Part 23- Truth always hurts!!!

"bas geet, aur kuch mat kehna."

The tension in his voice alarmed Geet and she looked at him for the first time during their entire conversation. He took both her hands and kissed them. She was flabbergasted but did not feel like stopping him. She knew she could trust him and he would never cross his limits. And that was exactly why she confessed to him. He has a right to know about her past she felt. After all he was related to her past in hoshiarpur. He had seen her fight against her family, fight against the world and fight for herself.

He slowly said, "itna dard hai tumhe. Phir bhi tum muskuraate ho? Maine tumhe daanta, tevar dikhaya, sunaya, insult kiya, gussa kiya phir bhi tumne sab seh li? kadam kadam par tumhe challenge kiya aur kadam kadam par tumhe pareshaan kiya. Kyun geet? Isisliye kyunki maine tumhe bachaya aur tumhe job diya?"

"nahi sir. Maine sab isiliye seh li kyunki mujhme sab sehne ki himmat thi. aur woh himmat aapne diya."

"tumhe ek baar bhi nahi laga ki tumhe yeh sab mujhe pehle hi data dena chahiye?"

"aisi baat nahi hai sir. Bas hamare beech mein woh topic kabhi nahi aaya. Aur waise bhi main aapko bahut pareshaan karti hoon aur yeh sab keh ke main aapko pareshaan nahi karna chahti thi."

"pareshaan geet? Tumne yeh kaise soch liya?"

"aur main yeh bhi sochti thi ki agar sab ko pata chala ki main pregnant hoon tuo…." Maan looked at her seriously.

"geet! So, I was just a boss to you and just like the others to you? No, difference between me and others in the office is it? dekha jaye tuo tumhare nazron mein mujh mein aur sasha mein koi farak nahi hai, ya mujh mein aur pinky, adi mein koi farak nahi hai?"

"sir, nahi"

"geet tumhari yeh baat ne mujhe tumhari sach se zyaada dard diya" he said getting up. Geet understood he was hurt. She got out of the car and went towards him. She held his arm tightly. Maan looked at her carefully. He wanted to tell her to move away because she belonged to someone else but held back his words. He thought to himself, he would not be doing right if he behaved that way because she did not know what he felt for her. So, he cannot pressurize her or hurt her for the simple reason that he loved her, but she was married to someone else.

"sir, agar aap dusro ki tarah hote tuo main yeh saare baate aapko kabhi nahi bolti. Agar aap ke liye mujhe koi izzat na hoti, tuo main aapke izzat ke liye sasha ma'am ke saath ladh kar kaam nahi karti, agar aap pe vishwas nahi hoti tuo main raat ke char baje aapke saath akele nahi rehti."

Maan opened his mouth to say something but geet stopped him. "sir, mujhe pehle hi batani chahiye thi lekin nahi bata paayi. Kyunki mujhe nafrat hai apni beeti baato ko yaad karna."

He felt like telling her that he loved her and he would not do anything that would wound her. But, her truth did shock him. Today, he felt he was seeing a new geet standing in front of him. This geet was different from the geet he had always known, different from the geet he had fallen in love with! She was close to him, yet there was a lot of distance between them. Can the distance created due to her past be bridged, was a question that pestered his mind now?

Geet looked at him. He was not looking at her. He was thinking about himself and about her-because to him their lives were intertwined and interdependent now. To her, it could be different, but to him, living without her or removing her from his life was like killing himself. She changed him for the better and there was no way he would return to his old ways.

But the bitter truth that she was pregnant kept coming back to his mind, her words kept ringing in his ears. He could not understand what he should do now. Geet was standing so close to him. His heart and his mind were speaking conflicting emotions. His mind was telling him to go away from her but his heart was telling him to embrace her-she needed one right now!

He simply stopped thinking and told geet, "tumhe aaram ki zaroorat hai. Go home geet."

"nahi sir, main theek hoon aur main aapke saath…"

"geet please. Tumhe aaram ki zaroorat hai. Mujhe bhi ghar jaana chahiye."

"sir, aap theek tuo hai? "

"haan geet mujhe kya hoga?"

"mujhe laga ki mere baate sun ne ke baad aapke mood kuch badal gaye."

"tum aurtein kabhi bhi apne dimaag ka isthamaal nahi karte kya? Ab tumne itni badi baad kahi tuo, zahir is baath hai ki main thoda shocked hoon."

She started smiling listening to his words. He was normal atleast he pretended to be. She moved away and stood in front of him and looked at him. Maan felt uneasy with her looks and smiles.

"geet, maine koi joke nahi maara. Jisse tumhe itni hassi aa rahi hai."

"maan, yahi baat hai aap mein jo dusron se alag hai. Main jab bhi rohti hoon, aap mujhe apni baton se hasa dete hai. Aur aapka gussa tuo aap se bhi pyaara hai. Aapki yahi temper na mujhe bachata hai aur hasata hai."

Maan felt like staring at her forever. He wished he could undo everything that went wrong in her life. But, if everything was right for her then why would she step into his life? She would probably be with the other man happily now and he would have been the same old Maan Singh Khurana with no emotions, sentiments and love!

"geet ab tum jaoge ya nahi?"

"theek hai chalti hoon. Aap keh rahe hai isiliye."

He felt like holding her tight in his arms for some reason. He never feared losing anything in his life but for the first time when she was walking away he felt he was losing something. Why did he think she was walking away from him forever? Why did he feel she can never be his and his alone?
