the little boy pleaded, a small pout on his face. And Geet couldn't refuse her son. After all, he was all she had now.

"Only five more minutes, and then we have to sleep, ok? Don't you want to go to the beach tomorrow?" she smiled, and that was enough for her son to start cleaning up almost immediately. And twenty minutes later, both the mother and the son were carefully tucked into bed, away in a small town in South India where they had been living for so long.

She closed her eyes and sleep came to her immediately, unlike in the past, when she would dwell on all the unfortunate events in her life, flashes of various nightmares flashing before her everytime she closed her eyes. Thoughts and memories which plagued her every night, which never allowed her to sleep in peace. But Dhruv. Dhruv was her savior, the one person who made her life worth living once again. And she welcomed him and the new life with open arms, a stronger woman after all the misgivings. One who was ready to face the world.

++++

"Mama..Zoo..." were the two words she heard the next morning, as she felt her son shaking her, trying to wake her up. "Dhruvvv. It's only 7:30 am, go back to sleep" whined Geet, pulling the blankets over her head and drawing her son close to her, trying to get him to sleep once again. But the child was adamant. And Geet had to get up.

And about two hours later, the two headed off to the beach, Geet in a nice bluish salwar, while the little Dhruv was dressed in his shorts and a tshirt, sunglasses on his head. He sure did look like a hero. And the two had fun for the rest of the day, playing in the water, making sand castles, digging each other up in the sand. And it was finally 5 o'clock before Geet decided that the two should head home, but as luck would have it, Dhruv saw a balloon vendor and insisted on getting a balloon. Sighing, Geet gave in to her son, who was busy choosing the specific color and shape of the balloon he wanted. When suddenly, she heard someone call out her name.

"Geet? Geet is that really you?"

And she turned around immediately, and the next thing she knew, she was facing her former boss, the man whom she had run away from four years ago. Dressed in a pair of shorts, a white t-shirt, showing off his abs, there, standing in front of her was The MSK. The Maan Singh Khurana.

At that moment, Geet felt like she could die a thousand deaths. Not knowing what to say or how to react, she just stood there, completely forgetting everything else around her, including her own son.

"Geet? Where have you been all these years? You ran away!" exclaimed Maan, as he walked up to her, and held her by the shoulders, gazing into her eyes intensely, his eyes demanding answers. And she, she just stared at him in shock, her eyes slightly fearful, slightly hesitant, and just overall shocked. South India. This was the last place she had expected to see anyone she knew.

"Mama! Look at my balloon!" that tiny voice snapped both of them out of their thoughts, and they moved away from each other quickly.

Maan looked at the young boy, four years old, and knew he reminded him of someone, but just who he didn't know. And he was calling Geet Mama? He looked over at Geet, a questioning look in his eyes, his one eyebrow raised, and his eyes demanding answers. "Geet. We need to talk."

Shuddering, she picked up her small boy in her arms, and looked up slowly at the man in front of her. "Yes. I'm willing to give you answers."

His immediate response was "Let's go. I want to know now. Chalein?"

And she nodded meekly, not knowing what else to say and slowly followed him to his car.

++++

Maan entered the tiny apartment that was just a ten minute drive from the beach. Although it was tiny, it had a homely feeling, one that had been missing from his own house back in Mumbai. Instantly, he felt at ease in the place, as he heard Geet scolding the little boy, Dhruv, to take off his shoes before he entered the house, or as he saw the pictures of Geet with her little son, the day he was born, the two of them at the hospital, just memories that seemed to have strengthened their relationship.

"Dhruv beta, Mama is going to talk to the Uncle now, so why don't you go play with your toys?" asked Geet, when she saw Maan busy looking her house up and down.

And that brought Maan out of his daze, and back to the matter at hand.

He sat down in one of the sofas, and Geet sat down across from him. And all he said was, "Geet. I want answers. Answers as to why you left, what happened, and the boy. The boy's father" said Maan seriously, his voice low, and serious, as he crossed his right leg over his left one, and folded his arms in front of his chest, leaning back into the sofa, and looked at her expectantly. Waiting for her answer.

And that instant. That instant, Geet knew that the past she had been running away from for so long, the past she had tried to disconnect from herself, pretend it never existed, had caught up with her. And now she had to face the past and her present at the same time.

**********

Maan tapped his foot on the hardwood floor impatiently, disturbing the tense silence that had filled the room. "Any day now...I have other things to do too you see" he sighed. Apparently, he hadn't changed at all. Still the same hot headed, impatient, annoying, khadoos perfectionist as she had known him to be four years ago.

Finally mustering up all her courage, Geet raised her eyes to look into his deep penetrative ones, eyes that were seeking answers, and she started from the beginning.

Flashback:

She had gotten married to an NRI on her family's insistence. And everything went straight downhill from there. She had thought that he loved her, and she herself thought that she loved him, but alas, that wasn't how anything worked out. He had left her soon after the wedding, well supposed wedding, considering it was not legal nor was it correct as per traditions.

And Geet was devastated. Only to find out later that she was pregnant with his child.

Her family wanted her to abort, but she refused and ran away to Mumbai where she worked for MSK, a khadoos with whom she had her share of problems, and then had gotten engaged to after the two fell in love.

End Flashback:

"Wait, you were pregnant when we were engaged and you were working for me?!" Maan questioned, fury building up in his eyes.

But alas, luck was not on her side now either.

"I..." she began, trying to put together a coherent string of words, but MSK was getting angry.

"You were PREGNANT? And decided NOT to tell me? Even AFTER we got engaged? What kind of a woman are you? How did you just take the decision to not tell your fiance that you were already pregnant with some other man's baby? When was I going to find out? When you went into labor in the middle of the office? Or would you have just secretly had the baby and just shoved it in my face? Really Geet? This is the last thing I expected from you, of all people." Maan was pacing the room by now, his hand flailing wildly as he continued his rant, while Geet sat in the sofa, toying with her dupatta.

He stopped, "And how long are you planning on sitting like a statue?" he questioned, rolling his eyes as he stood in front of her, arms crossed, towering over her with his presence.

"Are you not planning on telling me the actual story?"

Geet blinked, and stood up, crossing her own arms across her chest, as she looked at him fearlessly. "And when were you planning on telling me the truth? Your master plan? Cheating a family? Cheating a girl? I trusted you Maan. I thought you were different from the other men in my life. I thought I knew you. But I was wrong. You're just like everyone else. A betrayer. A cheat. And I fell into your trap so easily. " She glared at him, pushing him aside with her hands and making her way to the window on the other side of the room.

He held her wrist.

He pulled her back.

And he turned her around so she was in his arms. His one hand automatically grasping her around the waist.

"I betrayed you? I BETRAYED you? Stop throwing false accusations on me Geet. Lie all you want, all you want, but don't you DARE point a finger at me. I loved you, damnit!" he growled, his voice low, filled with anger, with fury.

"Maan, I saw you and Dev. I know that you both were in on this together. You're his brother for heaven's sake! Of course you would support him. Of course you were in on everything. I hate you Maan Singh Khurana. I really hate you, even more than I hate Dev. And you know why? Because I trusted you damnit! I trusted you and you broke my trust!" she yelled, her voice starting off quietly and getting louder with each and every single word that escaped her mouth.

"Dev? What does Dev have to do with anything?" Maan questioned suddenly, as his face contorted into confusion.

"Mama, are you ok?" They heard a tiny voice from behind them and jumped away from each other. Dev stood there, a toy in his hand, his eyes wide with fear. "Mama mad?"

Geet rushed over to her son, and pulled him in her arms. "Mad? Dhruv, Mama's not mad. Mama was just talking to this uncle." she smiled at him, placing a soft kiss on his forehead and gently rubbing his back to calm him down. She turned around to shoot a glare at Maan, who just stood there looking as confused as ever.

Dev? What does Dev have to do with anything? I only saw him once in the past five years. Dev?

A voice broke him out of his thoughts, as he looked up to see Geet standing before him, her son in her arms, "Maan. I have to take care of Dhruv now. If you could leave..." trailed off.

And so he did

Geet went to sleep that night, an overwhelming day behind her. Even though she had physically been present the entire time when playing with Dhruv, her mind had constantly been wandering. Wandering back to Maan's shocked expression when she had mentioned Dev's and his betrayal, scheming, plotting, their plan to ruin her life and run with her money.

She remembered that day quite clearly.

Flashback:

Geet had been over the moon the past few weeks, ever since her official engagement to Maan, but she knew that she would have to tell him about the pregnancy before the wedding, that would be utter betrayal otherwise. But whenever she started, Maan would always tell her he did not want to discuss her past. She was with him now, and that was all that mattered to him, and then dragged her into their own little world of romance. Of course, she lost all her sense of coherency and logical thinking and drowned in his eyes, his love for her. Pssht, his love, she thought now. All fake.

So that day, she had set out determined to tell him, and just as she got to his office, she heard Maan laughing with someone, that too quite loudly, and her curiosity grew. I mean, this was the MSK, who barely had time for anything or anyone else. Who else was he possibly this comfortable with? And so she decided she would peek into the room, slowly opening the door just a bit to be met with the shock of a lifetime.

That was DEV! Dev, the man she had been married off to! The father of her child! What the hell was he doing there?

"Bhai! I was successful! I'm so happy I accomplished what I set out to accomplish!" Dev yelled, as Maan hugged him, a wide grin on his face.

WOOOAAAH. Hold on. Pause right there. BHAI?! What in the name of heaven was going on? And what had he been successful in? Could it be...? No! Not at all! Maan would never allow for such a thing to happen. He would never approve.

She listened in once again.

Maan responded "I knew Naintara would be of some use to this idea. Didn't I tell you? When the two of you work together, you can accomplish big things, and make some money for yourself, without having to depend on others all the time. But I'm really happy for you Dev. Really, really happy for you."

Geet froze. Dev and Naintara had worked in bringing her down, and Maan had been the accomplice.

And everything made sense in her mind, so without a further thought, she left, ran from the place immediately, packing her bags, and getting on a train to run away.

Run away once again.

From those whom she was betrayed by.

By those she had thought loved her.

For herself.

For her baby.

********

Taking a deep breath, Geet looked over at her son as he huddled closer to her, clutching her arm tighter around himself and she patted his back, mumbling some soothing words.

Well, at least Maan had left when she told him to. But would he be back? No, he seemed too angry with her, and when he's angry he just grows to hate the person. She was safe. She wouldn't have to deal with him again.

And so she went off to sleep, thinking about her otherwise fun day at the beach with her son, her little Dhruv.

**********

Meanwhile, Maan was resting in his hotel room, thinking about everything that Geet had said to him earlier that day. She had mentioned Dev, but he was in Canada for the past 5 years and just came down to Mumbai to visit Maan that one time right after Geet and Maan got engaged to see his new bhabhi.

So how did Geet know Dev? So he did the most logical thing that came to his mind. He called up Dev and told him to get on a flight immediately. They had some things to sort out.

There would be no way Geet would walk around thinking that she betrayed him. He had to talk to her again.

And he would sort this mess out

Sunday mornings were usually a day to sleep in for Geet and Dhruv, but unfortunately today wasn't going to work out peacefully. A knock on the door at 8 AM had startled her and she literally jumped out of bed and ran to the door, wondering who it could possibly be so early in the morning.

As she opened the door sleepily, she was shocked to see Maan standing in front of her, and next to him was...Dev?

Quickly pulling her robe tightly around herself, she rubbed her eyes to see the two men that had been in her life standing right there, right in front of her. While Maan was standing there, his arms crossed across his chest, a cold look on his face, Dev was more hunched, looking a tad bit more frightened, more like he that was the last place he wanted to be that morning.

And Geet was ready to shut the door in their faces.

Those two lying, cunning, cheating bas***ds. She hated their guts.

But before she could completely slam the door, a foot came in between, "Geet, don't you dare close this door. The three of us are going to talk, and you will then explain to me what the hell you were talking about, and why you left Delhi four years ago without leaving a single trace behind." And he shoved the door open with one push, making his way inside and angrily seating himself on the sofa, with Dev silently, but swiftly, following his brother inside.

And she merely followed them. What else could she possible do in this situation? It's not like she could just stand in the doorway and pray that they would leave quickly.

Geet just took in the sight before her, her thoughts completely going haywire as she realized that both Maan and Dev Singh Khurana were both sitting in her living room. Both men, both brothers, who had set out to ruin her, to completely betray her, make a mockery of her life and destroy it completely, and they had both succeeded. Taking a deep breath, she closed her eyes, hoping beyond hope that the tears that were welling up wouldn't just spill out of her eyes.

"Geet?" Maan called out impatiently, no angrily, as he grabbed hold of her hand and pulled her down onto the seat next to him. "Geet explain what the hell is going on. Why did you mention Dev yesterday? WHY GEET?!" he thundered, when Geet just remained mum.

"I...what do you want Maan? Why are you here with Dev? I thought I made it perfectly clear that I wanted nothing to do with you, with either of you, when I left 4 years ago. I'm happy in my own life, content, satisfied, and I don't either of you to come back and ruin everything like you've done in the past" she retorted calmly, pulling herself away from Maan's grasp and getting up to stand near the window.

"Just tell me how I betrayed you, why you think we cheated you, and we'll leave. It's as simple as that" Maan responded just as calmly, refusing to let his anxiety show. He wanted Geet back, he wanted the love of his life back with him, and that's why he needed to clear the obvious misconceptions she had about him.

"I'll explain" came the meek, trembling voice, little more than a whisper.

Geet immediately shot a glance at Dev, to see that he still hadn't looked up, he was still sitting there, his hands tightly clasped in is hands as he slowly closed his eyes. Maan was surprised to hear his brother speak up, but stood up, towering over Dev as he stood right in front of him, his hands crossed over his chest as he waited for the explanation.

And that's what Dev did, explained the entire past. How the business plan that him and Naintara had made completely failed, and rather than just going and telling Maan, they chose to go cheat a young girl, pretending to marry her to get all her property, money everything, and show Maan what a success of their own lives they had made.

And Geet? She weeped silent tears as she heard her own story being told, her own sad story of the tragedy that was her life.

***

Needless to say, after hearing the truth from the horse's mouth, there was nothing more to think through. Dev had made a mistake, and he had accepted it, shocking both Geet and Maan. And although Maan had wanted to call the police and send him to jail, Geet had felt it was enough that Dev had realized he had fathered a son but would never be able to actually see him, ever actually be a father to him. And he had been sent away, firmly ordered to never come to Delhi and the Khurana Mansion ever again if he wanted his life to be spared. Maan refused to forgive him for cheating Geet, for being the reason that Geet had even left him four years earlier.

Geet just threw herself into Maan's arms upon realizing that he was at no fault, crying as she apologized to him for not trusting him. And Maan, well he was just glad that Geet was his again.

"You have no idea how much I missed you love" he whispered into her hair, as he hugged her tighter to himself. "Don't you ever leave me like that again. I don't think I would be able to survive this time around"

Geet pulled away from him slowly, reaching out to cup his face in her hands as she pressed her lips against his, reassuring him in her own way of how much she loved him.

"Mama?" a little voice interrupted their embrace as a bleary eyed Dhruv stood before them, rubbing his tiny eyes as he stared at his mother confused.

***

Two Years Later'

Everything had returned to normal'well, semi-normal. Geet and Dhruv had gone back to Delhi with Maan, and were welcomed back with open arms by Dadi, who was content to see that Maan was his old self once again, the happiness that had vanished when Geet had left his life had returned. And Dhruv? He was simply the icing on the cake.

The couple had gotten married once again in a simple ceremony, with the only attendees being Dadi, Dhruv, Pinky, Adi, Annie and Arjun. Of course, Dev and Naintara were sent an invitation too, only to warn them not to show up, or even be in the vicinity. Dadi was the only one that kept in touch with Dev, because she still loved her grandson and Geet had put her foot down when Maan wanted to tell Dadi the truth about everything.

Coming back to Maan and Geet though, well, what is there to say?

"Maan!" Geet yelled, shaking him in an effort to wake him up. "Uff this man's worse than Kumbhkarn!" she muttered to herself, completely annoyed as she took the glass of water sitting on the bedside table and poured it over his head.

A startled Maan jumped out of bed, "Geet! What the hell was that?!" he questioned annoyed, running his hands through his wet hair as he shot a glare at his wife, who was just standing by the side of the bed with a smirk on her face.

"Tsk tsk. Language Mr. Khurana" she shook her head disapprovingly, as she put a finger over her lips and patted her rounded stomach with the other hand.

A small smile appeared on his face as he leaned over to drop a kiss on her belly, "Hi there baby. Only a few more weeks till I get to see you" he whispered softly.

"And I get to see you!" an excited voice jumped into the picture, and Maan laughed as he picked up his son and threw him into the air.

Yup, life was good for them now.

Hi Everyone! :)
